Yarygin thread

Snyder holds off a game Megamedov, 4-1, repeats as Yarygin champ.

Particularly ridiculous lunger taken by the Russian with a minute left, as doctors pretended there was something wrong with his right temple.

Wow. I expected to check the thread this morning and see that 1-2 people stayed up and provided updates only to see half the board stayed up late. I missed the party! Thanks guys for taking one for the team and sacrificing your sleep and providing updates!

And congrats to Taylor!! :)

Would using that arm leverage (in the semis) be considered 'potentially dangerous' in college and stopped?
Potentially dangerous calls in HS and college are pretty subjective but I could see that being stopped. Those calls often depend on whether the guy goes over, and DT's guy did so maybe not.

I was extremely flexible in HS and was able to get matches stopped all the time because refs thought my arms were being ripped off as I just held my base.

Thanks... I think I hear refs telling wreslters to 'keep it tight' or something to that effect not allowing the arm to get too far off the small of the back. But not sure if DT was using the same hold or whatever either (I am a fan but never wrestled so don't know the nuances of the sport).

When I'm near the mat these days I often hear refs warn "keep it legal" when it looks like a guy might run an arm.

USA wrestling really repesented well....5 medals? Gwiz & hulk bronze, Dake silver, DT and Snyder gold. I feel I am missing one or so. Did Heflin take bronze? ramos?

If USA wants more Gold at the Olympics, the OC needs to keep a towel on the mat during a Cox match and keep Dake in another weigh class

The reality is this. DT takes the entire world field @86 but cannot best KD. You cannot say the same for KD or JC. Both have proven to beat DT but cannot match the field.

I wish there was a way to influence the IOC to just add all the UWW weights. Oh, wait.... What's the slush fund up to?

Tamyra Stock took gold in Women's 68 kg becoming only the second USA wrestler to win two golds at Yarygin

So happy for DT! It's been a somewhat rough road the last couple years - great to see him at the top of the podium at such a prestigious tournament.

It's such a weird situation, and I think if David was given Cox's bracket at last year's worlds, he would've been in the final against Yazdanicharati (whether he wins is another question) with much less drama I would imagine. Cox's world championships performance still befuddles me.

Great Fricken job by Taylor to get the victory.

Had a bunch of quality shots and takedown attempts denied. kept pushing, and broke the cuban eventually. wins 4-4.

Denied as in not awarded correctly by the refs or denied as in fended off by the Cuban?

Hopefully Team USA doesn't have to worry about that until 2020. JB (74), Dake (79), DT (86), Cox (92) looks stupid good for 2018-19.
