Love me some Black and Tan or Chetty Field Ale... Like their Octoberfest as well... Before any beer snobs chime in saying Yuengling is pure swill etc... I enjoy it and am not comparing to high end beers which I enjoy as well. Yuengling stands on it's own and has a great niche market. Sam Koch has talked about how he admires Dick Yuengling so much in how he has positioned Yuengling in between high end micro brew beers and low end bud/miller etc....

Not as bad as some say, but nhot as good as some say either. Lager does not agree with me. I'd rather an Octoberfest or black and tan by them.

I used to like Yuengling. It really complimented my ramen noodles back in college when I was poor, and shared a ~12' x ~20' dorm room with someone.

Go back a live once again. You only live twice once when you are born and once just before you die. In between, drink Yuengling!

If I want to reminisce, I think I'd rather drink a good beer with some ramen noodles.

Fosters. You couldn't give Yuengling away at Penn State in the 70s. Marketing ploy, and it was bought by the masses.

Funny you say this.
While a Senior in the last 90s, we had an exchange student from Australia on our team.
His statement regarding the two beers:
- In Australia, there are 2 old guys sitting at the end of the bar drinking Fosters. That's about it.
- Yuengling is the best "standard piss" out there.

For his return trip, he bought a case of Lager and wrapped each bottle in an article of clothing to pack in his suitcase. He was ecstatic that only 2 broke during the trip.

At Abington , that 12 X 20 room cost $500,000 to build 2 years ago. That and some $100/case brew ought to satisfy your tasteo_O. I don't always drink Yeungling, but I had 2 last night, yummy

Drink the Porter guys. Why ruin the porter by mixing it with premium in the black & tan? I’m still waiting for Porter in cans. The Pilsner is also a good product.

Ain’t nothing wrong with a Yuengling. It is of course not the best beer in the world but it doesn’t try to be. Just about the best value on the market regarding the quality to price ratio.

I recall getting barrels of Rolling Rock back in college and sucking it down like it was mother's milk. Many years later I had a chance to drink one at a party and could not believe how bad it was. Let's just say my palate has changed over the years.

Oh we had plenty of that too. RR was the cheap party beer, Yuengling was the "good" beer. Fortunately youth is a disease from which we all recover.

I wasn't at Abington 2 years ago, I went to main campus a long time ago. I really don't understand the point of your post.

But... Assuming you are talking 12 ounce bottles, $100 a case sounds mighty cheap. I have single bottles that cost that much (retail, 10 times that on the secondary market), not including travel costs.

So you used the beer for the noodles instead of water?

Exactly!

I like beer that tastes like beer, so I tend to prefer small breweries. But Yuengling is real beer, much, much better than the swill that the big breweries make.

Exactly... I think that is lost on some here. Yuengling never claims or does anyone here say Yuengling is a micro brew. They have a great niche... they are better than Bud/Miller/etc... but do not look to compete with the top end quality hand crafted micro brews. It's a nice beer for a nice price.

In 1969, we were having a kegger at a private house. One of my fraternity brothers, who was at least half lit, was standing next to the keg announced, “Ying-Yang may not be the best beer but, as long as it’s cold, it’s good!” We all agreed.

Yuengling > Rolling Rock
Rolling Rock was good when it was independent and made in Latrobe. Then they were bought out by Labatt, which in turn was bought out by Anhauser-Busch, which was in turn bought out be InBev. AB closed the Latrobe brewery and started making something they called Rolling Rock in the big Bud factory in NJ. That shit was never real Rolling Rock- that died when the real brewery in Latrobe died.

So you guys who liked it in college and were disappointed years later- you remember a beer that has been gone for a fairly long time now

+100. It was still ok under Labatt but not as good, especially after they started their National marketing. Once AB and InBev got their hands on it sucked.
For a while they were using the old RR plant to make the Guiness Blonde but they since moved and started a big
operation here in Balto. I don't know if the Latrobe RR brewery is making anything right now or not. I had heard a rumor that someone else was going to buy it but I've never heard anything since then.

Agreed that the RR brewed these days is bad, and the stuff brewed in Latrobe was good for a cheap college beer. Granted the beer scale goes like this: Bad >> OK >> Good >> Average >> Above Average >> Great >> Fantastic >> Amazing >> Unbelievable >> Incredible >> Ludicrous

Have you been to the Guinness in Baltimore yet... They did a hell of a job with it. I was surprised how nice it was.

Natty Boh, Pabst, Schaefer, Iron City say Hi.;)
Natty and pbr went down far easier. Have not tried iron city or Schaefer. Ying light was nauseating. Not sure I’ve described another beer with that word.

No I haven't been yet but plan to, friends that have gone say its very, very impressive.
And I know no one asked but I'll just say it...
I put anything by Russian River Brewing into the amazing category and the Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig and Damanation ale in the Ludicrously good category.:)
