Thoughts after rewatching Minny

Allar is averaging 9.6 yards per completion. This is in the top ten of all the top teams in college football.
That is not completely accurate. The 9.6 number represents yards per attempt, which is different than yards per coompletion. Yards per attempt favors QBs with higher completion percentages because a QB gets zero yards for an incomplete pass which brings down average per attempt for QB's who throw lower percentage passes. When you go with yards per completion, PSU is 32nd.

PSA: PSU vs Minnesota replay

I thoroughly enjoyed the results of the play.

I only like the play call if we have identified a weakness in what our opponent is doing and felt that it was a vulnerability that gave us a high probability of success.

If we were just attempting to do it randomly in hope of catching them off guard, I would not be for trying it at that that juncture of the game. It appears that the special teams' 'QB' and walk on Dom did an admirable job in calling and executing the play.

The special teams were in need of redemption, and they provided it with that play. ST needs to fix their problems. It's too late in the year to be having those type of blocking assignment and punting breakdowns.
The block earlier in the game probably helped, because at least one Gopher was probably not gap sound trying to make another splash play.

Donkoh and Ford out for the season

Part of why these penalties need to be called is bc of injuries, case and point. The fact that these blatant calls are not being made incentivizes these kids to keep holding. It’s getting out of control if you ask me.
Some degree of holding occurs along the line of scrimmage during every play. With that in mind it is up to the officials to make sure that the holding does not become too egregious. And that is where the majority of B1G officials are deficient.

In order to properly evaluate the officiating, it would be nice if each official had their own Google Glasses type cam that would provide us with the perspective of what the official actually saw.

Having done some IM / summer league basketball officiating your positioning is important. You need to maximize your ability to see while minimizing your court presence from interfering with the game. You can't call what you can't or didn't see .....

I'm sure it's just a coincidence Central Michigan University is losing its head coach now.

4-7 (2-5) in year 6--three straight losing seasons
Could be about the investigation--could be because he would be fired regardless

Who are your top five football head coaches in the Big 10? List is provided below:

Oregon - Dan Lanning
Penn State - James Franklin
Ohio State - Ryan Day
Iowa - Kirk Ferentz
Nebraska - Matt Rhule
Illinois - Bret Bielema

Taking into account the whole picture (in game tactics plus program building plus player development)
honest question. By what metrics do you use to rate JF higher than Day?

Yes they are implicated in this. It really should be a serious violation and this hints that it will be.

Thoughts after rewatching Minny

It didn't end up mattering but on Minnesota's last possession (where they ended up kicking the FG) on second down (I think) they ran a weird looking trick play that seemed like it was designed as a swing pass to an OL (Ersery). He was definitely covered up on the play, so unless the pass was backwards (it wasn't) it would have been illegal touching. Bad play design on that by Minny unless the OL in the flat was just eye candy and the QB was just throwing it away (because they didn't have whatever they were really trying to do).
I don’t believe he was covered by anyone on the line of scrimmage.

What is the saying - "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'"

And as long as these officials continue to allow them to get away with it and there is no price to be paid .....

On an officiating side note, I wish that we would have had the crew that did the OSU vs IU game when we played Ohio State. It was helpful early in the game for IU and could have been a difference maker in our game vs OSU.

Why "Social Media" is great....

On Hawkeye Beacon Willie said his joke missed/fell flat, and it was intended to mean paying Jacori in real-time to get back on the mat during the injury time.
I much prefer the context that Bob was in the process of cutting checks in real-time to their next 57 lb transfer. Because it's probably true.
