PBP
I gave a heads up in the Ohio State thread that I would not be able to provide PBP for the Maryland match. Hopefully, one or more of you will step forward, and provide PBP for one or more matches in the dual. As always, I remind those that attempt to do PBP to provide the score of the individual match, and to also provide the team score, at the end of each match.

Hey hlstone, question for you

I caught some of the PCN broadcast of the PIAA Field Hockey championships last Sunday. I forget the bracket, but the Sem was one of the finalists, and won their class final. Anyway, if I recall correctly, your daughter goes to the Sem.

The broadcast indicated that the Sem goalie was a four-year starter. At the end of the match, they showed the Sem team celebrating around their goalie. The backup goalie was in the pic briefly, and I believe she was wearing a green jersey. Was that your daughter?

OT: PSU fraternity system on the ropes. Down to 36 chapters from 54 not long ago. Houses being suspended and shut down by the University.

University spies all over downtown looking for girls - GIRLS! - entering fraternity houses, then they call the cops alleging the frat is violating the Borough's COVID ordinance. Meanwhile, non-Greek apartment and house parties abound in State College. Fraternities can't get guys to live in their houses because in apartments they can have fun and party with little supervision. In the fraternity house, it needs to now be like a monastery. After over a hundred years, severe risk that there will be no fraternities at Penn State within a couple years. Sad.

Tyler Bowen going to NFL

Joining Urban at Jacksonville.

Bowen seemed to be one of the top couple recruiters on Franklin's staff, so this will likely hurt in the short run.........

141-149 situation...

This is just for the sake of discussion. Cael suggested we might need Beau and Nick both in the lineup. If we just take this as a starting point then here are some points to consider.
1. Who has a better chance to succeed at 149?
2. Nick has certainly earned the right to choose his weight and Hoosier Lion, who seems to be in the know about the Lees, thinks he’d clearly choose 141.
3. What makes the team better at tournament time?
4. Is it too late for Nick to certify at 149?
5. If the answer to question 1 is Nick, would he go up for the team’s sake?

Well, no matter what, I was just happy to see the guys finally in action?

WE ARE!!!

OT Remembering the CHALLENGER...35 years ago today at 11:39am

One of those stunning moments in time.

STS-51-L was the twenty-fifth flight of the Space Shuttle and the tenth flight of Challenger. STS-51-L carried a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite aboard an Inertial Upper Stage, and the Spartan satellite to observe Halley's Comet. The mission was originally scheduled for July 1985, but was delayed to November and subsequently to January 1986. The crew was announced on January 27, 1985, and was commanded by Francis Scobee. Michael Smith was assigned as the pilot, and the mission specialists were Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, and Ronald McNair. The two payload specialists were Gregory Jarvis, who was assigned in October as a payload specialist to conduct research for the Hughes Aircraft Company, and Christa McAuliffe, who flew as part of the Teacher in Space Project. Happy Valley Crisis: Business Is Dismal, Penn State Facing Comprehensive Furloughs, Athletics’ AD Pay -20% & Pegula Staff Pay - Whacked By $50%

Visited your Happy Valley recently. Chatted with some of our Business Contacts. We love SC. Downtown Area. Business District Boss said that he’s extremely worried that 60 - 70% of Business’s will go under! Unless they get substantial $$$$.

Rapid Transit did renew their lease — Landlord was sympathetic— RT had lost > $650K for the year! Bars & Restaurants have been financially decimated...

Oh, I had a dream, it seemed I stood alone, And the Veil of all the years goes, Goes sinking from my eyes like a stone...

You know when Phil Esten was at PSU, He badgered Sandy endlessly about dumping some of the non-revenue sports. She did however, implement a $20% AD’s cut in 2020. Concessions Boss Ebeling was laid off in August, IT cut some Staff permanently. However, Lash Project is going full speed ahead.

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young, In a world of magnets & miracles, Our thoughts strayed constantly & without boundary, Running before time took our Dreams Away, To a life consumes by Slow Decay.

The Biggest Current Rumor At PSU is that All PSU Units & Departments Will Have Comprehensive Furloughs by the end of January.

PSU is also implanting a comprehensive CO-VID Testing Project. Student have been sent Testing Kits & all students will be tested 2 Times.

OT: Helping an alcoholic family member

Yesterday, @Bondist posted a sad request for advice on how to help his son. I once started a very long thread about how to help an alcoholic friend and I suspect that @Bondist's post got lost in the Dry January thread. This is just me making sure this gets the attention it deserves from the board. Thank you for your indulgence.

@Bondist, I tried to post something to help yesterday but couldn't come up with the right words. I hope this helps. God Bless.

This is the original post:
Hesitate to post , but if anyone has honest suggestions then worth it. No alcohol (weekend red wine only) since June 1 when 34 year son, unemployed and divorced and struggling alcoholic moved home. Thought to show support , as no big deal for me to eliminate but despite numerous recommendations at counseling I have failed to help him. Have heard numerous time rock bottom, etc . DUI hearing approaching, maybe the court will forced help.

From @Lion Son/Husband/Father: Does he go to meetings? They saved my cousins life.

From @paulrandythomas: Nearly all meetings these days are on Zoom, just google AA with your location and there will be many options. Or, the AA intergroup site has links to meetings worldwide, 24/7. He can turn off his mic and video if he wants and just listen and remain truly anonymous.

Yes, casinos are fun, and yes they do generate tax revenues... largely by emptying the pockets of degenerates and people fighting addiction. And, yes, they do attract a certain element that could be considered fun by some, but are prostitutes, bookies, mob bosses and bagmen really that much of a value-add?

Does Ira Lubert -- and his syndicate of capital partners -- stand to make a small fortune on this development courtesy of his power and influence as the chairman of the Penn State Board of Trustees?

What does this casino bring to the Penn State community?

If you were James Franklin, what are your thoughts? Does this put his student-athletes and the health of his program at risk? Think back to Mike McQueary. State College is a small town and it wouldn't be hard to find guys like Mike who might be willing to influence the outcome of a game for personal gain.

History and Presidential Inaugurations

As most of you know, my passion is history. This post is not political, and has nothing to do specifically with the individuals inaugurated today. Please do not bring any politics into this thread.

On a purely historical basis, I offer two items about Presidential inaugurations:
