Those edge of your seat, cut the tension with a knife scenes. So great. I'll start with two:
1. Opening scene of Inglourious Basterds when Colonel Hans Landa interrogates the farmer about sheltering Jews. Amazing scene.
2. The coin flip scene in No Country For Old Men. Really revealed the depravity of Anton Chigurh. Sensational.

I'm by no means a car expert, and my 2010 Highlander hybrid has been holding up well at 110K miles. But for the past year or so, I go the Toyota dealer to get regular maintenance at about 5000 mile intervals, and I feel like i'm getting scammed every time. I'm looking for an oil change and tire rotation, and it's as if the maintenance people are on commission -- you need new tires ($1000), you need a timing belt ($2500), you name it.

What do I do? Continue going back and fight like hell to not get fleeced, or somehow find an honest mechanic who only does what needs to be done and only recommends absolutely necessary repairs? Where does such a mechanic exist?

Cutting salaries by half for employees who are not able to perform their duties during the pandemic and cutting all budgets by 3%. Postponing some capital expenditures too. This is starting to get really ugly.

When we bought our current house 9 years ago, the lawn wasn’t great. We had a company do fertilizer and weed killer treatments for a few years, which helped, but we stopped because of budgetary concerns. Now our lawn is a mess, with just about every type of weed you could think of. We could probably afford to resume the treatments, but am wondering whether it’s an uphill battle that we’ll never win. Can we gradually overcome the weeds with treatments and overseeing? The other options are to accept the weeds and a complete replacement of the lawn.

Anyone have a similar situation?

In an attempt to meet a $10 million budget shortfall, Boise State has placed just about the entire payroll on furlough, and that includes football coaches.

All employees making at least $40,000 per year will have to take some kind of unpaid, involuntary leave, with the highest level going up to 10 furlough days for all employees earning at least $150,000 per year.

According to the Idaho Statesman, that means Bryan Harsin plus nine of his on-field assistants will have to take 10 furlough days, while running backs coach Winston Venable will take seven, indicating his salary falls between $100,000 and $149,999. Harsin will lose roughly $63,000 off his $1.65 million salary.

The school’s FAQ page says employees can take their furlough at their (and their supervisor’s) discretion, and must be taken between May 3 and July 31. Employees will not be permitted to perform any work activity during their furlough.

From a work flow perspective, Harsin and his charges Will Likely just take their regularly-scheduled vacations while leaving their cellphones at home (the university issued one, not their personal phones) and their bank accounts un-deposited.

Boise State is the first school to publicly announce mandatory furloughs, though, like Iowa State and its pay cuts, they surely won’t be the last as the nation’s economy continues its pandemic free fall.

Great guy who has lead a great life. Multiple children and grandchildren. U.S. Navy vet who traveled the world after retiring from his second career. Remarkably recovered from cancer in his mid 30’s and has been cancer free for over 50 years. Tough SOB. Used to pick me up occasionally back in the day from college PSU at my apartment on Foster Avenue. I will always remember the great conversations on the car rides home.
