ESPN had a special showing of the American's involved in Medal Matches last night. Thrilled to see ESPN pick up at least these medal matches and I as many wrestling fans... would be thrilled with more coverage in the future.

Kyle Snyder up a weight at 213 lbs and winning a WORLD TITLE on the Senior Level at age 19? Holy crap!!! His ankle pick at that level is Cael Sandersonesque. His Russian opponent was ankle picked to death and he couldn't stop it. The Russian tried to collar tie the entire match with little effort to shoot. KS was the aggressor most of the match and it paid off, handsomely. Great win by a young stud. I thought the win over Jake Varner might have been rust, a lack of mat time and a lack of aggression on Jake's part, but after watching the match... Kyle Snyder won because he's extremely talented, is extremely strong and is a Jake Varner clone... just a tad younger and maybe a little hungrier.

Jordan Burroughs is one bad wrestler....on a world scale. He's much quicker than the rest of the world at 74kgs, stronger than the rest of the world at 74kgs and he's most likely not LOSING to anyone at the Olympics in 2016. He did have a close semi-final match with the Russian who resorted to slapping Burroughs to throw him off his game. The Russian beat out an injured Dennis Tsargush to represent Russia at the world championships, JB's opponent (Tsargush) who beat him in the semi-finals of last years World Championships. In the Finals, due to the crazy draw in FS International wrestling, JB met a Mongolian in the finals that had the feel of a quarterfinals match. JB teched him, 10-0 and the legend of Jordan Burroughs grows. He's now a three time World Champion and Olympic Champion.

James Green had a very impressive showing and was in a third place match and took the bronze medal in a victory against Bulgaria's Petar Kirov at 70KG. Green was up 4-0 when Kirov tried a standing spladel and got pounced on by Green in the scramble and Green... pinned him. James was ranked 16th by United World Wrestling coming into the match and had a phenomenal showing above his ranking. He was completely dominating the Bulgarian before the pin. LL... your man got a big WIN!!!

Was in Vegas on business last week and a couple friends flew in on Wednesday so we could go to the Friday and Saturday rounds. I've always wanted to see a World or Olympic tournament live and this was the perfect opportunity. My observations: Herbert and Humphrey did NOT look good. Green looked very good and his conditioning was excellent which I always thought was a problem for him in college. Snyder and Burroughs...WOW!! Thought it was weird that they played music during the entire tournament, just not used to it I guess. The Iranian crowd was driving us crazy with the over-sized Kazoo or whatever instrument it was...overall...it was awesome!!

Hey Banger, a couple follow up questions....did Humphrey look like the cut was too much for him? Almost every workout pic I saw that he posted he was the one wearing the long clothes. Can't remember where it was but I recall an interview or two with him admitting this was his last attempt at 61kg.

Regarding Herbert...what do you think his issue was? He looked so good against Ruth in the Open & Trials and he had me really excited for his & Hrovat's training style & teaching methods. Thought for sure he'd translate it into paydirt. In what areas do you think he didn't look good?

For those who have never had the pleasure of hearing the Iran, Iran chant at an International wrestling event. Here is an extended clip of wrestling action to the Iran, Iran chant... ALL THROUGH THE VIDEO. Enjoy... make sure your Advil is ready. They use horns, gazoo's, drums, a male cheer leader...

Go to around the 7:10 mark and prepare for a throbbing headache.

It was a weak cutback attempt not a spladle.
Iranians are some of the best wrestling fans in the world.

jtothemfp, Humphrey did looked sucked down and was absolutely overpowered in my opinion. As far as Herbert, I think the guy sitting behind us hit the nail on the head when he said, "Herbert trained to beat Ruth and forgot he had to wrestle at the World's". Also, I don't think he made a single aggressive attempt even after he fell behind, he just looked like he wanted to counter and it definitely was not working.

Thanks for the video amalone...as if I was going to forget that anyway!!

Thanks banger. I haven't watched Herbert's presser, but I did see this written at Bloodround:
Jake Herbert lost his first match of the day with a surprising shortage of offense. He was not pulled in to repechage. An emotional Herbert at the press conference was clearly disappointed in a bad match at the worst time possible.
Baranoski added this about Humphrey:
Reece Humphrey was able to get a repechage match, but did not win. He started the day with a wild 11-11 victory, but after that he was unable to get any offense going in his next two matches.

It wasn't a cut back. It was a funk roll where an offensive wrestler has a defensive wrestler in a single leg and the defensive wrestler tries to roll his opponent by putting his free leg behind his knee and rolling him. In doing so the defensive wrestler hopes by exposing his back... he is able to roll through to the offensive wrestlers back. James Green was ready for the move and stuck the Bulgarian. Huge risk... big reward. This time it got an International wrestler pinned.

Not a cut back and not a spladel.

Iranian fans are some of the most boisterous.

I posted it for those who had never head the chant.... as stated in sentence one of the post. Did you read the post?

I did, I was just saying that it is something, once heard, is impossible to get out of your mind. My humor doesn't translate well to a post. No negativity intended, and the Advil is a good recommendation!
