Senior Worlds (non Olympic weights) - October 28-31, 2024

What?? My point exactly. I would think you woukd be happy for the most successful wrestler in PSU HISTORY to expand his career and be a coach. Lol
I get that it's scary, should he stay PSU his entire career as an underling to Cael?
Who btw, is not even a mosquito to Taylor's international career?
Where the f*** did I ever say he should stay at PSU. You wanna know the real truth? If there is one PSU great that I didn't care to see go somewhere else it's DT. You can search my entire history and I'd be shocked if I ever said one time that he was even one of my all time favorites here. Truth be told, I never cared for him personally, just always something about him that rubbed me the wrong way. Now there really is something I can hold against him and that's the fact that he's out to bury Cael and PSU wrestling. I'm sorry that it hurts you so much that I want him to fail in doing that.

This is not true at all. Do you associate Cael with Iowa State? Pretty sure he doesn’t either. Allegiances change. Athletes, coaches and fans. I never said he had to stay. He did what is right for him. Doesn’t mean I have to continue being a fan once he no longer reps the school I’m a fan of
It's all good, I get it. Not sure how you can't still be a fan of the most successful wrestler in PSU history.
I'm a Hawk fan, I don't give a shit where he coaches.
I love Taylor.
Wish we had him!
He's one of the goats. Cael on the international stage is a nothing burger compared to Taylor.

Iowa State? How are you reading anything I said into Iowa State?
Don't be a fan, I'll always be a fan of Taylor. I don't give a shit where he coaches.
Some things transcend sports.
You said the DT will always be true blue PSU. I’m saying that’s BS and proving it by showing that no one associates Cael with Iowa State even though that’s where he became the greatest NCAA wrestler of all time. His allegiance changed to PSU like it should have and DT’s will change to OSU as it should. Not hard to understand. You can continue being his biggest fan. I’m not telling anyone how to feel, just explaining how I myself feel

I understand your view. I think I’m this way with all sports. I’m a Broncos fan unfortunately and I loved Von Miller until he left. I’ll de devastated if Jokic ever leaves the Nuggets or Cale Makar ever leaves the Avs but they if do you better believe I won’t be wearing their jersey any longer

I just watched David's 15 minute interview. He was humble and appreciative. He mentioned Cael, Casey and Cody in is thanks.....along with others. I rooted for him to win gold. I rooted for him to win bronze. I will root for him as a coach all year....except for once at NCAAs or twice if they have a dual. Much congrats to David for all the joy he brought to me and PSU and USA. Wishing much success to you and your team.....with limitations of course :)

Guys, I get that you're pissed that Taylor moved on. Where did I mention Iowa State? I don't care that Cael moved on. I'm jealous of your whole program. I don't get the animosity though for Taylor.
His credentials dwarf Cael on the world stage. You expect him to continue as an underling to Cael? The guys a million dollar CEO and has the resume to back it up.
Wth guys.

I guess I'm just not convinced of the threat-level w/ DT. He's a big name, and may attract a few recruits, some of which will probably win some championships. Can his guys win the semis over 70% of the time over the course of many years? That's what he needs to do to be a threat to Cael. We'll see....

I'll always be a fan of what DT brings to the mat though--and I do wholeheartedly wish him success. If he somehow unseats Cael as the dominant NCAA coach, he will have earned it, big time.
I know this isn’t an exact comparison by any means but I feel like the sentiment was probably the same when Kirby Smart left Alabama. Look how that’s turned out

You are having some serious reading comprehension issues in this thread.

Not trying to be a dick but your reading comprehension skills need some work. Again, I’ve never once said that he should’ve stayed at PSU as Caels “underling”. He did what’s best for him. Bottom line is he doesn’t rep PSU any longer and as such he is competition just like Ryan, Brands, Bormet, etc. That’s it.

absolutely, made no difference...thanks for responding for sanity reasons. I still want to see the post interview (will look now) as I think David will say 'all kind of things were going through his mind during my career/journey' and then speak of his coaches :) (while celebrating his bronze on the mat)
I was wrong. THought there would be a separate shout out to Cael and/or Casey...

So you're pissed that he moved on to make millions? Maybe it's your petty bs you need to look at .

I'm comprehending everything perfectly. So you aren't a fan anymore.
Got it.
I'm a fan of Cael, always will be. From his unbeaten college run to his PSU run with NC's.
I'll always be a fan of greatness.
Grow up. Lol
We aren't fans anymore because our greatest wrestler ever left us to better himself.
We don't want success for him.
Wahhhh wahhh

You keep on trying to crap on Cael’s world stage accomplishments. Cael was 2 for 2 in World and Olympic medals by the time he was 25 (likely would have been 3 for 3 given his replacement, Eggum, won silver in 2001). He left the world stage with those in hand a full 3 years younger than DT was when he won his first medal. As an Iowa fan would you serially insult Gable’s career because he, too, only won a mere 2 world medals (by the age of 24)? I doubt it.

But now folkstyle is their turf and DT’s accomplishments are, in your words, a nothing burger compared to Cael’s.

Dude, you are a good poster but stop attacking a straw man. PSU fans aren't wishing DT the best anymore because his new job is to end our dynasty and we're acknowledging he has the resources and ability to do so. Wish him good health and happiness to him and his family except when the happiness directly is adverse to Penn State Wrestling.

Why would we actively root for someone who is going to be our direct competition? To do so would be disrespectful if anything since it's literally saying we don't think DT has the ability to be a top notch coach. He's a real threat and we're acknowledging it.

You don't need to lie to this board or to yourself lol. DT doesn't need you to white knight for him.

Honestly, IRONBIRD's schtick is more admirable, at least it's genuine and passionate.

My 2 cents worth. Whenever there’s a head to head competition and PSU is on one side, I’m always going to be rooting for the guy/guys in blue and white. But that being said, I’m well past the point where it’s only rah, rah, rah for my team and everyone else is, well. .. garbage. There are lots of other wrestlers and teams that I root for and I personally would like to see DT have a successful coaching career. And if it gets to the point where he’s really challenging Penn State every year, so be it. Don’t forget that over the last 13 years since college wrestling was invented, there were three NCAA tournaments where the team title wasn’t decided until well into the finals. We came out on top each time , but I think all the fans will agree that they were really exciting tournaments.

I thought you said good night about 15 minutes ago. Just leave troll.
Troll?? Nothing troll about it. I would argue it's logic. I'm a huge wrestling fan. You are correct , I did say that was my last post.
Can't understand a fan base pissed at Taylor, your most decorated wrestler ever, for doing what's right for his family.
He's more loyal to PSU than all of you babbling nobody's dissing him.

Some of the conversations here should be moved to the Oklahoma State thread again but we managed to get that one locked already once lol

David Taylor is indefinitely going to be a polarizing conversation on this board.

A stroke of marketing genius would be to present his shoes at the opening home OKST dual (aint Bassett supposedly attending? Maybe that’s just internet rumor) in the center of the mat.

“I’ve had my run. I’ve competed at the highest level and saw success. Now, it’s time to bring that to those who trust in me to do so. That’s why people come here… because they trust us to help them get to the highest level. Thank you all for the support on this last journey.”

It lets everyone know: Hey, we can’t be missing duals at Gallagher-Iba… You never know what you’ll see. Starts with a flash bang. Gets the place to erupt for him and the program. IF the recruits are there, they see pure passion for the sport and program.

A touch self-absorbed? Eh, maybe. I wouldn’t think anything of it, personally, but maybe the tightest clutchers of pearls would.

I hate that I just wrote wrestling retirement fan-fiction.

EDIT: If you really wanna get crazy with it, you turn the lights out like the Undertaker and pop them back on with the same shoes he wore there in the center.

And yet you still want to argue, troll. I am a huge wrestling fan as well. You want to promote a hate for David that this board does not have. Honestly I think we would like to have him replace Cael when it is time, Okie State is the best stepping stone. But these are my opinions on a Penn State Wrestling board.

Bob , are you going to ask if he's drunk? He thinks it's an anamoly that one could be a fan of Taylor and Cael as a wrestling fan.

Sett ... just sleep it off lol

I'm out , you guys are pissed, because your goat left. I get it.

I'm not seeing anyone pissed that he left for OkSt. Weird hill to die on. Going to OkSt was an ideal opportunity for him. I don't see anyone denying that. Are you bitter that Iowa missed out and will soon be falling behind another team?

Btw, try going on GIA and tell them how much you love former Iowa wrestlers Ryan and Dresser and hope they have great success against Iowa.

I get where that’s coming from—DT will have a lot going for him. Support aplenty, the parts of the “secret sauce” that are replicable, and obviously his amazing international accomplishments to dazzle recruits with.

I guess i’m just leaning into my belief that it’s the parts of the secret sauce that can’t be easily replicated where DT might struggle. Time and again, PSU wrestlers face the brightest lights with the clearest, and most effective mindset. These things come from who 3Cs are as people—and if you only try to act like them, it might not result in the same success.

I could certainly be wrong. It’s just a gut feeling that the person who took to twitter moments after J’Den Cox lost on the topside in Rio is going to have a hard time leading young men to the same heights his coach has.

Well that was weird. I guess there was something in the candy.

I don't hate DT and I wasn't pissed when he left. He has a great family and I hope he's happy in OK. But I will never root for OSU. I don't even root for Cenzo at UNC or Marky at Penn and those teams are zero threat to Penn State. I root for my team and I root against every other team that might get within 50 points in March. There is no ill will against anyone, but I am a fan of Penn State and I want them to dominate.

I absolutely hope you right and I do agree. Just a bit scared. Overall though I don’t think DT is Cael and Cael and Co are what make PSU so special
