Senior Worlds (non Olympic weights) - October 28-31, 2024

92kg Gold Match - Abdurashid Sadulaev (AIN) VS Miriani Maisuradze (GEO)

Period 1:
Tying up & circling Maisuradze coming forward. They're back to center circling, then Maisuradze pushes forward again, but isn't doing much more than that. Tying up, hand fighting & circling. Sadulaev passivity warning. Maisuradze pushing forward, Sadulaev snaps, no luck & they're back to circling, pushing & hand fighting in the center of the mat. Maisuradze pushes forward, Sadulaev gets hit with another passivity warning & goes on the clock, restart. Sadulaev shoots a low single off the whistle, gets the TD, then adds a turn & another & it's 6-0. Sadulaev working for more, but no luck, restart, 3:45 left. Tying up & pushing, Sadulaev fakes, Maisuradze snaps, nothing. More of the same as the period comes to an end. 6-0 Sadulaev

Period 2:
Back to action. Tying up & hand fighting, Sadulaev tries an underhook & bull rush, but Maisuradze evades the shot attempt. Back to center circling & pushing, 2-min left. Maisuradze looking underhook, but Sadulaev with solid positioning. Maisuradze looking under hook again, no luck, 90-sec left. More tying up & circling, but not much more action. Maisuradze pushing forward, but Sadulaev circles back in, 1-min left. Stoppage & warning on Sadulaev for something, restart, 50-sec left. Tying up & pushing, Maisuradze pushing forward a little, but not doing much more. He fakes, then tries a shot on the edge at the end, but Sadulaev sprawls back & it's a stalemate. Time runs out a couple seconds later & that's how it ends.

Abdurashid Sadulaev DEC Miriani Maisuradze 6-0

Sadulaev wins gold at 92kg.

he didn't - really tough dec for him, it seemed. I am betting he calls out his former corner men in his post interviews... I also don't understand how his opponent got the first passivity call (only calling that out for what seems to be a lack of understanding or inconsistencies - and not referring to anything else except the first 90 seconds)
Agreed. That passivity call was so strange. Ghasempour was in the center and had the only attack. It didn’t matter and maybe actually worked in Ghasempour’s favor since he attacked and scored while on the clock but it just didn’t make sense. Every time I think I completely understand the passivity/activity clock a call like that is made to make me question it again

Kentchadze laid waste to his bracket. That is by far the best he has ever looked. He’s always been good but hasn’t really challenged for a world title for a long time. Pretty sure the announcers said he made the world finals 6 years ago. Absolutely incredible tournament for him.

OW for me is hands down Ono. I’m sure many will say Sadulaev and that’s understandable considering he beat an all timer in DT and another great in Ghasempour but he was seconds away from losing to Ghasempour and didn’t annihilate everyone like Ono did. Ono outscored his opponents 55-2 and had 4 techs and a 10-2 decision. His 10-2 decision was against world and Olympic champ Uguev and his 12-0 win over Vito was a beatdown of the highest order. All of this while being only 20 years old. Pretty scary for the rest of the world. I’m so excited he will be at PSU for a couple months. Lilledahl getting to go with him all the time will be huge for Luke

absolutely, made no difference...thanks for responding for sanity reasons. I still want to see the post interview (will look now) as I think David will say 'all kind of things were going through his mind during my career/journey' and then speak of his coaches :) (while celebrating his bronze on the mat)

DT is trying to poach Ono!! If it comes out that Ono is going to train at OSU instead of PSU we know when it happened 😂
Looks like Ono was pretty mesmerized with him. Penn State room is full of Medals though.

Is Ono a true 61 or can he go 57?
Nm, did a little more research. He's actually wrestled 65 so 61 was a cut. More likely to be a 65 in the future than a 57.
Great kid! Humble and great sportsmanship!
Stealing the gif from the other day! Lol

Dang! I guess there's no such thing as a mandatory rest period at Worlds. Kinda crazy if you ask me but that's life. You deal with the hand you're dealt. Kudos to DT for getting it done.

It does remind me of how high school summer tournaments were sometimes run. One time I was wrestling in the third period and got called on deck on another mat. After a bit of discussion, I think they gave me 10 minutes of 'rest' before I wrestled what was I think the 7th match of the day. Every other weight class had already finished so they were pushing to get the tournament over and get home, LOL.
15min rest is all they gotta give in international styles, I’m pretty sure. Didn’t Cael have a bunch of repechage in close order, when he made his comeback?

DT doesn’t have horsepower for 92kg at this point in his career
Then he horses Ghasempour, he would have teched him if the match was another minute.
Go figure.
I'm shocked David beat him. Taylor summed it all up in the interview.
Ghasempour true 92 also.
Very impressive by Taylor.
Wish he could get a redo with the tank after adjusting to the weight and Sadulaevs style. He knew exactly how he screwed up.
Not saying Taylor would have won, he wrestled a horrible match though.
I agreed with you 100% earlier @amattaro
Ghasempour is probably the strongest wrestler he faced the whole tourney. Monster.
Completely broke him by the end of the match.
Taylor can still kick ass, even up 13 lbs.

DT seemed to get better as the tournament went along. It looked like he was a tidbit rusty at the start of the tournament. Sadulaev is tough, but David couldn't get anything going against him in his first match back & there were comments that he looked sluggish or slow after the match. It was a similar story in his first repechage match where he won 3-1. Again he looked a little slow or sluggish. But, in his third match, or second repechage match, he seemed to hit another gear & picked up a tech. David continued wrestling more dynamically in the bronze match & handled Ghasempour much easier than I expected. After seeing Ghasempour nearly beat Saduleav, only to lose in the final seconds, I wasn't expecting David to win, and he surprised me with his victory. Now I'm left wondering how he would have done against Sadulaev if they'd have met in the finals, after David had a chance to wrestle a few matches and get his flow or rhythm back. I'm not saying he would have won, but I think it would have been a much more exciting match than their first round match.

Very good analysis. I'm with you 100%
So stupid to match them up first round.
I think if they wrestle tomorrow it's a toss up.

If it's all just the same to ya'll, I'd really like to start disliking David Taylor ....

:)

I get it from a PSU standpoint. I'm a Hawk fan , but once they go international I'm team USA. Taylor is a legend and I absolutely love watching him wrestle.
He had to do what was best for him and his family.
Not going to make millions at PSU .
He's a high character person, going to be fun watching him build his team at OSU and the upcoming battles with PSU.
I'm thrilled for him and his future.

I listened to the interview, not sure I buy the reasoning why he didn't leave the shoes. Taylor knows the game, almost like he left an opening.
I'm not sure he's done.
Thoughts?

If we had Taylor, Sadulaev and Yaz running the countries none of this bs going on would be happening.
Seem naive, it's not. Great people with no ulterior motives.
Common sense and love of your fellow human beings is what we need.
Corruption is out of control world wide.
Am I wrong?
As a Hawk fan I'm jealous of your program but enjoy the banter.
Take care guys.
I'm out.

I pretty much already do. Of course I want him to win while competing for the US but as the coach for Okie State I hope they get stomped on. I see most people saying they want him to do great and only lose to PSU. I think that’s asking for trouble. If he shows that ability as a coach right away things get interesting. I would rather him in the middle of the pack. That would show even more that the true MAGIC is Cael, Cody, and Casey

Some of you are acting like spoiled babies at this point.
You think he should stay at PSU forever.
You have heard of a coaching tree, yes?
He's a seedling, he's always going to be true blue PSU.
It's time for him to develop.
He's not a traitor. Lol

I guess I'm just not convinced of the threat-level w/ DT. He's a big name, and may attract a few recruits, some of which will probably win some championships. Can his guys win the semis over 70% of the time over the course of many years? That's what he needs to do to be a threat to Cael. We'll see....

I'll always be a fan of what DT brings to the mat though--and I do wholeheartedly wish him success. If he somehow unseats Cael as the dominant NCAA coach, he will have earned it, big time.

He's got more medals than Cael, not even close. I would never underestimate Taylor. They are throwing money at it too.
He's a winner, you KNOW what his goal is. 😀

Wtf are you talking about?? The guy was just paid millions to make sure PSU fans like myself are not enjoying national championships every year. We are suppose to be all in on him trying to do that? He's OSU now ...just like Cael is true Blue and not Cardinal Red or whatever the f*** Iowa States colors are. He moved on... so as a fan I have moved on too...

Really, the man has a family. That's like saying a great football player who has turned to coaching should stay at his Alma matre and work for peanuts instead of taking a coaching job at another university that he can make millions.
He acknowledged PSU, Cael , everyone in his speech.
He's been a great ambassador for PSU.
It's time to wish him and his family well and be thankful you had him all this time.
I don’t wish him ill, I just don’t want him to do great things at OSU. I don’t think most will have my opinion but I’m sure some feel the same. He can obviously leave and do what’s right financially for his family and I can not be a fan of him anymore when he does. I appreciate what he did for PSU and the US but as his allegiance changed so has my fandom. I’m sorry but I’m a PSU fan who wants them to have 10 national champs, backups who would be AA’s, a team that continues to set the scoring record, gets all the top recruits, and lays waste to the rest of the NCAA. DT is just competition now and as such he’s lumped in with all the other challengers like Bormet, Ryan, and Brands.

I can't believe you even needed to type all that out to be honest...

This is not true at all. Do you associate Cael with Iowa State? Pretty sure he doesn’t either. Allegiances change. Athletes, coaches and fans. I never said he had to stay. He did what is right for him. Doesn’t mean I have to continue being a fan once he no longer reps the school I’m a fan of

What?? My point exactly. I would think you woukd be happy for the most successful wrestler in PSU HISTORY to expand his career and be a coach. Lol
I get that it's scary, should he stay PSU his entire career as an underling to Cael?
Who btw, is not even a mosquito to Taylor's international career?

Don't be a fan, I'll always be a fan of Taylor. I don't give a shit where he coaches.
Some things transcend sports.

Not to bring politics in guys, these are the people from countries that the politicians tell us are evil and our enemies.
Who are the real enemies?
I'm thinking it's the corrupt politicians.
Do these people seem evil?
Just a thought.

You’re not the only one who feels that way. It’s despicable that some people are trying to prod us into a war with these people. I don’t want this thread to get hijacked into a political discussion either, but some things have to be said.
