2018 B1G Championship Session 4 Thread

At this point Zain and Sorensen matches are practically wrestle-offs. I imagine they might be as familiar with each other as any two D1 opponents. Congrats to Zain on a run of continued, unbroken excellence.

Zain has always been such a controlled wrestler, but lately he seems to be flailing about out there on his feet a lot more.
Of course Sorenson knows him so well, but I mean against other kids...not setting up his shots as well.
Aahh..arent high expectations great.

Jordan Pantaleo, 157 first place match

Not much from either guy half way through the first.
So much dancing and feinting it looks like Ronnie Bresser wrestling his shadow.
Tied up with :30 left. Half-hearted shot from Pantaleo, half-hearted counter from Jordan, 0-0 after one.

Pantaleo starts bottom, up and out, 1-0.
Another inactive tie-up. :44 remaining in second.
Pantaleo hits a really nice head inside single with about 15 seconds left, converts, rides out. 3-0.

Micah from bottom to start third.
Pantaleo not letting him out easily, but Micah eventually gets away. :38 RT not a factor, 3-1 Pantaleo.
Micah looks like he's got nothing for Pantaleo as time winds down.
Pantaleo champ at 157, 3-1 final.

True, but Zain still rode him out, and without putting a leg in like usual. Still a hammer on top.

Different forum has a different take on the Zain match. Zain backed up. He did nothing on top. Only took one legitimate shot. Just pushed on Brandon's head. Same old delusional whining.

How about bitching about Sorenson getting off the bottom. Zain took a few semi deep shot attempts in the 1st period, BS took zero, only dropped to a knee.

Have a hard time seeing anyone beating McKenna in two weeks. Gave up no points all tournament.

I remember saying that to myself about McKenna the past couple of years. He tends to go in that way, let's hope he melts down again this time as in the past.

Every time I see McKenna I have one thought in my head. I get that you did it for your wrestling career, but how in the world do you trade a Stanford degree for an Ohio State one? They must have given him the complete opposite of the 4 years for the next 40 years pitch.

In Sorenson's defense, I'm pretty sure he was told before the match that they were using freestyle rules. It's the only explanation for how he could lay in par terre position for two full minutes and not get dinged for it.

165 Championship: Vincenzo Joseph vs. IMar (Illini)

This should be fun. A rematch of last year's NCAA final

Per 1
Joseph with a shot, IMar sprawls, nothing. Blood stoppage for Joseph with 1:55 left. Joseph reaches, nothing. 1 min left. Both guys have tried moves off of the underhook or overhook, but nothing. End.

Per 2
Joseph takes bottom. Caution on IMar. Joseph to his feet, taken back down, back again, then OOB with 1:46 left. Caution again on IMar - waved off, was the whistle on the other mat. Joseph to his feet, take back down. To his feet again, and OOB with 1:27. Joseph up thrown back down, and OOB with 1:10 left. Joseph hits a switch off the whistle, but it's blocked. RT over 1 min for IMar. Joseph to his feet and out at 40 sec, 1-0. RT at 1:40 for IMar. Stoppage with 2 sec left -- not sure why. End

Per 3
IMar takes bottom. Imar out in 3 secs, so it's 1-1. Due to 1:17 in RT for IMar, Joseph will need a TD. Joseph in on a single, they scramble, and a stalemate at 21 sec. Nice move by IMar to avoid the TD. IMar gets a TD @ 2 sec when Joseph was shooting left and right. With RT, it's a 1-4 loss for Joseph

IMar hit a Delgado move to avoid the TD. Nice match

I wish Cenzo would have got on his offense a little sooner. He can beat Imar but he has to shoot. Well at least the Hawk Fans had something to cheer about.

All the Ill wrestlers do that illinois ankle dive. So weak tit.

Joseph waited too long to bring his attack game.
That flop defensive move is how Nick Lee lost to Carr, he lost 2tds like that.

How did Nick Lee lose to Carr?

Carr blatantly went straight backwards to the edge, lowered his stance and waited. Nick attacked that by either chasing him and shooting from too far out becoming extended or stepping straight into him standing high which made him defenseless to any shot.
I can not understand how there was zero adjustments made.
