2021 NCAAs

I'm an incurable optimist. In 2019 Steveson was being touted as the next guy to win four championships. He was even talking about it himself. Then he lost to Cassar. Maybe Gable has matured since then and has gained better focus. I can't help but look through my blue and white glasses.

I also realize Steveson could still win four thanks to the free year.

Actually he can only win 3 as he is a junior now so only has 2 years after this one.

BWI Wrestling Board Team Members - Thanks for all your discussion, insight and passion today. Tom as always, thanks for setting things up and providing PBP.

The team looked damn good; at least as good as they could listening to Byers. It certainly appears Cael & Co did it again and the guys are at the right place at the right time in the right uniform. I am sure the Hawks think they have this locked.....this isn't like OSU in 2018.....but they have to be looking over their shoulders a bit.

I haven’t been able to check in or even watch a ****ing match, yet.

Any of you still throwing in your towel? We’re in this, damnit.
There will be no throwing of towels.
You never know what you'll get!

Im extremely happy for Berge, he seems like a really great kid and had a rough go of it last year. I don't think most people realize what its like coming back from a bad head injury. I got a TBI from in Iraq in 2004. I didnt have much damage below my shoulders, but took a chunk of a building to the head. I had to learn to walk again, my body just didnt move the way I wanted it to. I couldnt regulate emotions. I couldnt imagine trying to wrestle while recovering. I have a lot of respect for that young man and couldn't be happier for him. Hopefully he goes out in the morning and punches his AA ticket.
Wow. Glad to hear you recovered and thank you for your service!!!!

Obviously this is entirely unrelated to wrestling, but kudos to you for taking one for the team and getting yourself back into shape. American warriors are bad-asses. I just finished reading Sean Parnell's Outlaw Platoon and he describes a head injury similar to yours that left him "not right" and he ended up with a full disability months later as the result. I find it interesting that his description and yours here mimic some Lyme disease symptoms that I've suffered as well. Brain injuries suck (Lyme has lots of odd cognitive issues).

4000lb 2,000lb VBIED took out our FOB wall in AFG. I was enjoying a rare moment of peace and relaxation after a morning patrol and (oddly enough) filling and restacking sandbags with the boys around our platoon's compound. I had just settled in to read and conduct tanning ops when it knocked out of my chair from 300m away. Ended up calling for fire and directing one of our 240s while wearing flipflops, plate carrier, and ranger panties.

Occasionally I suffer from an inexplicable inability to form or recall words. The other day, it was "temperature". So, yeah, TBI isn't a joke, and I really hope that youth sports continue to improve in terms of preventing and diagnosing it.

Edit: Corrected to reflect the majority of news reports on the incident in question.

did lionvision take of the wrestling club website? i am having all kind of trouble looking at the brackets
IMO the club site was under siege because flo’s latest BS of putting basic info behind a paywall.....sending more people than normal looking for brackets.

the NCAA website has no problem keeping active brackets for basketball but wrestling is nowhere to be found....at least by me.

Anybody want to focus on Kerk's match, and do PBP? It looks like Beard will start about 1 min before Kerk, which would cause me to miss Kerk for the 2nd time today. smh
Presume you have an iPhone or Android, Tom? I have AppleTV ESPN App on mat of choice (can do same with Firestick ESPN app. Computer on mat of choice and iPad on the multi view.
And iPhone streaming Byers. It's a control room but nothing is missed.

Nice start by PSU in Day 1.

Please use this for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussions. If you're replying to another post, please use the Quote function.

When:
Thursday, March 19, 11 am EDT

Where:
St. Louis, MO

TV:
ESPNU

Video Stream:
EPSN3 -- they'll have coverage on all 8 mats. You can watch multiple mats simultaneously on your computer, or watch only 1 mat -- you decide.

Audio Stream:
Jeff Byers's radio PBP will be streamed. The pre-session portion start at 10:40 am EDT, and the wrestling coverage starts at 11 pm EDT. You can access the audio stream at:

PBP:
I'll provide coverage of as many PSU matches as I can (basically, all of them, unless two PSUers end up wrestling at the same time).

Note: As I posted in the 2021 Nationals Coverage thread earlier this week, I'll be out for Session 4 (Friday afternoon, at 3 pm). This is a heads up.

Team Scoring:
The best place, IMHO, to get updated team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site. You can access the virtual team scoring at:

Mat Assignments:
I post upcoming PSU mat assignments as I learn of them. Others do as well; we try to help each other out during NCAAs. The best sources I have found for mat assignments in past Nationals were TrackWrestling (go to their dashboard) or the Twitter account of Penn State Wresting (@pennstateWREST).

Let's keep it going, PSU
I can't recall from 2019. Does ESPNU do the the 4 split screen for the Quarters?

Excited about the prospects of our young guys making more noise on day #2. Cael and staff will have them ready.

Are there any other places to get mat assignments, other then track, that might be easier to navigate?

@pennstatewrest on twitter does a pretty good job, if you aren’t a flo subscriber with the sms option.

My Dad is not a flo subscriber and I am not sure he will get on the penn state wrestling twitter page either. I may have to just help him use track and constantly remind him to refresh the page.

A few years ago I found an Apple NCAA D1 wrestling app with easily printed brackets. They did not seem to update yesterday but today are updated. But that being said, for real time updates, PSWC brackets are amazing! An awesome free feature that is worth the membership fee!

Twitter auto refreshes. Byers gets about 80% of them right too.

Flo needing a subscription for what is effectively public info is BS. Thankfully, I punted them years ago and have no real need to return.

sorry, i didn't realize that was behind the paywall. though, from the sounds of it, they're providing a service that no one else is doing an effective job of providing.

Gents: Excellent Day 1! I thought Beard would make a run...and he now has a pretty clean path to the semis and with the way he's wrestling could win it all (anything's possible at 97). That said, it's not much of a stretch to see 5 in the finals and Berge in the semis. Definitely looking like it will be a dogfight to the end. Good luck tomorrow! :)
Not countin out the $50 yet. Great battle

It is..... I don't need text messages, the basic upcoming matches is missing. Again...it's literally public info, it just isn't accessed well. It's not original content, or even copyrighted broadcast or media. Heck, they aren't even showing ALL of the brackets anymore. Just the frontside.

Byers gets it enough right and he has copyrighted media and there is no cost for it. Ad servicing would be fine with me for basic info on Flo.

Doesn't anyone use trackwrestling.com? Click "Events", select "NCAA Division 1 Championships", then "Enter Event". They've been keeping the brackets up to date as far as I can tell. From the Blue Bar, click "Brackets" for, well, the brackets...and "Teams" for team scores.

They do have all of the brackets without an account. The drop downs at the top are a bit confusing though. It is frustrating that there is no dashboard anymore though, absolutely. Track always had superior information but a highly inferior user interface. It seems to me, things are going in the wrong direction since the acquisition

Ok, I'll be the one to say it. Robbie needs to beat Gutierrez and McKee and Teske to lose to Hildebrandt to set up the one match everyone wants to see - Howard vs Teske.

My nephew has had long term lyme. 25 years old. He just had covid, too. His lyme is much better after he got over covid. He thinks the immune response covid kicked in also helped with the latent lyme virus. Co-relation, not causation.

That’s what I have been using, but they are too up to date! The ESPN app must have a lag because takedowns show up on Track before they happen on TV. So, don’t look for information during a bout 😉
