2021 NCAAs

285 7th Place Match: Kerk vs. Orndorff

picking it up in the 1st period, with Kerk up 2-0. Kerk with a dominating ride, and a stall warning on Orndorff. Kerk with a parallel ride, but not much in terms of tilt combos. End. RT @ 2+ for Kerk

Per 2
Kerk takes bottom. He's up but a stoppage for something ... I think the clock didn't start. Kerk up returned, and spins around for the reversal, 4-0. Kerk cuts him, 4-1. Kerk in on a single, Orndorff with a whizzer but Kerk gets the TD, 6-1. Stall call on Orndorff makes it 7-1. Stalemate at 21 sec left. RT is locked before the period is over. End.

Per 3
Orndorff takes neutral. Kerk with a quick TD, 9-1. Stall call on Orndorff makes it 10-1. 1 min left. Orndorff not doing a thing, but Kerk not looking like he can tilt him. Stall call on Orndorff makes it 11-1. End. With 6:10 in RT, it's a 12-1 Major, and Kerk takes 7th place!

Beard had this won a number of times. Why is he so gassed? Thank God for the win.

Beard needs conditioning
Conditioning and endurance for Beard are still an issue. Really like his offense for a 197 pounder, but has too many gas tank-induced lapses where he gets careless and gives up easy points. If he can ever get his conditioning to where it needs to be, look out. But of course, that's much easier said than done.

It seems so odd, that when anyone gets a leg on this kid, he sprawls and in 90 percent of any match you see, that is the end of that, but with Beard it is as if his sprawl has no weight attached to it and the other wrestler simply goes right through it. I have not seen this before but there has to be a solution

He has anti-Cenzo hips. He doesn't bring them to the party.

he looks like he is always trying to get the far side leg (for the famous DT cradle) but doesn't get enough pressure on the head

Recipe for 2nd:

RBY wins and it's more or less over. We could lose the other 3 and Ferrari would need a pin to tie it.

RBY loses and we need 2/3 of Nick/Carter/Brooks to win assuming a Ferrari win or we can hope one of them pins then it's tied assuming a Ferrari decision.

What, pray tell, happened this year to Nebraska (2 AAs. 12th place 38 point)s and Ohio State (3 AAs)?

Iowa has wrapped up the team title. PSU and Okla. St. are battling for 2nd place in the team standings as we head into the finals.

Please use this for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussions. If you're replying to another post, please use the Quote function.

When:
Saturday, March 20, 7 pm EDT

Where:
St. Louis, MO

TV:
ESPN

Video Stream:
I don't think there is a video stream. Perhaps you can access in ESPN3 -- I'm just not sure.

Audio Stream:
Jeff Byers's radio PBP will be streamed. The pre-session part of the show starts at 6:40 pm EDT, with the wrestling coverage at 7:00 pm EDT. You can access the audio stream at:

PBP:
By tradition, I don't do PBP during finals matches involving PSU wrestlers. After all the PBP I've done over the course of the tournament, I want to sit back and enjoy the competition involving PSU wrestlers. I'll be posting in the thread -- just not PBP.

Team Scoring:
The best place, IMHO, to get updated team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site. You can access the virtual team scoring at:

Mat Assignments:
n/a, as they are only using 1 mat.

PSU has four guys in the finals. Best of luck to each of them!

It is certainly odd. He gave up 2 TDs to woodley where after the shot, he had Woodley completely flat underneath him, yet still gave up the TD. That goes to a stalemate or a TD to the sprawler 99.99% of the time

AWESOME Job Beard!!!!!!!!
He has all the tools to be a National champion in the future, needs to work on 3 things in my opinion to get there

1. Expand that Gas Tank
2. React better(quicker, or anticipate better) to his opponents shots
and
3. Expand that Gas tank

4. Watch frigging clock for crying out loud. He has given up last 5 second of the period points multiple times this year in tight matches. Twice on that match.
5. Expand that gas tank

If Kerk gets the initial TD, fuggeadboutit. Congrats to him and Beard!!

The NCAA messed up Cael's plan by awarding everybody a free year. Next year will be even more interesting and after that, look out.

You know what's funny about Beard? His cardio genetics suggest he has a pretty high ceiling for developing a limitless gas tank. His older brother is an elite swimmer. I think a combination of a full season and learning to pace himself better is going to go a long way for him.

PSU clinches at least a share of 2nd with an RBY decision to start the night, correct? +4 makes the lead 6 points with only ferrari left for OSU. are there tiebreakers for team places?

I think he wrestles tense which could be affecting his breathing. should spend more time hanging out with VJ.

My wife asked why there was blood coming out his nose during the interview. I told her his ego kicked his ass

Lol! Damn you AJ Ferrari and your big muscles, cocky straight-back saunter and huge DEADLIFT!! I bet you he has a really hot girlfriend just to make me feel more inferior. I can't believe he is from Texas. He is tailor made for the Jersey SHore!! Pauly D hi-hair and everything!
