2021 NCAAs

I think he wrestles tense which could be affecting his breathing. should spend more time hanging out with VJ.

Honestly and I hate to think like this, that's something that can't be taught. It's something that improves with experience but Beard won't ever be as calm and collected as Cenzo. I'd love to be wrong though. I very much see something similar with Joe Lee, I thought he wrestled amazing before he officially put on the PSU singlet. There was nothing at stake before that.

Some of our guys just thrived off the biggest moments, two of them that come out to mind are Bo and Cassar. They LOVED it when the stakes are high and they can take home all the marbles for their team. You can't teach that.

Hindsight 20-20, I think Cassar in 2018 would have won 197 ... we absolutely had to go with Shak based on numbers and wrestle off but Cassar had the "it factor" whereas Shak is a perfect example of an extremely talented but "tense" wrestler

The announcer just said DeSanto could wrestle all day. He doesn't drink, doesn't party. He doesn't go to the mall. Wait... what? He doesn't go to the mall? Get outta town!! Man, if only I could stay away from the mall I could be an all American too!

I think he spends mot of his free time in counseling for his mental short comings!

Lol! Damn you AJ Ferrari and your big muscles, cocky straight-back saunter and huge DEADLIFT!! I bet you he has a really hot girlfriend just to make me feel more inferior. I can't believe he is from Texas. He is tailor made for the Jersey SHore!! Pauly D hi-hair and everything!
Uh, Ferrari IS New Jersey.

Actually, I think he would find San Diego much more appealing. He'd definitely fit in quite well with the younger crowd there..

Conditioning and endurance for Beard are still an issue. Really like his offense for a 197 pounder, but has too many gas tank-induced lapses where he gets careless and gives up easy points. If he can ever get his conditioning to where it needs to be, look out. But of course, that's much easier said than done.

AGREED! The man is STRONG! He is one of the few PSU wrestlers that actually look bigger than their competition. We always look smaller than our competition but Bearsd is a big motha! Just needs to more on his wind. Time to RUN and hit the Airdine Bike for 2 hours a day!

You know what's funny about Beard? His cardio genetics suggest he has a pretty high ceiling for developing a limitless gas tank. His older brother is an elite swimmer. I think a combination of a full season and learning to pace himself better is going to go a long way for him.
Instead of learning to pace himself I would rather he learned the Zain approach. Someone ask Zain at one of the year end get together if he ever gets tired. He answered (paraphrasing) oh yeah, sometimes I feel it. My opponent always seems to be feeling it more so it's all good.

PSUers wrestling in the Finals:

133 Final: RBY vs. Daton Fix (Okla. St.)

141 Final: Nick Lee vs. Jaydin Eierman (Iowa)

174 Final: Carter Starocci vs. Michael Kemerer (Iowa)

184 Final: Aaron Brooks vs. Trent Hidlay (North Carolina St.)

The Matches are starting with the 133 Championship, so RBY will be in the first match of the evening.

There’s been a void these past couple of days due to the absence of our board sage, El Jefe. Here’s hoping everything is ok.
Wedding anniversary weekend, still married. Pretty sure he has his attention focused where it needs to be.

AWESOME Job Beard!!!!!!!!
He has all the tools to be a National champion in the future, needs to work on 3 things in my opinion to get there

1. Expand that Gas Tank
2. React better(quicker, or anticipate better) to his opponents shots
and
3. Expand that Gas tank

0. Mat and time awareness - hopefully someone is keeping track of the points he has given away on the edge of the “cylinder” and in short time. Twice in that last match alone he gave up points in the last 5 seconds of a period. If he cDNA learn to just hold position in short time and not relax on the edge, he would have won a couple of more matches.

I agree he is missed. He always has something good to say not to mention the gifs he comes up with. Hope all is well. In my prayers jefe

Does anyone know if ESPN archives the championships immediately or anything? There’s a possibility I will miss the first hour, and I would rather not catch the second half of it without seeing the beginning. I would much rather wait until after the whole thing is over tonight, and then watch it on replay immediately (on ESPN3 or something).

I don’t have DVR/Tivo

All of last nights semi-finals were on YouTube within minutes of completion

Against Rivera last night, I saw a laser focus in Lee, above and beyond what I had seen before. If he brings that to the mat tonight, he will be tough to beat, period!
Yep and if rby uses his speed and doesn't lock up he can take fix down at will. We shall see. I'm hoping Cael is pulling the zen card right now and getting them all into the FUN mode. It's what we do

Before the finals in Cleveland legend has it Bo told Cael his plan was to let Martin take him down a couple times in the first to give them hope, and then pin him in the second. Cael thought Bo should come up a better plan.
So the zen card called for Bo to be taken down to his back to really give them hope, then grab the chin with an elevator.

That zen card is powerful.

NL is clearly laser focused. JE is Bo like.......I thought Nick had a TD in the BTF, then JE cuts the corner and gets one of his own. The kid from NCST had a good shot and ended up on his back. 100% committed shot or nothing. I would like to see someone make JE have to be the aggressor.

Going to be wild. Our team is definitely in the Saturday Night mode.

Might be interesting to add statistics for number of tournament qualifiers and average years experience per qualifier for schools having finalists.
