2021 Olympic Wrestling Match Thread and USA Wrestlers.

As a Dake hater this absolutely blows. I finally am forced to root for the guy and he doesn’t consider my feelings and loses. Badly.

Twitter is abuzz with Dake to NLWC rumors. Hopefully Jacked Nolf is the future of 74 KG. Dake didn’t look quite himself— never seen him get horsed around like that before. Speed didn’t kill brute force did.

——-
What Gable is doing is insane. Hope he keeps it up for Gold would be quite the story and then maybe becoming the next Rock isn’t that ridiculous.

Kadzimahamedau has to beat Chamizo in the morning to keep Dake's hope for a medal alive.

True story: the day before the PSU-Oregon Rose Bowl, 5 of us watched the Miami-Nebraska Orange Bowl in an Old Town Pasadena dive bar that made the Skeller look upscale.

If having to root for Miami -- and then them collapsing -- weren't bad enough, one overly friendly dude told us "I respect Penn State, but I **love** Notre Dame." And then he would not shut up about Notre Dame. For roughly an hour.

We grudgingly tolerated that dude until Miami collapsed. Then we had to leave, before we shoved a bar stool up that guy's ass.

In his railsplitter days, Abe was a local legend as a wrestler.

Steveson's semifinal opponent. Note: Kerk reference below

Defeated 2016 Olympian Aiaal LAZAREV (KGZ) 8-2 in quarterfinals, then clinched ticket to Tokyo with 9-0 victory over Tetsuya TANAKA (9-0) that included six stepouts. Lost 4-2 in final to Yusup BATIRMURZAEV (KAZ)...In 2019, bronze medalist along with Batirmurazaev at World U-23 Championships. Lost 3-2 in 1st round to Vitalii GOLOEV (RUS), won two repechage matches, then defeated Daniel KERKVLIET (USA) 4-4 in bronze-medal match...Lost to Batirmurazaev by fall in final of 2019 Asian U-23. In round-robin group match, scored fall over Mohammad MORADI (IRI) after trailing 1-7....Bronze medalist at 2019 Baikal Open and 2019 Takhti Cup...2017 Asian junior silver medalist behind Khasanboy RAKHMINOV (UZB).

Shock and Awe, truly.

Dake and Gable,

What more can be said. I was in the Dake is in the conversation for the P4P best in the world.

Dake down 6-0 is like DT being down 15-0 if that was even possible. He knows his style and he’s not some insane scorer like DT. With his style, one mistake, and he can’t comeback. Bit him in the ass tonight unfortunately. He was done after 6-0.
Hope he gets taken into bronze but what are the odds of that?

Not a ringing endorsement for the new Cornell head coach Mike Grey. Not only was Dake super unprepared, the opponent read Dake like a children’s book, but Grey looked lost in his corner SEVERAL times.
That’s exactly what I saw. I think John Smith wanted to jump into that corner a few times - he was very frustrated with what he was seeing

Re: Dake. It must be a horrible shock when your opponent keeps stuffing your favorite position and favorite move. Have you guys ever experienced that? Were you able to successfully respond in real time?

As much as I am happy for Snyder, it is a shame when brackets are this skewed. Some great wrestlers will be going home without a medal primarily because of where they fell in the bracket. Intermat recently had an article on the Unbalanced Bracket that UWW has employed since 2005. The article was mentioned somewhere on this Forum recently, but I couldn't locate that original post. The conclusion of the author of the Intermat article was that the Unbalanced Bracket generally has not produced such skewed brackets like we see in Kyle's case. That conclusion aside, in this particular case the Unbalanced Bracket will definitely be affecting who goes home with a medal. I have attached the Intermat article for reference since I am in no way doing justice to the author's thorough research or his conclusions. The Unbalanced Bracket

Dake used plenty of gas in his first bout. Don't know if that was it but he looked sluggish.

Credit to his opponent, too.
Dake’s opponent is a better counter-puncher than Dake is. Took a page right from Dake’s book and stuffed it in his mouth. That 6-0 sequence was probably the worst 25 seconds in his wrestling career

Dake can cover-up some offensive shortcomings with brut strength, but this guy was right there with him and more. Didn’t expect to see that. I was hoping for 4 golds and a bronze for the US. 3 golds and 2 bronze will do

I totally get that. However, when our wrestlers have to deal with below average officials that Foley never found the time to address, I appreciate any break that the USA can get in the Olympics.

Nope. He didn't even attempt a shot in the whole 6 minutes. You 100% are not going to beat Dake if you don't attempt a single shot. He's just too good defensively.
Problem is if you shoot on Dake and get to his leg, he bounces on your head before he takes you down. Not shooting ends the same as shooting, Dake wins and you save yourself the embarrassment of having him bounce up and down on your head.

Chamizo up now. The BLR guy has to beat him for Dake to be pulled back
BLR up 2-1 at break. A TD for him and a pushout for Chamizo
