2021 Olympic Wrestling Match Thread and USA Wrestlers.

The push out however is not called with consistency. Guys will drop down last second and avoid a point. Taylor instead gets a caution and 1 for it. Not entirely wrong, just not consistent at all.
I think he got hit for it because he'd done it once before in the match, clearly attempting to avoid a step out, and was lucky to avoid getting hit for it. I'm not faulting DT for taking advantage of the rule rarely being called correctly, but it should be called more often.

You mean like current USA Olympic wrestler Ildar Hafizov? Previously represented Uzbekistan in the Olympics. No country is going to turn down a world class competitor, not even the USA. We probably have a few other imports in sports that we are not particularly strong at.
Go over to Track and Field. Many of the distance runners come from East African countries but are now citizens/represent other countries including the US. The gold medalist in the men’s pole vault is from Lafayette, Louisiana but represented Sweden. The women’s 100 H gold medalist is from South Carolina but represented Puerto Rico. This happens all the time in all sports.

15:30 mark.
Perfect. This wasn’t what I was looking for but it’s way better for this purposes. Thanks so much.

Not a good look for a journalist. Give Yaz a break. He just lost a heartbreaker for a gold medal at the Olympics. He demonstrated great sportsmanship on the mat, in front of the cameras in an agonizing loss. This comment reminds me of mother who is recording the kid her son just beat crying in the bleachers at a novice tournament.

All other schools are at a huge disadvantage when recruiting against Cael. Now they see not only will his collegiate program help them reach their dreams but now they wont have to go anywhere else when it's time to fulfill those World and Olympic dreams. And they laughed all of us of their board (HR) several years back when we told them Cael was beginning to take on the second step of his plan and that was to not only have the best college program but to have the best club.

Hate for everyone else (not really) but it's now so easy to see why kids wrestle for less and PSU doesnt have to dish out big to full scholarships to its athletes.
Current high school blue chipper: “When I’m at PSU, do you suppose I might be invited to Paris like Carter Starocci and Aaron Brooks were invited to Tokyo? Where do I sign?”

Yazdani's tantrum was nothing like the one Flo threw when they lost Willie.

Just rewatched Thomas's rebroadcast on The Olympic Channel. Several times on his shots with the single leg, the Iranian tried to hip back into him to get exposure. Thomas would have none of it. My lord was he prepared. Best match I have ever seen him wrestle especially with what was at stake.

As posted above, also congratulations to Jordan and to Aaron.

These are the times (Eastern times) I saw listed on an Olympic website:

Kyle S. 1/8 finals 11:19 pm tonight

men's 65 kg and 97 kg and women's 50 kg semis 5:15 am tomorrow (Fri)

Maybe I'm looking through Red/White/Blue glasses, but it seems the Americans are willing to take more chances. Many of the international wrestlers are content to hold center and win 2-0 on a passivity call and pushout.

Even Gilman moved away from his under-hooks and pushouts. He was firing off a lot more leg attacks than I remember.

Maybe a generalization on my part, but there has been a lot of exciting wrestling and much of it from USA wrestlers.... both men and women.

Dude thinks Taylor is inferior to Yazdani bc he’s an Iowa homer and hates Penn State wrestling

Yeah, said Iowa fan is still hanging onto the 1st 5 minutes of their matches.

David is 3-0 after 6 minutes, whatever he needs he gets, end of discussion.

Absolutely love that with all of DTs technique, leverage, ankle picks, etc….. it was a goddamn blast double at the bell that got it done!

congrats David Tayler , Olympic Champion!
Taylor said it in a later in a post-match interview -

With 15 seconds left, down by 1 against an incredible wrestler, technique goes mostly out the window. At that point it's mostly about heart and desire, and just finding a way.

Unrelated question. Someone here recommended a good pizza parlor awhile back in punxy. Since I went in to work late this morning to watch the matches I'm gonna be stuck eating dinner here. If you read this, let me know the name again.
