2021 World Championships

Are they still laughing at me over there? Told them 2 or 3 years ago that now that Cael has propelled PSU into the best college program in the country that his next task was to turn the NLWC into the premier club in the country in turn making the HWC pretty much an also ran. Are they still laughing and calling me an idiot?
don't we laugh at you here ?

a

i don’t think they spend as much time worrying about what the people over here think as you do.
No... I dont think they do even a little bit. However, they do care what we think when we go over there though. I think they've cried enough to their mod to get rid of us to solidify that one...

To beat 6 for 6, you need a little more than 6 out of 10.
got go with what crablegs said , to me he just cemented himself as the greatest US freestyle wrestler. Now I look forward to this conversation in a few years depending how long DT , Dake and Kyle wrestle (though KS has a tough road with Sad there)

What does Smith do if wrestling longer was more financially viable back in his day. I’m thinking better than 4 additional bronzes
Maybe, but we have no clue. I give credit for the longevity. By that logic, how does Cael do if he wrestles 10 more years? Maybe he’s the best. Since I can’t predict what could of happened, I go by results only. Two guys have 6 golds, one of them also has 4 more medals. Which is more accomplished? The answer is clear.

Also, let’s remember how different the world is now than them. Smith lost a match in pool competition the same year he went on to win the world title. If there were pools now maybe Burroughs has 7 golds instead of 6. How about if Smith had to go through multiple Russians instead of just one?

been hanging onto that one for a while, huh? lol

when he beats a good international or world-level domestic guy, he'll get plenty of credit from me. he's been on the scene for a few years now and is right where he started, 3rd or 4th on the ladder and has never made a trials finals.

His dogs get a shout out. Like I said, lots of great stuff in that pc.
TG has really grown on me since he came over to NLWC and reignited his love for wrestling. He seems like he's really matured and is grateful for the opportunities that he's been given. He almost sounds like a PSU wrestler in that PC. Congrats and well done Thomas Gilman, 2021 57 kg World Champion!

Not sure Pyles is correct.
Russia also has a bronze match @ 70 tomorrow.

don't have time to look it up but i assume the 1st-2nd difference is more than 3+(3rd-5th difference), so even if the russian takes 3rd, if kyle wins then the USA wins.

In addition, the Olympics became a lot more difficult with only 6 weight classes. It became more difficult to make the team (see Burroughs this year) and the talent had to be crunched into fewer weight classes (see Burroughs in 2016).

copied from another forum:

If Elahi (70kg) and Goleij both win Bronze and Sad beats Snyder Iran wins.

Russia need to win Bronze at 70kg and Sad to beat Snyder.

If Snyder beats Sadulaev, the US wins.

I think Green will end up with a couple placement points too which helps account for it.

Sad v Snyder. Who ya got js?

Maybe I’m a huge homer but I think Snyder bears Sadulaev tomorrow and with it USA wins the team title. Sanderson and crew get their athletes to peak better than almost anyone I’ve ever seen in any sport. Kyle is going to be ready and Sadulaev will have a slight let down after his Olympic title. 3-1 Snyder. Of course there is a great chance I look like a fool tomorrow but I want everyone to throw out their prediction for this huge match!!

I’m gonna take Snyder. I’m hoping Sads is prime for a letdown after winning the Olympics and Snyder is even more motivated now to take it to him.
Letdown is my big hope. I think skill for skill Sadulaev is on another level and if Kyle is going to win he has to gas him like the first time. I'm hoping Sadulaev took his training too lightly or took too long of a lay off post-olympics. On the other hand, it would be surprising if he did that and still showed up, so I'm not feeling optimistic.

He has to come up with an answer for those tilts from the chest wrap position. They don't look like much but they're two points every time and Sadulaev hit them against Snyder without much resistance.
I think Snyder’s answer is to hand fight hard for the entire first period. No low level attacks. Hopefully it’s 1-1 middle of the second with Snyder holding criteria. If that’s the case then Sadulaev has to open up which plays into Kyles strength with his go behinds and reattacks. If it’s swapped and Kyle is down late in the second he still needs to shoot a high crotch or a high single where he can’t get caught underneath. Being underneath Sadulaev is a death sentence

I think the goal should be to be as heavy on his head as possible and wrestle a high pace, but limit your own exposure. Keep yourself within 3-4 until the final 1:30 and hope he fades.

I think Snyder’s greatness has been getting overlooked lately with Gable and DT winning Olympic gold and with Kyle losing two in a row to Sadulae. I know I’m guilty of it. But if he wins tonight he is on pace to be the best US wrestler of all time. He is only 25 and already has 6 Olympic or World medals with 3 golds, 2 silver, and 1 bronze. Winning tonight and having 4 golds with 2 of them over the wrestler than many consider the best of all time would put him right back in the conversation of being the goat. In my eyes he would still be behind John Smith and JB but again he is only 25 years old!!! He has at least another 5 years of high end wrestling left in him. His match tomorrow his huge for his legacy!

I agree with this. But part of the reason he’s being overlooked is because it is difficult to see him winning another gold medal. If he can find a way to beat Sadulaev again he is definitely on track to be the US goat. If he’s always bronze or silver for the next 5 years, he won’t have the golds to be in the conversation.

The medal round starts around noon tomorrow. this match will be the last one of that round though.
I believe they will do women's after mens so 97kg is the second set of weights. So if that is true Synder vs Sad will be the 6th match contested, as they are doing one mat.

The thing you complain about (ref inconsistency) happens MUCH MORE with stalling than passivity.

Agree to disagree.
I think I'm the one who first brought up passivity and I have no problem with it I just have questions about it at times. In folk it's pretty obvious at times who is stalling. In free style I swear to God Everytime I think a guy should get called for passivity the other guy gets called for it lmfao. I shit you not I think it has been helpful with people on here explaining the break away American wrestlers typically use to get some space and that makes sense since they are not keeping contact they are being passive. I'm learning. Wasn't much of a free style fan a couple years ago but I'm loving it now lol
