2025-26 PSU Roster/Lineup thread

Yeah put that skinny kid against people that have 20lbs of muscle over him, we will ser just how good his gas tank is.

I am NOT predicting this, neither am I suggesting this, BUT, do you guys think maybe Mitch and Levi switch weights next season? I realize it's very rare for any of our guys to go down a weight, but I am wondering if Mitchell and Levi do a switch next season that sets them up for future freestyle strategies?

Feel free to weigh in...
No

I don’t see how , in person Levi just looks full sized 174 and bigger than Mitch. Even if they wanted to I don’t see how Levi makes that cut.

No way Mitch is going to a non-Olympic weight. He's a 74kg guy.
I could see him going 174 next year after Levi graduates, partly because of the Kasak/Duke logjam but also because he seems to not cut much for 165 which makes him a small 74kg internationally. It could benefit him to wrestle 174 as his walk around (especially because he will beat everyone at that weight anyway) so he is a more filled out 74kg. A lot of those international guys are massive for that weight class and will make MM look small

The offseason has now officially begun.

All this talk of lineup… what’s the roster? Tops out at 30 now…

125: Lilledahl, Desmond
133 Davis, Nagao, Nasdeo, Garcia, Shindledecker
141: Blaze, Ono, Cunningham, Weiss
149: Van Ness, Pierce, Rodriguez, Perry
157: Kasak, Watson, Duke
165: Mesenbrink, Sealey, Cunningham
174: Haines, Gibson, Borden
184: Ryder, Welsh
197: Barr, Mirasola, Cochran, Henckel
285: Mirasola, Bundy

I count 32 there and I might be missing a couple. I didn’t include guys in the portal.

Thought Gibson was done?

Cochran is done (got introduced on senior day), he didn't portal either so I think he's just moving on with life.

I can see Asher greyshirting similar to Hayden.

Heck of a wrestler.
Wouldn't be shocked if he changed his mind later (coaches will contact him) He beat an AA heavyweight and was very close in his wrestleoff with Barr (Josh got a 7 point throw) Since he was the initial starter for PSU against Drexel, some rumblings he won the "in house" wrestleoff as well. He also made the U23 86 Finals (before getting hurt)

No. Levi will put a few more pounds on and Mitch will stay. Come 2028 Mitch will be competing for the 74 kg (163 pound) spot and Levi the 86 kg (190) spot. I expect them to compete at a weight that fits that long term goal.

I already know this will never happen but if it somehow does this sets me up for early preseason bonus points for the "Shithouse luck blind squirrel" award, which is completely up for grabs this year 😂

someone on the board said he is staying at PSU (Smeal) for Grad School but is done with wrestling. I could see him being convinced to do some NLWC stuff but also when its time its time

I could definitely see Cael adding a heavy. Not enough depth and young at that.

And yet pretty much everyone on here said he didnt look quite right..at multiple times down the stretch. Obviously he looked completely normal has last number of matches and the PSU coaches and training staff would know best. That said, once you have a couple concussions they can happen easier going forward without a long period of rest. Look at Tua Tagovailoa. I was just wondering if long term it makes more sense
he was off and on all season the reason no one knows I am sure the DR checked him out really good and kept an eye on him!

I think Blaze and Ono both start. One at 33 and one at 41.

Good list of guys, and they all contributed in one way or another and I'm grateful to them for that. But it looks quite obvious who might have to leave at certain weights. It's a shame we are so deep at almost every weight, but so thin at 285.

They are both one injury away. Why doesn't anyone seem to understand this?

Of course, everyone here knows that, but it's not as easy to encourage and convince a young All American to sit because "we're only one injury away from needing you". I'm a pretty level-headed PSU wrestling fan and I don't make a habit of getting too wound up about things that I don't/can't control. I hope that both Nagao and Davis make the most of their time at PSU, whatever that entails, and I hope that neither ever regret the time they spent at PSU, but PSU is simply at the point where some high-end kids are going to have to consider transferring to other programs if they wish to "be the guy". I think almost everyone on this board hope that Nagao and Davis both stay, but will understand if one or both end up portaling out for one reason or another.

We get worked up. It's just what we do. We can speculate all we want, but it isn't important until next fall. As we get there and things begin to take shape we will begin to see what's what. At least up to a point. No sense in getting too worked up. For all we know before next season starts Cael will have invited Dan Gable to wrestle 141 and Wade Schalles 174 so both could get that year the NCAA rules stole from them.

So you expect AA caliber kids to sit around hoping for an injury to be able to start when there are many other top programs for which they could walk in and start right away and compete at nationals? That's crazy, and that's what I don't understand.

PSU *IS* going to lose multiple very high level kids who want to start and can't in this room. It's just a matter of who, when, and to where, but there will be guys that leave. I suspect most will look like Facundo where they give it a couple years and if it's not looking like there is a clear path to a starting spot (again, without having to sit and hope for an injury), they'll go where there is one. I suspect Nagao is currently looking at the writing on the wall, and if he doesn't leave before this year, if he doesn't come out of the season with a starting spot, he'll leave before next year to start somewhere and shoot his shot. Sealey is another where there doesn't appear to be a clear path. I don't think he's leaving this year, but if he's still blocked by multiple people after this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go as well (especially if Rocco takes command of 184 and forces Ryder down into a competition with Sealey, Henckel, and Asher for one spot at 174 next year, or even worse for him, if MM moves up to 174 for his last season to make room for both Duke and Kasak in the lineup and then there are no spots for any of the four of them). Of course, who knows, maybe Sealey makes a huge leap this year, and it forces Ryder or Henckel out instead (he does have that talent/pedigree). I don't know the who exactly when we're dealing with a surplus of guys who are all elite talent "can't miss" hammers, I just know that there will be guys.

Zach on the Locked On podcast thinks there’s a chance Josh Barr is looking to go 184…his point was that Ryder may be leaving because it’s a 3 person race for 184 between Josh, Rocco and Zach.

Guessing it’s pure speculation on his part

Barr going 184 creates its own set of potential issues with Welsh coming in. I'm sure many are getting more popcorn ready.

I expect Mirasola to cut down to 184 now? Honestly I could see the twins in the portal this year or next. I was surprised Cael didn’t go after the Campbell HW for that reason honestly and because it doesn’t look like the bigger Mirasola is quite ready to finish high on the podium unless he’s gotten a good bit bigger. Not sure if there’s any HW’s in the portal now that you would take over him tho.
I hate the portal as well. Already ruined the main two sports but the one exciting thing about it is when the seasons over it gives you something interesting to talk about.

Well Zach seyko put an end to all this AJ stuff , He "check his sources " said noway penn st is interested in AJ i guess same sources that said Ono not wrestling folk. Also he said Barr is now going down to 184 , why , Its his natural weight. Also Conner Mirasola is going 197 and his brother is going at hwt. So their you have it , I mean the guy has sources.

Barr going back to 184 is almost the only way I can wrap my head around it all. Maybe Mirasola is that good. I saw him take down AB at the trials…
