2025-26 PSU Roster/Lineup thread

Even with all of the latest Portal announcements, I still have the roster at 35 (keeping Zach for the moment :) ).

Is indeed PSU expected to cap at 30 next season?

PS - I still show Levine and Lee, so there is two likely reductions

So roster analysis, we had 36 kids last year

Out of eligibility: Starocci, Kerkvliet, Levine, McHenry, Cochran (he was introduced on senior day), Beckett, Bartlett, Wang, Dunbar, Lee
Portal: Gibson, Shindledecker, Evans, Ryder, Fricchione

That gives us room for 9 additions, we have
Duke, Blaze, Ono, Welsh, Asher, Henckel, Perry, Desmond

That gives us room for 1 more addition unelss I am missing someone or got something wrong up top

EDIT: Facundo and Steen were not on the 36, guessing they were removed when they portaled and there was a delay in some of the others.

Where are Facundo and Sheen accounted? They were on last years roster and not on your Portal list

Appears you are correct. 1 slot open. This was taken from Dice's spreadsheet with Ryder removed and Welse/Ono added.

Room for AJ makes 30 lol.

Barr going back to 184 is almost the only way I can wrap my head around it all. Maybe Mirasola is that good. I saw him take down AB at the trials…
He also lost to Barr 11-0 at the Black Knight. I dont see any reason to move the NCAA runnerup down a weight to compete with Ryder & Welsh.

The Mirasola twins seem all in .... I have a feeling a brother vs brother wrestleoff is inevitable at 285 unfortunately.

Or any reason Barr would want to cut back down to 184.

We have a returning national finalist, and some people are seriously thinking he might cut 15 lb because it's the offseason.
Exactly. Some just can’t see the forest for the trees. 😳

Mirasola posted pictures on IG today of him training with Carter. Carter reposted it and called him a future national champ. The fa t that he is talking about him like that suggests that Connor will try to find his way into the lineup this year

As opppaed to Mirasola not trying to win a spot?

I'm looking for Barr to turn more of his weight into muscle this off season and look "bigger" next season, as he seemed to need more muscle in the final. He looks to have the frame for it.

Just natural maturation should mean more muscle. I expect you'll see a different animal next fall.

I wasn't a college athlete, yet I went from being an unnatural 167 pounds as a freshman after running my butt off all summer to being 208 by the time I graduated 4.5 years later (yeah I was on the 5 year plan) and my access to weights during the summer was Sears Orbatrons in the basement and "nutrition" meant a small fries with the whopper.

I though "small fry" was just a term of endearment, I never realized people actually ate them.

Anyone know what the timeline would be for final decision on how many years of eligibility Ono has? I've heard as few as one, but more likely two.

I think right now 2 but they're trying to claw back more (similar to Riley Thompson with the football team) I'm not sure when he enrolled in college but that should start it also.

Ono entered Japan Nationals in 2022 as his first senior event, so I think 2023 would count as his first year. He's used 3 years, under 5 to wrestle 4 clock rules, he should have 2 without a redshirt.

I think @CSauertiegPSU posted some precedent to get him 4 years basically but hard to tell if he would even be interested in wrestling college folk for that long.

I hear the information on the eligibility, just wondering when it gets decided ... Is that a Fall (classes resume) thing or might we know earlier. I guess it's an NCAA timeline thing?

Is it correct that Ono is now back in Japan and will stay focused on Free until after worlds or is he training for Free here until later this summer? I thought I heard the prior.

I am only asking as it seems his real work on folk style mat wrestling won't begin until the early fall? Lots to learn in a couple of months, but I have little doubt it will matter much.

Something about his visa, he had to return to Japan and apply for a longer term visa.
He'll be here before the schedule comes out.

What about an Olympic Redshirt for the past? If AJ Focus got one for not even training or participating in any Olympic events, Ono would qualify easily. But getting him 2 years, would still be the icing on the cake.

Definitely would qualify. So really could have 3.
