2026 Recruiting underway

If you're worried about Cael prioritizing getting one high schooler over the chemistry of his entire team, I would say .... why? I think he knows what he's doing and what conversations to have.
I 100% agree but can you agree that fans might have some valid concern in this realm? In Cael We Trust

Do we think Brandt Harer follows his bro. If so Rutgers is getting another good one.
I'd be floored if he doesn't. Would be nice for a Joey/Marcus Blaze situation where little brother doesn't follow by default but I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. I also don't think the dad likes PSU.

Rutgers will put the full press on getting the other brother. Rutgers has a real good recruiting class coming in. I wonder if they can build off it? Steve Mytych is a great recruiter and he is relentless getting PA kids.

Of course...just like every other college coach in the country. The question in my mind is to what degree. A talent like Bo can command full scholly and loads of NIL. If that's what is most important to Bo then I'm sorry, I don't think Cael will be looking to dish out what a lot of other college coaches will.

Also, I believe there are other recruits that Cael would like to have just as much if not more than Bo. Blaze and Jax are the two I'm thinking. I admit I could be totally wrong on all this but I just don't think Cael is salivating over him like everyone else is. He had Nick Lee call the kid for crying out loud. For all we know, Cael was on another line with Jax. Lol
I think talent wise we just signed about 3 Bo Bassetts

Just my opinion. One way PSU loses Bassett is if an Iowa or tOSU offers Bo a very big NIL deal. I just don't think Cael is into offering incoming freshman a big "bag" as the young kids say. I think Bo will go with the money and still believe he can be a multiple time national champ. I wouldn't blame him if he did.

Cael knows what he is doing is a great, simple point you wouldn't think necessary to make. Yet, brilliantly put and necessary.

Like McScoreley stated above. Not sure what you don’t see in this kid. To say you don’t think Cael is all in is absurd. Yes Jax and Blaze are unreal too, we want this PA born and raised monster to stay home. You are from Johnstown, just curious why you aren’t excited for Bo. Do you know him personally.
As a fan, I would love to see all there here but the reality is Jax is from NC and trains a lot at Oklahoma state. He will end up there. Blaze is Ohio and will end up with Tan Tom. Do we need Bo to win, no but he seems like a humble, good character super star. We left Spencer leave for Iowa. I hope we lock Bo down. I see Bo making the easy and right choice. Is money a factor, probably alittle bit but I am sure being the best wrestler he can be is the biggest factor.

I don't know how I can be more clear in saying the kid is a stud and EVERY coach in the country wants him. Pretty much all I've been saying is Cael is the one coach that won't sweat it if he doesn't get him. When all you guys were pissing and moaning...questioning why we didn't get guys like Spencer Lee and Chance Marestellar, Cael went about his business winning championships.

Btw, I don't give a shit what state a kid wrestled at in high school. When they go to PSU they become "family" to all of us. You think I'm gonna be pulling for Bo if he goes to Iowa? Pfft...

Lastly, I don't have Bo as the number one recruit. I like Jax better. It's ok if you disagree. I'll step back now and watch how it all plays out. I don't think things are gonna work out the way you think they will tho.. You have your opinions...I have mine.

To build on this, consider the kid is already in a system that works, extraordinarily well. Does he need the college or doe$ the college need him?

Here's my take for what it's worth. From looking at past recruits, has there ever been a recruit that felt or looked like they were bigger than the team? I can't seem to find one. Even the best of the best that we recruited all seemed to fit nicely into the PSU team aspect I would say. with the exception being Suriano and even he was part of the team until the injury. Having said that, Black and Jax come off as guys that fit in well and aren't as big as self promoters as Bassett. That's not to say Bassett isn't worth going after but I get the feeling Cael isn't going to push hard for somebody that doesn't fit. Bo may end up at PSU but I don't see him being the face of the program but rather one of many faces of the program. If he can do that welcome aboard. If not I'll go with team chemistry Everytime.

From exactly what you said, is what makes me feel like Bassett does not choose PSU or PSU does not pursue Bassett hard. I think Bassett wants to be the face of a program(nothing wrong with that). PSU is not the place you go where you want to be the face. It's a place to be part of the team and the big picture.

I am confused. Who is black?

RBY was marketing himself before NIL, because he wanted to hit the ground running after college. He fit just fine.

Now everybody gets that you need to market yourself. Well, everybody but the fans, who get it in theory but not it in practice.

There is no evidence that Bassett has been anything short of a model teammate. So hypothesizing that he won't fit is PSU Doom Looping.

Brooks Black. Cael said he has no shot.
Funny enough, I wrestled him in a FS tournament at Lock Haven. He beat me like a drum lol. One match later I got choked out in a front headlock by one of the Stout brothers out of Brookville because the ref didn’t see my face turning blue and me going limp. My brother and teammate were ready to deck the official for not paying attention

He must of been right, i have no idea who he is.
Brooks Black HS career:

  • Three-time Beast of the East Champion at 285 pounds
  • Three-time Ironman Champion
  • Three-time National Prep Champion
  • Two-time Powerade Champion
  • Cheesehead Champion
  • Two-time Asics All-American
  • Eighth wrestler in Beast of the East history to win three titles; first wrestler to ever win all three titles in the heavyweight class
  • Second wrestler in American wrestling history to win a combined six titles between the Beast of the East and Ironman tournaments

College career at Illinois was shortened due to injuries. Two time qualifier.

Injuries but also a lack of quick twitch athleticism. Cael was spot on with his evaluation.

Adding onto this: Black wrestled at Blair and was the #1 HWT in the country in his last 2 years of HS, which is pretty rare.

As the legend goes, Black worked out with NLWC. Afterward Cael supposedly said "he has no shot."

Whether he meant Black's technique or his college title hopes wasn't clear. At the time Flo had volumes of non-paywalled Black matches, and whaddayaknow, he NEVER took a shot in any of them. He was a Greco guy and had a pretty good arm drag, and was exceptional at falling on top of HS HWTs when they lost balance. After that, arm bar and quick pin.

He lost at Dapper Dan to Nazareth state champ Aaron Bradley, and then his Illinois career. So yeah, whichever interpretation, both proved true.

I wonder how many recruits working out in the room on a visit have failed that eye test.

Partly an eye test, more to it though. They know exactly what they are looking for in those room competitions and if you think you know and ask, expect a merry-go-round answer. The answer to the number of recruits who have not passed that eye test is higher than most of us think.

Adding to this. Look at who’s the co-head coach of the high school the Raney’s go to. Union County High School (KY)

I believe Cael said something to the tune of "What leg attack does he have?"

There's our Mr Black! Did you see Union County HS states record in wrestling? They have won everything in sight since 2016, and almost everything since 2007.

Oh I have. They are on heck of a roll for a state that has one class and a public school of 550 students. They would have a longer streak but two years ago a regional foe upended them at state (Paducah Tilghman), a program Jason Nickal revived back from the dead. KY isn't a state known for wrestling but Union has sent many kids since 2007 to D1. Sometimes multiple a year. Stephen Little, 197 All-American for Little Rock is a notable one. Be nice to get Stephen Little as a transfer and might have positive influence on the Raney's recruitment.

Famous porn star in the 90s. Brooks Black, worked with co stars Dick Plummer and Dirk Diggler. Starred in "Log jammer", "Man Handlers 1 and 2", and ""Honey Drippin"
Guys, please try to space out the porn star references. I'm still working on "getting to know" Lisa Ann. I just don't have time for this shit...

I guess he was a wrastler than! Lol

I didn't read all the other posts before I posted this. Anyhow I didn't know either story and still don't know if him being a porn star in the 90's is credible but it made me smile.
