A National title with 1 champ, or take 2nd with 4 champs???

In a year plagued by delays, injuries, and illness when PSU wasn't expected to even field a competitive team, Cael Sanderson once again proves that he owns the secret formula for being ready for Natties! My head is spinning over those finals performances!

If I am an Iowa fan, I take the team title since they have not won it since 2010. It is a team sport. As a PSU fan, I am happy with the outcome and 4 champions, which is probably better for recruiting. I have a feeling that Brands isn't exactly happy right now, little bit of a pyrrhic victory.

THIS.

His 133 lb went off the rails earlier and is MIA. His 141 prize transfer lost to PSU tonight. His 157 married his daughter and lost to PSU. His 165 lost in the Quarters for the 3rd consecutive time. His 174 lost to PSU tonight. His nephew didn't make R12. And his 125 is chippy and injured. I think I'd be a little torqued off if I was Tom too.

Oh yeah, and because PSU.

Oh and seeing PSU crown these young guys must be killing Hawk fans after saying Spencer will be the difference maker when it comes to future recruiting. Yeah....no....sorry....Cael had his own plans.
I have joked for a couple years that upon graduation Spencer is moving to the NLWC so he can get better. Wouldn't it be humorous as hell if word leaked out in the next few weeks that Larry accepted a position of provost for academic affairs at Juniata College?

Exactly. Iowa hasn’t won a team title in a decade so they’ll obviously take it. Penn State has won, I honestly don’t even know how many, like 10 of the past 11? It’s definitely a great night for penn state. If you’re going to finish second then the next best thing is to damn near win half of the weights lol. Iowa had a nice two year run, maybe three if everyone comes back, but when SL leaves they’ll be right back where they were.

Most likely, at the end of Spencer's time at Iowa they will have won one national team championship.

... however the way it turned out PSU fans feel much better tonight than Iowa fans do,
I think it’s not just the absolute result that matters. It’s whether the guys wrested well and up to their perceived capabilities. Since Eierman and Kemerer were 1-seeds and had beaten Lee and Starocci before, their performances were worse than expected, and so their fans are not happy even with the team title. Conversely, if Eierman and Kemerer had been underdogs, Iowa fans would probably be plenty happy with the same exact result.

I would rather have 4!!! champions and take second!!!!
Good question, but kind of hard to answer. You would think that we got absolutely no contributions from anyone on our team other than the four champions. If that was the case I would rather be in Iowa’s position tonight. But, every wrestler for Penn State, except for Joe Lee, contributed at least two wins to the team score. Penn State only had one fewer All American than Iowa, and Brady Berge would have had a great shot at being an All American if he hadn’t been injured. Too be fair, Marinelli likely would have gained that status as well if he continued to wrestle. I am extremely proud of guys who didn’t win it all like Robert Howard, Michael Beard, Kerk, and Berge, so I guess to answer your question, I would rather be Penn State tonight. I guess when you have won 8 out of the last 10 contested championships you can feel that way. I suspect Iowa fans are probably very happy with finIshing first; because after watching Penn State tonight, they have to be feeling if not now, when?

I’d take the team title any day. But all things considered, I’m pleased with the team’s performance this weekend. Here’s to adjustments and developments to win the title next year.

Winning the team title is the ultimate goal but finals night has the most viewers and is much more about the individual wrestlers. PSU definitely scored a recruiting win last night and there are probably a number of causal fans that think they won the team championship, lol.

Last night I felt like we had just won the national championship. I can't remember the last time I was so pumped up, jacked up on adrenaline, and laying there in bed for 2 hours unable to fall asleep. Paying for it this morning. Still feel like I'd trade a team title for what we witnessed yesterday. And I'd tell any Iowa fan today and going forward that while they may haven gotten first place, we won the Tournament.

I just want the guys to have fun, and wrestle with the effort that is the result of their training. While last night was euphoric by the time Aaron was finished, and it was a finals to behold, the "event" is the crown jewel of wrestling, and winning IT is the goal of the coaches/program. Years from now, it'll be the team championship that will be remembered most by the masses, though we'll (PSU fans) have the very fond memories of having four champions.

Bottom line for me is that I'll not answer the question, except to say it's never going to be an either/or for me.
