A National title with 1 champ, or take 2nd with 4 champs???

Most likely, at the end of Spencer's time at Iowa they will have won one national team championship.

If Spencer wasn't lying in that horrible post match rambling interview he gave last night and he has TWO blown ACLS and he thinks that he can take actually take on a healthy Nick Suriano, Gilman and company in two weeks, he is DREAMING!!! They will rip him apart and permanently destroy his knees ! That means he will need both knees repaired after the Olympic trials. There is no way he will be ready to compete in CFB in 2022. His college career is over.

Not too late to jump

For me, I am enjoying that we won. Your program is elite and will be elite for the foreseeable future. I just don't think my Hawkeyes will be able to compete at your level for a while. We might be competitive with you next year, but after that the future is Penn State for at least 3 years. I wish more Hawk fans would enjoy the moment and not get so frustrated my your dominance in the finals.

I always love reading comments like some of these. It's like some of you tossed out the importance of winning the team title. It's an individual sport now right?

I feel bad that Kemerer and Eierman lost of course. That's a testiment to how good Lee and the young Starocci are. Marinelli can't catch a break and more ACL trouble for Spencer. Yeah a little bittersweet.

But I am glad to see the whole Hawkeye team put up points and take the title. That medal round for Iowa was legit. This should have happened a year ago and hopefully it does next year.. Go Hawks! We are here to stay even if you hate us ;)

(Oh and btw thank you for taking out Fix! I rather enjoyed that one)

For the record I don't hate Iowa or any team for that matter. I also don't hate or even dislike any wrestler. I do dislike the actions of some coaches and wrestlers and that includes coaches and wrestlers from all teams not just Iowa.

Also your first paragraph is a text book straw man argument, and therefore complete BS. No one is tossing out the importance of winning the team title, which is the ultimate goal for the team.

Way too many variables to proclaim which is better. I had a pretty large watch party at my house for the entire tournament. Fans who always go were forced to stay home and I have the big great room to host a group of hell raisers. There were three of us die hard Clone fans (plus me also being a PSU band wagon jumping Fan), 4 die hard Hawkeye fans, and one UNI guy who also likes Iowa but never cared for ISU. We all enjoyed the tournament and had several things everybody liked or hated.

Likes- 1. David Carr winning (the Iowa fans hated him mugging the PSU guys after wins but I loved it) 2. Daton Fix losing. Different reasons for all of us, but everyone was for RBY one way or another. 3. The Stanford unity. 4. Seeing sheets and Boo become AA. Both have had so many injuries and we all felt good for those guys. 5. Gannon making AA because he is an Iowa kid. Iowa is not PA when it comes to producing AA wrestlers. 6. The two freshman studs from UNI and Rutgers going at it. I'm no Rutgers fan but that kid at 184 is a real beast.

Hates- 1. Injuries. Sadness for BB, the bull, and several others. Nobody likes injuries and this group to a man wrestled enough to hate injuries. 2. The fact that we don't understand the takedown rule well enough to not be upset that Sasso wasn't awarded that 2. We all still think that was 2. I have no idea how we all ended up rooting for Sasso but we did. 3. AJ's blood game. The group has strong feelings both ways on like/dislike but even those of us wanting him to win don't like the blood stoppage he seems to be able to use as personal timeouts. It is like he has a few 20 second timeouts to freely use as he wishes in every match. 4. The damn review stoppages taking so long. I get wanting the calls right, but I wonder if we are effecting outcomes more often than the missed calls ever did. It really punishes the better conditioned wrestler.

The finals were a big deal as my buddy smoked a brisket and we had a real buffet going with food and drink. The Iowa fans were pretty smug after clinching and the rest of us were just hoping for the best. My two clone buddies jumped on the PSU wagon during the 141 match and the taunting began. The night rocked in every way I could have hoped. The Iowa fans didn't have nearly the fun I did. I think it reminds me of a vacation a bunch of my family took to Florida a few years ago. Great time but the last day we were on each others nerves enough it ruined the trip in many ways. I think the Iowa fans felt the trip was a little long by the end. They are very proud of the team title but Carter was the nail that sealed it as a not very fun night. The same Iowa fans that cheered for RBY because of Conference affiliation suddenly wanted the ACC to win at 184. It was fun. I am happy. David Carr is my hero and Carter is a legend. Iowa won the tournament but PSU absolutely won the most important part of the same tournament.

The title is probably better, BUT I know I had a Hell of a good time Saturday night and I’d say with some certainty that Penn State fans in general enjoyed Championship Saturday a LOT more than Iowa fans did, despite their title.

This is the 22nd year of the current scoring rules, which are used for the NCAA Championship, the Conference Qualification Tourneys, the Scuffle, and all other tournaments with team-scoring (the NLO was one, once upon a time), and a team champion. Also, similar points were awarded all the way back to 1979 (from 1st thru 8th: 16 – 12 – 9 – 7 – 5 – 3 – 2 – 1) . Prior to that, there were only 6 placers.

Not knowing all the mid-season tournaments that have team scoring, I'm still guessing it's been used over 500 times in those 22 years. And now all of a sudden because it doesn't fit someone's narrative, you want it changed?

The fact that Eierman is the current lead photo on the NCAA Wrestling home page makes me chuckle.

I would not want to be around that guy on a full moon!! That guy has hairy werewolf qualities! I was wondering whether it was Cody, Cael or Casey who had the pistol with the silver bullet in the gym bag if Eierman started to "transform" during the match?

Run Nick RUN!!! Casey take the SHOT!!!!!

I never said "you" hated anything.
And strawman? Come on. Tinman, snowman, Ironman, whatever you want to call it you have people that suddenly decided 4 individual titles is better than A team Title. Thats why this thread was created right? I was just noting that. No big deal. Time to move on

WildTurk,
It was just a couple PSU fans expressing delight in their team's finals performance. And it's on a Penn State forum where it belongs.

What I don't understand is why you felt a particular need to join the discussion in the antagonistic way you did.

You posted this right after I said you were a good man in your thread? Ouch.. You are such a softy! God bless you

I don't know if you remember me in the past dozen years or so on these forums but I am pretty tame now. Take me for what I am as I age on the forums! Or don't. "ignore" is always an easy option

"Just a couple PSU fans expressing delight" -love it Roar! You always present things so gently lol.
I'll leave you with a quote from my son's book(used to be mine)

“Be who you are and say what you feel because the ones who mind don't matter, and the ones who matter don't mind.”

Dr Seuss

Well I spent some time on HR and read this little gem,

"I were a kid watching I’d rather be a skilled Iowa wrestler than a decent psu wrestler with a great game plan. The Brands’ will adapt and be better for it or they’ll be gone but kids saw excellent wrestling from Iowa and excellent preparation from psu."

So I suppose the opinion is our wrestlers are not as good, but are game planned better. What I don't understand is that isn't this coaching, and if it is, why can't the Iowa Staff game plan better, i.e. coach better?

BTW I feel dirty for being there.

Sounds like something someone might have said about 24 years ago.

The posts just get better! Happy Sunday.
Your posts in this thread would be more convincing had an actual Hawk fan not come in and admit that he would have rather seen 4 champs than the team title. Seems like a legit conversation to me...

Let's also add that it doesnt help much when you see PSU overshadow the team titlists all night and ESPN pretty much making the Hawks an afterthought to most. It must be killing you to not be able to troll us by saying "it doesnt look like PSU was having f** Saturday night."

Iowa should try taking the PSU approach sometime and win multiple individual titles while also winning the team title. That way fanbases all over the United States would be talking about them instead of PSU.

I personally feel the team title is most important to the school and fanbase as a whole. To the guys on the mat doing the work, an individual title is most important.

It's weird, for sure, I'd rather win a team title. That being said, I can't explain why, but psychologically, I felt better on Saturday might than I did in 2016 and 2019. There's just something about perfection on Saturday night ESPECIALLY if you're counted out in about 3 of those matches.

Bo losing to MyMar absolutely took some joy out of my Saturday night. (Obviously Nolf lost earlier and Morgan would later lose his last shot ever to win a title) Maybe it's because the title was locked up and I enjoyed that already in the morning. Cenzo and Mark losing in 2019 definitely dampened my mood as well.

NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats winning a Team Title through Saturday night performances.

It's not just about the finals. I can't remember a year, going back a long ways, that I didn't have that empathy-wrenching feeling in my gut about wrestler's losses. This year it was for Howard, Berge, Lee, Beard and Kerkvliet -- and I couldn't help thinking about Bartlett during the tourney.

Thing is, that's life, and part of the growth, both wrestling-wise and life-wise for the wrestlers.

@RoarLions1 or anyone else, do you know who travelled with the team, just qualifiers? If so, is it because of Covid or is that normal? Just wondering if Beau was able to go and experience it.

HR is where one goes to become dumber on the subject of wrestling. Or more practiced at excuses, and better able to offer solid sounding rationalizations.

Edit: Just to clarify, this was not @Mat Burn posting. It was a clip from an HR thread, deep in the cesspool.

A team title is first but going 4 for 4 is a close second.

If Iowa is only winning one team title every 10 or 11 years, that ranks up there as well.

That's not a fence I'm on, far from it. I'm more on one side of your supposed fence than most, giving an opinion in this thread that winning the team championship is still the ultimate goal. But that's just one man's thoughts.
Cael said the same thing in his post tournament presser.
