A National title with 1 champ, or take 2nd with 4 champs???

@RoarLions1 or anyone else, do you know who travelled with the team, just qualifiers? If so, is it because of Covid or is that normal? Just wondering if Beau was able to go and experience it.
I believe only qualifiers went this year, as well as coaches and a couple administrators. That's who were on the plane when it arrived in State College.

Butthorn; if you're going to play the gif game with me and @jmadden1998 , you need to avoid the offensive verbiage. Just trying to coach you up a little. It's what we do at PSU.

I never said "you" hated anything.
And strawman? Come on. Tinman, snowman, Ironman, whatever you want to call it you have people that suddenly decided 4 individual titles is better than A team Title. Thats why this thread was created right? I was just noting that. No big deal. Time to move on
"Better" is probably the wrong word to use. I would say "more satisfying" as a fan instead. No one is (or at least no one should be) saying that PSU won or should be awarded the team title. Iowa won it, they deserved to win it, and that's great for their program, but if the question to me is whether I would rather see PSU win the team title with just one champion (and one for whom a loss would have been the biggest upset in the sport since Dan Gable lost...) or see them go 4-for-4 on Saturday in four thrilling matches including three upsets, even though they finish second overall, I'll take the four champions every time. That was one of the best nights of wrestling I've ever seen.

So, now, neither recruiting, nor preparation, makes one a good coach.
Winning a national championship bout doesn't even make you a great wrestler (if not wearing the appropriate singlet), nor the better wrestler.
What I hate about the CFP is all of the subjectively and "eye test" bullshit. HR and Mat burn apparently believe have them wrestle the match and we will vote on who looked like the better wrestler.

I felt so good last night after the Aaron Brooks match, knowing we had 4 National Champs that I would have enjoyed Billy Baldwin interviewing Kyle Dake through the entire Ferrari match. Oh on second thought ;)
Brilliant- single worst NCAA moment in wrestling of all-time. Dake - ewwww

Like Roar, I will leave the either or part of the question on the table and just say I will take 4 champs every year and let the team standing chips fall where they might.

4 champs are not going to finish second very often.

Fun as hell tournament. Had it on 3 TVs, got to watch it with father and friends. It wasn't the same as being there, but for this year I am feeling OK with this whole weekend.

^^ 100% agree on the champs count.

Most get all pumped for March Madness; gimme the NCAA wrestling tournament any day of the and twice on Sunday vs the bball. I find it 1000x more exciting. It’s the single best sporting/multi-day event of the year for me. May even be the best sports event each yr period. I am completely captivated and squirming on my couch to ‘aid’ the Penn St moves. My wife just laughs at me. I can’t help it. I think it might be the ‘energy’ I am putting ‘out there’ that is causing all of the Penn St success. You’re welcome. We Are...

Going back to 1979 (42 years), the first year that 8 All-Americans were crowned, only once (until 2021) has the second place finisher had more than two champs. That was 2002, for Iowa State, and they had 3.

In those 42 years, the 2nd place finisher had these numbers of champions;
0: 4 times
1: 23 times
2: 13 times
3: once (2002, ISU)
4: once (2021, PSU)

Btw: from 1963 to 1978, 6 AA's were crowned. Prior to that, there were 4 most years, but a couple years with 3 I believe.

Watched with Tikk, roar, nova, pawestl (and the Mrs...) and couldn’t be happier tonight. Feel like we won the whole thing and couldn’t have asked for better company watching it.
I would love one day to meet you all in person. I have never been to the National tournament (Nationals?) but now that I am retired I would love to make it happen. I must say I envy those of you who live near Penn State. As a San Diegan and one who wrestled in Oregon I am definitely one of the outsiders, but the genuineness of many of the posters here makes me feel like one of the family of Penn State wrestling fans.

Well if ya ever decide to come out to Pa for a match, I'll have a room set aside for you at my place. :)

I quoted a post from HR to show their lunacy. I thought I made it clear it wasn't my opinion.

Edit: Just to clarify, this was not @Mat Burn posting. It was a clip from an HR thread, deep in the cesspool.

I tried to clear @Mat Burn from any malfeasance in my earlier post. I realized that my snippet of a quote from his post from an HR thread made it look like his own words. He is not that delusional. I would hate to see him catch any splatter of fecal matter originating on the HR!
