Aaron Brooks at Midlands

The OTC, is the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. You can take classes on line or attend a local college while gray shirting. The RTCs are regional training centers located around the country. This is a model that was put into motion when Zeke Jones was the world team head coach with the purpose of extending high level training for the Olympic styles to other areas of the country to elevate the USA in those styles. (Mission accomplished) RTCs are strictly for training purposes and have nothing to do with the schools. The NLWC is not affiliated with PSU. You must meet a certain criteria to train at these facilities. Example: HS state champion, FARGO placer etc.

Thanks. So I guess it’s a wrestling specific program you gotta be accepted to, and you can, but dont hace to be taking classes?

How's things been lately?
Just standing up for my teams tradition. When did a teams history of success become obsolete? All sports have tradition yet it seems people only care about recent success because it fits their agenda. We should just erase the history books every few years because it doesn’t matter.

Iowa has a wonderful and amazing wrestling history. For 3 decades they were THE program and still today they are pretty good. However, today THE program is about 11 hours east of Iowa City.

Just a point to remember. Over the last 20 years, Penn State has more team championships than Iowa.

Thank you Mr Brooks, it is so great to have your insights, what a rarity and we are so appreciative!
Thank you! Will keep you guys posted on what weight he will be. He is still kind of a tweener for 184, I’m sure he is still growing and will be fine at 184 next year, but he could be 174 or 184 for Midlands depending on holiday snacks! Lol

It's odd that in college basketball or football, for example, you don't see UCLA men's basketball fans or Yale football fans using their programs' historical achievements in the same manner as Iowa wrestling fans do on a routine basis.

Whoa. 174 would be really juicy. Zahid, Askren, Brooks in same field. That would be must see TV

Must see too. ;)
I wonder if Askren vs. Aaron would set a folkstyle record for age disparity. Either weight, I'm confident Aaron will represent himself well. I was kinda jazzed at the notion of Parker vs. Brooks anyway.

Not even a Midlands record. In 2002, 42-year old Randy Conrad lost to UC Davis sophomore Jeremiah Jarvis in the championship bracket. I'm not sure exactly how old Jarvis was but there had to be a 20-plus year age gap.

Conrad had been an All American at Iowa State and was a high school athletic director when he decided to give Midlands a shot in 2002.

I haven't been listening to Askren's new podcast, is he saying he's definitely going to Midlands? FWIW, he's made this plan before and not followed through, so I'll believe it when I see it. But it would be great for the sport if he did go.

If Aaron managed take 184 he'd be the second 'Penn State' champ at that weight in the last few years.

It's another great opportunity for young Mr. Brooks (no John, not you). Good to see Aaron stretching himself in preparation for next season. Freestyle for our country, Cowboy Open, Midlands, and so much more. Doesn't back away from a challenge, instead embracing it, and always classy. Perfect fit.

What is AWL that Aaron participated in?

I think someone cracked a joke about DT drafting Sammy Brooks, saying he should have drafted Aaron Brooks instead, and somehow that stuck in people's minds. Pretty sure it's the Mullet competing at AWL though.

American Wrestling League, the upcoming event (Friday night), where he'll wrestle Nick Heflin.
Hah- Roar removed his post, but not before I replied!!

That would Be Sammy...

Who is expected to be at 184 for Midlands? IL, UNI, and Iowa have Midlands on the schedule.

#2 Parker (Illinois)
#10 Foster (UNI)
#12 Wilcke (Iowa)

Wait....is this AWL event for real?
I thought it was some kind of fantasy thing someone concocted.

If real, is it free or folk?
Besides Zain/Oliver, I would be really interested in Imar/Dieringer matchup - I dont think they ever met in college.

Yep--totally real. DT and Dake drafted teams. Pretty sure it will be Freestyle* (as in, I heard that maybe there'd be some rule experimentation)

And here's 'ringer vs. iMar I:

My bad...got hoodwinked by a friend. Not often does he get me...
Honestly, that's why I was confused. No way Aaron could wrestle for money.... It was too easy so I was sure there was another AWL that I didn't know about. But I laid some bait out anyway just in case.
Glad someone caught a rare glimpse of an incorrect roar.

The last I heard him talk about it which was last week he said, "we'll see." He doesn't know if the UFC will allow him to do it because he has a fight booked for 1/26. He did say that he still wants to compete at Midlands though.
