Aaron Brooks at Midlands

Best of luck to Aaron. I'll be cheering him on from my couch in New Jersey.

Going to be a game time decision as I’ll be within a day of driving 11-12 hours back from PA to Chicagoland.

Made that drive from NE PA to Chicago back in the 90's more times than I care to remember. Fun times.

It looks like he will be 174. Anyone going? See you there.
Hall said they had a good strategy for ZV and it worked. Might want to check in. I do know he didn’t go over the back when ZV got to his legs. Good Luck.

I was getting ready to fly out to Chicago for a long weekend and take in the Midlands. Would enjoyed watching your son, John. But last minute schedule changes finds me on call at the hospitals in the Scranton area the weekend through Jan 2. I'll have to wait till he's on the Penn State team officially.
PS everyone in the Scranton area keep your elderly in doors and safe. No broken hips or the like. I'd like a chance to watch both the Scuffle and the Midlands. Now after Jan 2, I don't care if you take them out snow boarding. Happy New Year

Huge Brooks fan here and love having his dad “on board”
Great to see AB seeking challenges, but does he have a realistic chance against Zahid?

I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I think you'd have to install Zahid as a pretty strong favorite vs AB. Mark Hall, Ed Ruth, DT and Jason Nolf all lost to upperclassmen early in their careers...and besides Green, none of the guys they lost to were as a accomplished as Zahid. Win or lose Midlands will be a good experience for young Mr Brooks and I'm sure it'll make us that much more excited to see him in blue and white next year.

Yes, Zahid will be the clear favorite, but this statement could use some clarification. When and how did they lose? What were the circumstances and differences? Does early career mean pre- or post-redshirt? We shouldn't assimilate or conflate all losses. For example, Nolf lost to James Green 7-4 as a redshirt freshman at the Scuffle. Hall lost a true freshman at an Iowa dual. DT lost in the finals of NCAAs his freshman year, etc.

To clarify your clarification Nolf lost to Green as a true frosh. DT lost in the finals of his RS frosh season.

I was just making a general statement that some really excellent PSU wrestlers took losses early in their careers. Heck, even that Sanderson guy lost during his redshirt year.

tOSU is supposed to be sending a bunch of their young guys to Midlands. We could see Brooks vs Hoffman.

125-Heinselman
141-Kiner
149-Sasso
157-Cleary
174-Smith
184- Hoffman
285-Traub

OSU gets their non starters out to a lot of tournaments. The guys listed above have all wrestled 12+ matches already.

Just read Jaden Mattox has rejoined the Buckeyes wrestling team... lots of conflicting info was out there whether he really would be joining the team second semester after handling a few things. A poster on Bucknuts claims to know Mattox and confirmed he was back with the team, and posted this picture with he and Nato, Logan Stieber, Chase Singletary and a couple others.

Mattox could be another Buckeye inclusion at Midlands if he’s in shape for it. He has wrestled unattached at a few events already these same guys have as well, including one where he missed weight by a half pound and had to wrestle up at 165....

The banter underneath the photo caused me to wonder if Jaggers wears skinny jeans while wrestling in the room.

All in all, a pretty decent path for Brooks. First round bye, then a D3 guy, then Ben Harvey and Ryan Christensen, both experienced but not flashy NQs, then Zahid in semis early on day two. Lujan and Sebastian seeded 2 and 3 on the bottom half.

I don't see Askren in the 184 bracket. Didn't think it was likely after he signed with UFC, but woulda been cool

174 it is, and right after the holiday, interesting. Thought we might see AB at 184. Look forward to seeing what he can do.

I believe QFs are tonight and SFs are tomorrow at noon CT.

I think he is done. No injury, but was nauseous. Gave it a go in the quarters, but no energy. Started feeling bad before the Army match. We will see in the morning, but I doubt it. Thanks for the support!! Next stop is the Dave Schultz.

Is there a “dislike” button?!?! Just kidding...hope he feels well soon and glad to hear he’s not injured. He looked great today and all the more impressive to hear that he had to guy things out while under the weather...
