All Star Classic - Sat, Nov 16

How do you stall going forward?
The people complaining about Starocci stalling complain the opponent was stalling even when the opponent wins 19-6. Stalling is a catch all phrase for that particular group's total understanding of wrestling.

I was just watching this video before I came over here. I love this angle because it shows Carter's insane strength (especially so deep into the match) to be able to pull in the leg, especially when he initially didn't have his hands locked. Not that it was ever a concern of mine, but that match shows strength will not be an issue with Carter at 184.

Just re-watched the SVN-Watters match. He was all over Watters. Every position. Highly variable attacks. When was the last time you saw a foot sweep like that? Nolf? Maroulis?

He should be regarded as a very real contender for the 149 title. Henson is great, but SVN beat him the last time out and looked markedly improved over any version of SVN we've seen.

He'll have some good B1G tests with Parco, Lovett, Webster and D'Emilio. If he's anywhere near where he was last night he should beat all of them.

Ran into Jore Volk at sheetz on atherton after the event-

I was with my son, Jore was a great dude- took pictures signed people's hats- he spent a lot of personal time engaging with folks!
That is pretty cool, but it begs the question - what is a guy from Wyoming doing at a Sheetz? How does he know Sheetz? Chilly dogs anyone?

It was great to see Shayne out there again and remind us of just what a force we missed last year. This interview was fantastic and I hope everyone gets to see it.
Interesting tidbit there: Kurt McHenry had surgery the same day as SVN.

Sign me up for another round of Starocci-Keckeisen. Well wrestled by two truly elite guys. I definitely favor Starocci in the rematch. He seemed more in control, but Keckeisen is still right there.

Keck is clearly very slick, but Carter's D and head and hands is superior.

Well, you guys have accused Iowa of doing that for a decade lol
I don't think I have said the Iowa push, push, push scream for a stall call is a stall. I make fun of Iowa because at crunch time it is the Iowa offensive plan of attack.

When Cael announced Shayne out for the season last year, he said it was a lingering injury and it got aggravated and they decided at that point in the season (when they qualified for a medshirt), it was just time to bite the bullet and get surgery.

Combined that with Shayne literally looking another level returning (usually there is rust to fight off) ... I wonder if Shayne wasn't close to 100% his freshman year.

He hurt his knee at the Clarion Open his redshirt year.

Interesting tidbit on FloRadio today, Pyles said Kasak/Staff took the match assuming it would pull his redshirt. The direct quote “that match was wrestled under the impression that that would pull his redshirt”
What does that mean for Facundo?

Before anyone asks... No, I don't have a plan.

I'll just say Facundo's freestyle chops don't seem to be suffering in State College.

My biggest issue is with the position that if young men don't make the starting lineup at some point, they will transfer. There are (at least) two flaws with this. One, most of these guys' goal is to become NCAA or Olympic champs. If you can't beat another guy in the room, why would you think it's more likely to come out ahead of him by going to another school? It's more likely they stay in the room, try to get better and win the spot. It's one thing if it becomes clear you're not a D1 wrestler. Then, fine, transfer to a D2 or D3 school. Two, most of the guys are smart enough to know they will reach their top potential in the best room in the country, not in a lesser room. It's a different story after someone graduates and is looking at graduate programs.

Simple: if you don't start, you have 0% chance of reaching your goals.

If you leave, there is a non-zero chance of somebody else beating your former teammate at NCAAs so you don't have to.

Dean finished 7th the year Beard left. Beard lost in the blood round, so he didn't live up to his end of the equation. But the decision to leave, start elsewhere, and let someone else beat Dean proved correct for him.

Doesn't mean it's the right choice for everyone -- only that it's a clear, obvious, straight-forward basis for such a decision.
