I still don't know what people think elite QBs look like--perfect?
QBs are generally judged on playoff record. Drew's 2-0 without a pick.

No backs out of the backfield. Not running on 3rd and one. Felt coach K had a bad night. At times they were 10 yards off our slot receivers and we never took advantage. Just strange night offensively. Semis is all that matters though.

Coach K's play calling was horrendous. Doing trick plays on 3rd and 3 when Allen was killing them on the run all night. Having Allar make 3-40 years throws all night when we only needed 3 yards for a 1st down. Did you watch Boise QB throwing for 8 yards or so on every play and completing them. Coach K constantly had Allar dropping back looking for an open WR 20-30 downfield only to get sacked or pressured.

Coach K better re-watch his play calling over and over again since it was terrible. Watching teams constantly throwing slants for 8 yards or so against our defense; something we can never do, Why?

Need shorter, quick hitter routes in the playbook. Too many long developing WR routes.
That's fair but that's not AK's offense. He relies on a heavy vertical passing game which will result in more sacks and SHOULD result in a lower comp % most of the offenses we'll see today will have 30-50% of their passes with 5 yards of the LOS. Allar is around 15%

They better prepare Allar to face more blitzes Until he shows the ability to make people pay I’d blitz like crazy
Well said, elite quarterbacks when blitzed stay in the pocket and keep their eyes downfield. He will have to learn this skill or at least learn to throw the ball away. Jared Goff is an excellent example of this. Great footwork and focus. This is why it is so hard to play the QB position. Is Drew elite ? no , but l am glad he is our leader.

He had 3 TDs with no turnovers. Not sure why the coaches called "chuck it deep" so much when slants, screens, and drags would have been available all night long.
2nd qtr was crazy. Very confused by the long bomb blitzkrieg when the running game was crushing it. And when we had a quick 14 point lead🤷🏿‍♂️

And it was interesting that the announcers said that all week long Franklin was talking up Omari as a secret weapon. A burner. He could fly past anybody……something we rarely saw all season long.

So here are my theoritizations: 1) We haven’t been successful all year throwing deep so teams play us tight to the line to stop run first. He knew the Boise dbacks could be beat and he wanted to put a lot of long balls on tape so next opponent would play back.

2) He wanted both Allar and Omari to have success and build confidence. Get timing down. Give o line confidence.

Certainly was a different game. The worst part was Allar taking so many sacks. And big, deep sacks. He needs to learn to just throw it away when needed. Losing 12-15 yds is terrible.

People have to stop with the sack nonsense
Boise had 4, FOUR, sacks...2 of them were times he stepped up looking to run, one was on a screen play when Warren was stuck in traffic and the OL couldn't handle the blitz so he had no option other than to duck and cover then the fourth was Singleton missing his assignment.
Four sacks with our passing game (a long developing, vertical attack) is to be expected
Why does no one comprehend what our offense is? We aren't Oregon--we aren't designing plays to get the ball out in 2 second
Can everyone please watch Kansas last year?

Has Coach K or any OC before him ever heard of a "slant pass"!!! Allar was dropping back with 15-20 yards of wide open field in front of him, and yet, he throws 30-40 yards for another incompletion. What the hell is Coach K looking at up in that box??? No withstanding, the running ability of Allen all night long. Yet, we have 3rd and one and throw for 30 yards. Freaking mind boggling.

We should have won this game 45-14 easily.

I still don't understand why we never flip the ball to the slot receiver (especially Singleton) when they in motion like 99% of teams do multiple times a game. ND or Georgia will be a much better challenge for our offense. Unfortunately, I don't think AK schemes for the opponent--he runs his offense and believes it will be enough.

Allar had little chance on the sacks. He had no time whatsoever. I will question his reads of blitz packages and a few of the RPO handoffs - as examples, the untimely muffed exchange and that option play in half one where he kept the ball. He made some great throws and missed on a few as well. I grade him a B in this game. I do think we will need to have him play better to win this whole thing. A fact that could be extended to the other players.

Coaching/play call could be lumped in there as well. End of the day it is all about winning and I don’t care if it is ugly - just compete and win.

He was great tonight
I'm pretty sure he could win a title and people still wouldn't comprehend what an elite QB looks like
Well he was inconsistent last night but made key throws at critical times including a couple deep throws that were right on the money and could have been caught.

Allar had an off night. Just over 50% passing, although there was a lot of DPI not called. His read option game was pretty poor leading to the momentum changing fumble when it looked like Penn State would just march down the field a third time for a 21-0 lead. He did not recognize the blitz and ran right into it, although the lack of offensive strategy to counteract it was head scratching. No screens, draws, quick outs to outlet receivers was puzzling. Did they not gameplan or practice for this knowing Boise’s defensive MO of blitz, blitz, blitz? Abandoning the successful run game for gimmick plays was stupid as well.

This game should not have been as close as it was. I did notice Allar was in the face of the refs a lot because there obvious were some things that were going on that were not being dealt with. This happened after he was hit somewhat late at the knees on one play that could have been a roughing the passer call, yet it was called on Penn State in the EZ on a much less egregious hit. Also on the throwback screen to Warren a defender was holding Warren preventing him from becoming the target.

Overall it was a somewhat meh performance from Allar, although some of it appeared to be related to poor offensive play calling as well as some dubious officiating when it came to the grabby Boise defenders.

He's not great on Zone Read plays (we probably should stop saying RPO because there's never a pass option--I do it too) but when you're asking a pro-style QB to do that he's going to make bad reads. He's definitely not an elite Read Option guy.
All QBs miss throws. But did he really have a miss that couldn't have been caught today? The potential pick which should have been OPI was his worst throw followed by the high throw to Warren running down the seem--though Warren has to catch that.

I'm just confused on where you all see this inconsistency. I think people expect perfection which is never going to happen for any QB.
Remember, we're not Oregon or even Boise State. Allar actually has to read the defense prior to the snap and go through progressions. Dillon just catches the ball and throws 95% of the time.

Name an elite college QB...
This year , there are none in College football. Elite would mean in college John Elway, Payton Manning, or modern day Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes. Not to argue but there are few elite quarterbacks over the years. This is why it took the Buffalo Bills 20 years to find a quarterback. Very few choices, go ask the Raiders.

I mean, okay, if there's not an elite college QB that's fair I guess. At least you're consistent.
Who's the last elite college QB? Mahomes and Allen weren't elite in college? Burrow for one year?

Let me respectfully disagree.

Several of Allar's sacks were somewhat caused by our running back whiffing on blocks or not even attempting a block.

Sorry, I'm confused--what are you disagreeing with?
Are you saying Allen and Mahomes were elite in college? The rest I agreed with you because you were consistent.
Yes, they were elite . Unfortunately they were elite and they very smart with their intelligence and leading their smaller schools to successful years. If you disagree, l respect your opinion.
