And thus the CJF to USC rumors swirl

Snoop Dog was at State College yesterday. Do you think he was there recruiting Franklin?

Or, was there helping Franklin recruit...

Just like the Jonas Bros...

Not saying that USC does not have some recruiting advantage over PSU, but all the USC coaches in the period you reviewed were aggressive recruiters. Whereas that period for PSU includes many years of Joe not out recruiting in person plus the sanction years. A move valid comparison would be using Joe's glory years, or just the last couple of years once CJF got rolling....

Those guys may have been aggressive recruiters, but they were nobodies. Kiffen was and continues to be a sh*t show. If a guy like Franklin or Meyer set up shop there, USC is back on top quickly.

USC hires Penn State coach James Franklin to replace Clay Helton
Few in the industry would be surprised to see Franklin as USC's next head coach. Meyer's return is no guarantee, and he might not be the preferred choice of new USC president Carol Folt.

Franklin has a very good team at Penn State and momentum in recruiting. He's a "Pennsylvania boy with a Penn State heart," as he famously said at his PSU introduction. But he also wants to win a national championship. If Penn State loses to Ohio State for the third consecutive year, and the Buckeyes win their third consecutive league title, Franklin could bolt for USC. Coaches crave access and USC has more -- both in recruiting and for the playoff -- than Penn State.

Oklahoma's loss opens door for CFP debate over one-loss teams
If the Penn State job opens, the candidate pool would be excellent. Four names immediately jump out: Baylor coach Matt Rhule (a former Penn State linebacker), Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead and Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell.

Rhule recently received a contract extension at Baylor, but I'm told it wouldn't prohibit him from a move like Penn State, where he'd be a home-run hire. Moorhead, who shined as Penn State's offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017, must turn things around with the Bulldogs but still has strong support among key Penn State people. Campbell, still one of the more talked-about candidates in the country, is ultimately a better fit closer to his home state of Ohio. Fickell has Cincinnati headed toward its second straight double-digit win season. He also has recruited Pennsylvania for years.
Want to bet he doesn't leave....name your wager!!!!!!!!!

Since US

Since USC has coach how about a billion dollars and if Helton is gone I am putting it all on Urbs. Franklin would only consider leaving for his dream job which we all knows is Pitt.

Michigan? Wtf

Michigan would be a great job I think (taking off Penn State fan glasses). Great university, great tradition, lots of money, and they recruit nationally. Would I leave for it if I'm Franklin? No - unless the money is too good to pass up.

I don't think you leave one "blueblood" program for another for football or financial reasons. I think this holds particularly if it's your home state where you are coaching.

IF CJF ever decides to leave, it will be something else- like not feeling that he or his family are supported by the fans or the institution.

That's a good point; noting Meyer left Florida for OSU, but reasons were as much personal as anything. Fisher left FSU for A&M, but I think he saw the writing on the wall there.

How is it better than PSU. Still in the Big Ten East dealing with OSU and also PSU. You are in a worse town and climate. The facilities aren’t better. Recruiting isn’t easier.

I didn't say 'better', but it's a good job. We know they are willing to spend big money, so in that sense they are a top ten job. All the other stuff though favors PSU IMO.

Wolve, is that you?
