Here is another question: If he does enter the portal, is PITT a player to pick him up?
1. I would take him in a heartbeat. If he beats out the players we have then he plays, if he doesn't he doesn't play.

You just nailed Fleming's main problem - trying to stay healthy. Heck, even last year he had some undisclosed (by OSU) health issues the first 3 or 4 games which limited his playing time

I wouldn't take Fleming over McClain. McClain has been at PSU for the Spring and is well on his way to being integrated into the PSU offense, and he looks as talented as Fleming. So I don't get the love for the oh-high-ya potential transfer. Unless, as has been pointed out, Cephus doesn't make it to campus.
Some seem focused on the new shiny thing. But I don't believe Cephus will be the top WR at PSU in 2023. I'll go with KLS who has actually produced at PSU the last 2 years, has progressed in his production during that time (not as fast as fans with sometimes unreasonable expectations would prefer), and will have had over a year and a half to develop chemistry with Allar and Pribula.

You also left out Egbuka - the other returning starter from last year and probably the best all around offensive player on the team. Fleming - at best - will share time with Ballard and Tate who absolutely lit up their Spring camp and almost everyone associated with OSU is claiming that Tate had the best true freshman Spring ever as a WR
The fact of the matter is that if he comes to PSU, he is definitely in the running not only to be a starter, but also to be the #1 reciever on the team. Virtually every receiver on our roster has the potential to be our #1 receiver because we have no receivers on the team who have established themselves as such. Our receiver room is not in the same league as Ohio State. For whatever reason, despite his talents, Flemming was unable to separate himself in a room full of the most elite receivers in the country. That doesn't mean he will not become the man in a more average receiving corp. and perhaps even be able to separate himself once he becomes a primary target.
Where did you get the info that Burrow was 3rd on the OSU depth chart the year he was battling DeWayne Haskins for the starting QB position? What killed Burrow was that he broke his hand midway through the competition which was neck and neck with Haskins. That's been widely publicized and even discussed by Burrow several times. He absolutely still loves OSU and was even seen at one of their home games last year with OSU attire on recruiting one of their QB prospects - Brock Glenn - who committed and than later decommitted.
BTW, Haskins obviously won the QB job after Burrow broke his hand and went on to break several B1G records in his only year as the OSU starting QB

Hey, if you think OSU's 4th best receiver puts PSU "over the top..." good for you. I've already said that if indeed he enters the portal and James wants him, that's all that matters. I just don't see how fanboys can get excited about a WR that has caught about 55 balls in 3 years. If his name wasn't Fleming and he didn't have an inflated star rating, posters would be like.....why are we going after an injury prone, soon to be 23 year old receiver?

If Fleming comes here and he's #1 this is at best an 8-4 team. No one even has an inkling if he's entering the portal. If he does it's because he's been told he's been passed over and is at best #4. I would like someone to explain how taking second team talent from Ohio State....a soon to be 23 year old, injury prone (chronic shoulder issues) will put PSU into the playoff picture. Looking at his 3 years of demonstrated performance in the Big Ten, how can anyone argue that he's a better than average conference receiver.
How does taking a player that (if he's in the portal) has been told he's #4 or worse......have any impact on Ohio State. They'll laugh at PSU fans who make such a ridiculous claim. Are we now using Panther Lair logic?
Yes, why in the world would we want a kid who had over 500 yds and 6 tds on a roster that has by far the best wr room in the country? So crazy.
Julian had a really bad shoulder and I believe one surgery in high school. He's had one since. Last season his shoulder popped out in a preseason scrimmage and he was able to get it back in place on his own. His 5 star rating had a lot to do with his advanced age (turned 19 his senior season) and playing at a lower classification school.
Truth be told, he's an excellent athlete and in reality should have been rated a 4* recruit. He's a hard worker who hasn't complained and done everything OSU has asked of him. He's just never going to be their go to 1 or 2 and perhaps now he's been surpassed at 3.
If healthy he's a good, not nearly a great player.
Our wr room is one our weaknesses in case you havent noticed. Our presumed #1 receiver had 389 yards and 4 tds last year. Fleming had more with a more competitive wr room x10. We just offered a kid from Colorado. You'd rather have him than Fleming?
Yep that's what he wants. Ohio State doesn't have a good quarterback that can throw him the ball.
I'd rather see Wallace, Lambert Smith and Cephus and see the the other WRs on the roster earn PT.
I will literally take any WR from Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc that had his numbers last year not being the primary option. Has nothing to with his name or stars.
The obsession with him being injury prone is weird--if you bring him in and he's injured that's just part of the risk with any player but worth the risk for someone with his kind of experience and production.
Why? Is this just about you not liking the portal? But then you have Cephus? So--what is this? The portal is basically free agency. We have a lot of unknown at WR--you add anyone you think can upgrade the position. I'm not sure why you want to focus on the unknowns and just hope they're better.

Ideally, a transfer should be a starter or likely to get major minutes. Or a major need for depth.
Yet when I say "meh" when we added a 3rd string RB (which wasn't a major need for depth) people lost their minds yet some of those people don't want to add Fleming or Lemonious-Craig when need for depth there is much worse

We start three receivers. If Fleming can get minutes with the best wr core in the county do you not think he will get reps here?
I'm not complaining. I'm disputing the idea that Julian Fleming is somehow coming to PSU to be even a shadow of his clearly unrealistic 5 star top 10 recruit in the country rating.
He has proven after 4 years at OSU to be at his very best (last year) and when healthy, their #4 go to pass receiver. I am taking issue with the star zombies that he is anything but experience "depth" that could be a valuable piece if Cephas fails his spring classes, or there is a snag and he doesn't show. However, to inspire the sheer fanboy excitement that "Fleming is coming....Fleming is coming" is a knee slapper. Even more hilarious is the thought that if he leaves OSU, it weakens them.
Personally, I am fine with Lambert Smith, Cephas and Wallace. I saw great potential in McLain and Evans as well. Julian will soon be 23, has a bum shoulder and has been passed over by younger, healthier and more talented WR at OSU.
If the rumor is true, and James Franklin sees fit to bring him in, I'll be his biggest fan and pray for a "rebirth" of his once thought to be great potential. I am an old Southern Columbia Tiger....even a former teammate of his Grandpa. I have nothing against the kid. I would just prefer to develop the room as it is and only bring in a 2 or 3 year eligible transfer.......or if an absolute clear #1 should somehow appear in the portal (and that would go for any position).

Who cares that he's 23? And being passed by thr kids at Ohio State isn't not being good enough to start here. None of this makes any sense. Ignore the rating coming out of high school. He produced more, despite the injuries, last year as the 3/4 receiver than anyone we have. That's just a fact. Ideally we add him and Lemonious-Craig. WR and DT are our positions of need. To ignore kids because they're older or are behind elite receivers at Ohio State doesny make sense.
