You just have to admit with a 4 or 8 team playoff every game just matters that much more. 12 teams water it down a little imo.

Definitely 8 teams…no byes. You can only do a legit tournament with 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on.

I don't think there should be byes. A big advantage to stay and/or get healthy.

The problem is, it takes 14 weeks before a playoff can even start. There are 12 games. Each school usually has a bye. And then there is the conference championship game week, which merely changes who gets into the playoff but doesn't whittle down the field at all.
24 works great especially with 4 power conferences. Top 2 teams in each conference get a bye. All small conferences get a bid. 11 at large which will likely go heavily to the Big Ten and SEC.

Why should the second place team in a garbage conference get a bye? Plus 11 at large bids is too many and no need for the small conferences to get in, just useless extra games.

If you want to bash me at least use valid arguments against me--they exist. I told someone yesterday I disagreed but respected their logic regarding Allar starting the second half today. Unlike many here, I see alternatives instead of just crying because I think everyone is against us which is what this is with AWS. He thinks other teams will get byes, we won't because "they" hate us.
Why because I don’t want a college football playoff to become a love affair with mid major schools like the basketball tournament has become? My point was that the NFL schedule is balanced. P5 teams playing FBS teams ought to be abolished. In the NFL case, if one feels compelled to give a top team a bye, there is objectivity in it the criteria. College has no objective means to do so.
Being unbiased doesn’t make you a Penn State fan…fans are supposed to be biased, that’s why they’re called fans.
You absolutely do when you set it to winning the 4 major conferences...especially when conference games expand to 10. And you can decide the byes based solely on conference record encouraging team to schedule good non-conference games to build their resumes for at large bids.

The reality is they're part of FBS and must be included in a playoff if those conferences remain at the top level. Simple. Like all sports.
Most years 4 is plenty. 8 would be better than 12. There's zero chance it goes to 24 in the next 15 years.
You're going to be surprised. The only way it doesn't is if FBS breaks into different divisions with multiple playoffs.
Maybe MLB should include the AAA teams in the playoffs…they’re part of the MLB after all.
