You probably know nothing about FCS. It's also why you can't fathom how I like Patty Fitz and Troy Calhoun but think Franklin is underachieving.
I can't wait until college football breaks away from the NCAA and people like you are still pretending in 1986.

Patty Fitz hangs around 500 and occasionally make a run at a division title and he's basically God there because it's nearly impossible. Franklin has no limitations working here as evident by the recruiting rankings--he just can't develop

Franklin because if Fitz was as great a coach as you seem to think he is, then he should be able to scheme well enough to have a winning record every year in that division.

Why do you think breaking away from the NCAA is going to change all that much? You don’t think teams will still schedule cupcakes? It will still be about the money.

If you think Franklin's success at Penn State is more impressive than what Fitzgerald has done at Northwestern then you deserve a well thought out response. You claim you coached yet you made the most idiotic comment I've seen on this board which is impressive.

Four losing seasons
1 third place finish and with no sanctions
Doesn’t really compare with Franklin’s numbers regardless of where he coaches. And Franklin had back to back 9 win seasons at Vandy, which is on par with Northwestern in terms of lack of history. And when Franklin took over at PSU, It’s not like he stepped into Bama post Nick Saban. Not an idiotic comment at all, a fact based comment.

Yes, when Franklin was at Vanderbilt he was doing an amazing job hence I wanted to hire him and he was my top choice for the job. He did fine until 2019 then we saw a drop--that's not acceptable here. The early struggles didn't bother me.
Again, 11-11 (8-10) is unacceptable. 5 losses in the Big Ten should NEVER happen at Penn State...ever.

It’s happened since we joined the Big. We had mediocre seasons before we joined the Big….so why shouldn’t it happen now? Did we suddenly become Bama without anyone telling us? Again, you’re putting Penn State at a level we have never been to judge our current coach.

We don't have to be in the playoff yearly as Bama is but there is no excuse for 11-11 (8-10)--none. Paterno underachieved many years as well but people refuse to be honest because he did things the right way.

Didn't Pat Fitzgerald just lose to an abysmal Duke team (Duke is coming off a 3-8 season). You are so full of double-talk $hit, it isn't even funny.

He's such a moron - if you reduce D1 to 64 teams away from NCAA and require them to only play each other, all you're going to do is turn the bottom half of the group into perennial losers and cause instability in their programs.

They didn't look good but did pull out the W, so they're 2-0 against weak competition.

Preseason they were seen as being in rebuild mode and not predicted to be a contender in the SEC.

Still, I think we'll have our hands full at their place next Saturday. Last week Vegas had us as 1.5 point favorites. At FanDuel that's already moved to 4.5, which sounds about right.

Many have no clue that playing, and beating, Auburn @home is a far more difficult task. Didn't a supposedly 4-loss mediocre Auburn team (4 losses going into game) take Alabama to 4 OTs @home last year??? Yes, Auburn was mediocre last year and again this year, but playing them at their place makes it a very difficult game.

Um, maybe a once in a lifetime pandemic might be an excuse. How many other years has the Big cancelled their season and then decide they’d start late with no OOC games? Seems like a big change.

Agreed. Plus they've got the revenge thing going for them.

I'll be thrilled to come out of there with a W...no matter how ugly or close it might be. In fact, I'm one of those people who doesn't think there's any such thing as a bad W or good L.
 
FPI has us as tied for the 9th best chance to make the playoffs (tied with Michigan State) so Auburn isn't a game we should lose. Doesn't mean we can't, upset happen, but the expectation should be that we win. If we do, it's a nice road win but still an expected one. If we lose--could be a long year.

One area of concern I have vs Auburn and beyond is this: we hired a Defensive Coordinator with the reputation of creating havoc: turnovers and QB sacks. After 2 games ( admittedly a small sample size), our defense has created 1 turnover, and has 3 sacks, 2 by a blitzing DB and 1 by a blitzing LB. Our D-line has not been credited with any. That does not look like a havoc-causing defense, and with very good teams upcoming, we need a havoc-causing defense.

I wish people would stop including the 2020 season in their (ahem) “analysis” of Franklin as a coach. It was a throw away season. We were giving significant playing time to walk-on freshman just to field a team through the pandemic.

People are free to analyze CJF as they please. The only evaluators that matter gave him a ten year contract.

Wow, I can't believe I agree with you, but do. If we're improved and have a legit shot at b1g East Championship, we should win this game. Is not an easy game as it is on the road, in a very difficult environment against a team with quality talent, but if we're back to where we were in 2018, we should find a way to win (hence why we are favored on the betting lines). A good test and a game I'm very much looking forward to.... should tell us quite a bit as to where this team is at, and where they're headed.
