B1G Championships Session 1 Thread

Shak is working Chakonis. Two nice takedowns and working him from top. He had a near and far side cradle locked, just couldn't take him over. Wise decision to not force it. About to be end of 1. Shak up 4-1 with 2:26 RT.

Shak started on bottom. Out but Chakonis tried to cradle him, didn't work. Shak with the TD. 7-1. Working him.

Nevills vs Jennings up on mat 3
Nick up 4-0 start of 2nd
still 4-0 in the third
final 5-0, Nick into semis

Crazy scramble. 2TD and 4NF for Chakonis then reversal for Shak. 10-7 Shakur.

Welp, no bonus for Rasheed's first 2 matches, but he's moving on so you cannot really complain

197: #2 seed Rasheed vs. Zack Chakonis (NW)

Per 1
Rasheed in on a single off the whistle, elevates, Chakonis gets away, Rasheed gets the same leg and gets the TD, 2-0. Chakonis tries to get a rev, Rasheed gives him the esc, 2-1. Rasheed quickly with a TD, 4-1. Working a crossface, but can't get the cradle. Now tries to get a near-side cradle, gets close, but can't lock it. Rasheed tries a farside cradle, but gave it up as he was somewhat vulnerable in the position. OOB with 7 sec. End. RT at 2:26 for Rasheed

Per 2
Rasheed takes bottom. He's out in 4 sec for the esc, 5-1. PD with 1:37 left. Rasheed in on a single, reaches across for the ankle and gets the TD, 7-1. Stoppage at 1:04 on a stalemate. Chakonis is flattened. End. RT at 3:32 for Rasheed

Per 3
Chakonis takes top. Rasheed stands, sits and turns in, and gets the esc, 8-1. RT is locked. Rasheed reaches in on a leg, Chakonis throws him and gets the TD and 4 NF. Rasheed with an esc and a TD makes it 10-7 (I think I got that sequence correct; looked away to watch Nevills). Chakonis out for the esc, 10-8. With 4:42 of RT, it's a 11-8 dec for Rasheed

Shak wins 11-8. 6 points came off a merkle with 4NF for Chakonis. Shak dominated but got outwrestled for about 8 seconds. Wasn't that close.

really thought shak was ready for big stage, but as a a listener only...this looks like confidence in the interviews may not be on the mat, what tilts he have when everyone is prepped for cradle??

If you're not watching then I'd say you don't get the full picture. Shak dominated Chakonis. That was not a close match. Chakonis hit a merkle and turned it into a 6 point move. It lasted about 8 seconds, but other than that Shak domintated him for 6 minutes and 52 seconds.

shouldnt there have been a danger count when nevills had jennings turned toward his back?

2nd wtf longing for Raptor headache, turning to a migrane. Bonus machine??? Let's hope it's nerves or illness or something. I am a huge Shack fan but without a cradle ..... that everyone know what's coming... Confident he will adjust, that said neither of those 2 performances will beat Moore. VJ is making me have stomach cramps, where's the alka selzer?

285: Nevills vs. Conan Jennings (NW)

Picking it up at the end of P1. Nevills got a TD and 2 NF in the period, making it 4-0.

Per 2
Jennings takes bottom. Nevills quickly flattens. Nevills tries to work an arm bar, nearly turns him but nothing. RT over 3 min. Nevills working another tilt but Jennings doesn't turn. End. Rideout. RT at 3:46 for Nevills

Per 3
Nevills takes neutral. Nevills in on a single, they scramble, and a stalemate ends it. Under 1 min left. Nevills grabs the right leg, Jennings sorta sprawls, nothing. End. With 3:46 in RT, it's a 5-0 decision.

Come on, man. Stop reacting. These are the worsts posts. Shak has wrestled well. The score of the last match is not indicative of the match.

I mean, Shak was in trouble for a few seconds. He fought out of it, the same way Cenzo did, although Shak was in trouble for a quarter of the time Cenzo was. But other than Chakonis hitting that it was total domination by Shak. Chakonis hit a 6 point move, Shak did not panic, fought out of it, and that was that. The score was not a representation of how the match went.

I hear ya..but we are trying to win the Big 10 title, and these hiccups can effect that i believe!

It was a pretty weird position that he got stuck in, but it was obvious he was going to be able to roll through it eventually, not a situation that's likely to reoccur. I think he wrestled well that match, but better than the first.

That would be the Bo Schembechler perspective.

We are trying to win the national title. Big Ten title is a nice to have but not the goal.
