I get why this would be exciting for Penn State fans, but you can't help but start to wonder when this starts to become bad for wrestling as a whole. Penn State is positively hoarding talent and will likely trot out a top 10 P4P guy at every weight or nearly every weight. It's fun to be the fans of that team, but it borders on inevitability elsewhere. Ohio State and Iowa and Oklahoma State are all getting good guys to a lesser volume, but for all of the best talent to be so centralized, whether you want to look at as on Penn State's roster or on those 4 teams combined....well, it ain't great. Congrats on the great get, and allow me to reiterate, I would be ecstatic if I was you.

Geez...you must have hated Gable's Iowa program.

Fair points, Vak. I don't think the arms race is quite limited to those 4 teams...ASU and NCST have been pulling in some great talent too. With Penn state's recent recruiting dominance, I wonder how it pans out down the road, when there simply aren't spots for everyone. It's possible we see our first example of that this year, with McCutcheon.

I didn't really watch back then. But that's hardly the same thing. Wrestling is different now. Recruiting is much more science than art compared to the old days. We know who the best kids are almost always. The biggest part of the job now is recruiting those kids, and Cael may be the best we've ever seen at that. Hell, no maybe about it.

Very happy to hear Berge is coming to PSU. I see that he's projected at 149. I know that wrestlers in HS often wrestle at almost scratch weight. But if he's wrestling at 160 this year, that sure doesn't allow a lot of room for growth.

it is truly baffling that Iowa has not been able to capitalize on any recruiting momentum after Lee and Teasdale. I love it. Warner would be a huge whiff.

PSU getting crowded. I wonder if Joe Lee gets up to 165.

If we're truly interested in what's good for the sport then let's get the Berges of the world to Edinboro or Campbell or Bakersfield or Cleveland State.

I would honestly love this. Even Purdue, where he was rumored to go. It's not that a lot of guys need to vacate from Penn State or Iowa, just...I mean, SOME, right? Obviously most top level guys are going to a top level school, but given how much we know about how good these guys are now, given how much more ready many are to wrestle as true frosh, it's hard to see it as anything but bad for the whole of the sport for one school, or a small cadre of schools, to get all the top level talent. I'm not insinuating Cael and Penn State didn't do anything wrong here, their responsibility is to their program. Or that Berge did anything wrong. It's more of a macro level I'm talking about, this case is just the impetus for the discussion.

Welcome, Brady! Hope your experience is everything you've imagined.
How many state titles does he have in Minn ? What weight did he wrestle last year...Is he a Sr ? Where is he ranked in his class ? Overall ?

When he wrestled 160 at WNO last month he was pretty clearly smaller than everyone he went through.

Nothing shocks me anymore. A top level recruit gets a call from Cael and that often becomes his first preference. The partners and atmosphere are unmatched, and it is a very good education to boot. I think Berge said a mouthful when he directly mentioned the bonus point wrestling. Top kids want to shine in a wide open style. Cael teaches and preaches that style better than anyone else. tosu, osu, iowa, and several others will continue to get top end guys, but it does seem like they are starting to fight for 2/nd place.
