Berge

One of the posters on HR said no Iowa coaches made an in home visit with Berge. Kind of mind-boggling if you really want someone.

As someone else on there said, if there's one coach who doesn't have to visit kids in person, it's Mr. Undefeated, but he's out there selling harder than anyone it seems. Like Tom Brady all of a sudden became a football coach and makes home visits to high school QBs.

Give that man another raise
I don't believe that. Same poster said Cael doesn't honor scholarships for injured recruits. Which is demonstrably false (Sherlock).

In any case, apply the sniff test: why would Berge take an official there if the coaches hadn't visited him? It's not like he lives forever away from Iowa City (neighboring state, 3.5 hrs away). Stoll went to the same HS. Iowa recruits Minnesota. Just doesn't make sense.

On a less serious note: Iowa's official roster lists Stoll as 6-3, 215 lb (!). I'll go out on a limb and declare that inaccurate -- no way he's lighter than Kyle Snyder.

I hear you. I don't want to sound greedy, I will be shocked, but very excited if Fix decides to come to PSU.
You never know, with the recent recruits, it might make it even more intriguing to Fix. That is if he is interested in being on a championship team.

...if an athlete is injured and cannot compete any longer I believe he still gets whatever scholarship money he has been getting but it no longer counts against the "allowable" amount for the team...
...I know that's how football works...

Just going through the roster spreadsheet and noticed that while PSU is a slight favorite to win a NC this year for the sixth time in seven years, barring a change of plans none of these wrestlers will have used up any eligibility yet and are scheduled to be in the PSU wrestling room in coming years:

Mark Hall
Nick Lee
Brady Berge
Mason Manville
AJ Nevills
Roman Bravo Young
Joe Lee
Travis Whittlake
Adam Busiello

In addition we will have 3 more years of:

Vincenzo Joseph
Nick Suriano

2 more years of:

Jason Nolf
Bo Nickal
Nick Nevills
Shakur Rasheed
Anthony Cassar

and another year of

Zain
Matt McCutcheon

Not to mention guys like Dinmore, Stout, & Moss who could be starting for some good D1 teams right now.

At this point, I honestly don't think I can get all that excited over any more recruits...we need to transfer some of this mojo over to the football team as it is overflowing (not that they are doing poorly, but we need to catch Bama).

Big Snacks plays football and wrestling :)

Fix would be a fixture at 133/141 starting next year with Jimmy graduating.

Why do people think there is something tricky going on with the ship $$$? You can theoretically give 50% ship to 19-20 wrestlers every year plus other academic aid, ROTC, etc. to excellent students. That is what I think was one of the issues with Lee who wanted/ needed more. Cael has a way to manage his cap and will not deviate from it.

First, and last post here. I feel a little dirty, and I don't like it. I can guarantee no Iowa coach made a visit to SE MN. M* scheduled one, but canceled it.

I wonder about that as well. Seems unlikely he is a career 149 and it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't last more then a season or two at that weight.
Let me be very clear.
Berge wants to go to Penn State.
That does not mean I believe he will compete for Penn State.

Berge wants a good chunk of scholarship money and his past injuries are a concern.

As far as not standing by an injured athlete above is the only place I'm referring to. Since Brady named his top 5 on June 29th, and Cael made a trip to SE MN prior to Sept. 6th. That leads me to believe Cael either offered, and then made it contingent on his health, or waited until after Who's #1 to offer.

The story about Cael's visit to Berge was comical. He worked for him. It's not right of me to post anything more than that, based on hearsay, but the guy is one of the best at getting guys to his campus.

Crop, you're our main source in Minny, and that's all you're bringing to the table? The nerve. ;)

Time to call in a few favors, and go from hearsay to some facts that you can share with us.

As far as not standing by an injured athlete AmestoStateCollege (might have messed that poster reference up) eluded to that on this board, but any further than that I can't confirm, nor deny any further because this is the only place I've seen that.
Thanks for coming over, and I'll trust you're right if you'll accept some friendly advice:

Be careful making ethics allegations. Anyone who makes that type of allegation owns it, doesn't matter who said it first, especially when the source is an anonymous board poster. Those types of allegations, unsubstantiated, undermine credibility.

Unless you're taking shots at Jammen. (Kidding!) (Maybe.)

Middle weights are set for years!

149 Retherford, J. Lee, Berge
157 Nolf, Manville, N. Lee
165 Joseph
174 Rasheed, Hall
We are definitely Middle and Upper Weight U now...and just had a National Champ at the lowest weight. In doing so, our lowest weight guy beat a guy from Lower Weight U. Follow?

Manville over Joe Lee!

No argument there, Ian. Sadly, because I loves me some Mason Manville, I just don't see him riding the bench for even one year. He has proven that he will leave for perceived greener pastures. He certainly won't lack for suitors.

This is just crazy. The talent Cael is bringing in is incredible. Suriano,RBY, Nick Lee, Joe Lee, Berge, Manville Whitlake...god...it even looks better when I type it out! I'll say this, if by not going all in on Spencer Lee means we can fill our roster up with this....then count me fully on board. And before anyone says it, I have no idea what Cael did or didn't do while recruiting Lee but the longer these recruits keep stacking up, the more inclined I am to believe it really could have come down to money no matter what he said in his letter.

Interesting to note that since Lee and Teasdale committed, Iowa has lost Meja, Renteria, Bradley, Troy(rumored), Paddock and now missed on Berge. That's 6 quality guys that were projected to be on their roster. They are going to have some depth issues in the future, especially at the upper weights if they miss on Warner as is being rumored.

Congrats to Brady and family and also to Cael, Cody and Casey!!

I despised USC football under Pete Carroll, but I see similarities in the way recruits were/are drawn to the respective programs. When Carroll had "5-star" recruits stacked up literally three-deep at some positions, many fans and analysts droned on about how "Player A won't go there because they already have Players X, Y, and Z." Yet they kept signing. Why? Because the recruits believed in themselves and they couldn't turn down an opportunity to compete for the best program.

Cael has surrounded himself with an energetic, intelligent and detail oriented young staff that "gets it". In a short period of time they have changed the college wrestling landscape and set a new bar. Maybe I'm dreaming but I don't see this changing anytime soon.

Spot on Brian! The center of the wrestling world is in State College. Most of the recruits and signees are not Pa wrestlers. They were in Cael's first few years. What does that tell you? The Club is really beefing up and the facilities are even improving and will continue to do so as even more international athletes will arrive. Wouldn't be surprised if the OTC eventually moves. Incredible what has happen since Cael arrived but that was his plan.

There are some cultural similarities between PSU Wrestling and that era of USC Football: lots of fun, most competitive guys want to go there, etc.

One major difference, though: our program is clean. Funny how the NCAA started poking around once Pete the Cheat left for the NFL.

* not committed (or even targeted as far as I know)
Summary:
-Manville out of luck, could slot into 174 for two years if Hall doesn't redshirt.
-Trying to be responsible about Suriano. 2 years is about all we can ask for at 125.
- Could see another 197 recruit by 2019.
- Berge could be 149 after Zain, but that means Suriano stays down or Nick Lee redshirts. Don't know about that.
- Could be a weight off on RBY and Busiello

Nick Lee goes 141 next year while Berge redshirts. The following year Berge goes 149 while Lee redshirts. The following year Berge replaces Nolf at 157 while Lee wrestles 149. Joe Lee fights for a spot and so does Mason Manville. So many first world problems. Somebody sitting a year or two (think Matt Brown) ends up with a national title to finish off a career.

You're off a year on Busiello. He's class of 2020 (a year behind Raimo)
