I am stunned.

I ran a lot of scenarios on how bad Cleveland could f**k up these 2 picks

and even I could not come up with Mayfield #1/Ward #4

Had to go QB.. If you look at it objectively Mayfield was the best of the Qb's. And then they went position of need with Ward.. Could have went with Fitzpatrick but what is he? Safety? Corner? As a browns fan I've seen them draft too many "in between " players. I'm good to go with their picks.

Then why did such a small number of draft analysts and football guys have Mayfield rated as the top QB? So actually if you look at it objectively, he wasn’t the best QB. If 6 out of 10 people say player A is the best, and 3 out of 10 say player B is the best, and 1 says player C is the best...then objectively player C is certainly not the best player. And that’s about the percentage of people that said Mayfield was the best QB.

I could say Trace is going to be the best QB in next year's draft. A ton of other people could agree. People could say whatever they want ... I'm looking at stats . And Mayfield had them all beat by a mile. He's 6 foot and cocky... I get it.

He also played in the Big 12...hasn’t exactly been a hot bed of successful QB’s.

Although I don't like the Mayfield pick, this comment by the gm of the Browns might give Browns fans a little hope:

"Dorsey dismissed Johnny Manziel comparisons to Mayfield by stressing Mayfield's work ethic. The general manager said Mayfield learned the Oklahoma playbook in three days after joining the team. Jackson said they had Mayfield on the board for several hours, dissecting plays. Both men came away impressed with Mayfield's football acumen and ability to grasp different offenses." See http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/inde...rowns_scribbles_why_2.html#incart_river_index

If he really is that quick of a learner, there is some chance he may work out.

I guess they really really liked Mayfield because probably could of got SQ at 1 and BM at 4. They didn't want to risk another team getting him.
Passing on Chubb was just strange specially for cb and a guy who wasn't even projected in top 10.
I could even see the Browns still taking Ward at 4 if SB was available there. Dumb

Stats don't mean anything. If people only looked at stats the kid from San Diego would of been selected to the Giants not SB.
I hate when people use stats to justify a draft pick, specially a qb. Means squat...

That’s what a lot of sites like PFF do. Then they release their “mock” drafts, meaning who they would draft. PFF had Maurice Hurst going fourth overall, and now he’s still sitting there going into the fourth round. Another podcast had Derrius Guice as the number one RB, and he was like the sixth one drafted. You can’t just look at stats when comparing guys. There is much more to it than that.

You can use whatever metric you want to grade these qb's . Mayfield has them all beat.

Actually less than that because I saw no one that said BM was the best QB. Conversely, I’ve seen multiple ratings that had him not even going in the FIRST round.

The only opinions that matter are those of the teams. And we really don’t know how they ranked these guys. Most analysts are jokes to the people making decisions. Do you really think guys like Bellichick give a hoot how Kiper or McShay rank prospects?

This why they are the Browns and why we love them for it. Screwing up a draft is old hat for them. They will probably even have a parade to celebrate another lousy draft.

Why take Mayfield #1? He would have easily been there at 4. They probably could have even traded down and still got Mayfield. Passing on Barkley is a crime.

Right....the benefits of being a Browns fan, is not winning (of course) but watching how they can possibly lose again.

Will never know if Mayfield would have been there at 4. The browns were most definitely going to pass on Barkley at 4 even if he was still there. They have Duke and just signed Hyde. They filled needs. And another thing about Mayfield.... The browns weren't the only ones who had him #1 on the board.. It just came out that the rams head coach stated if they were in the position to draft high.. You sell the farm to grab Mayfield. But he's just the youngest head coach in nfl history so Wtf does he know? More is probably going to come out soon from other teams. Teams should just start listening to message board posters . Can you split super bowls 32 ways?

Word was that Bills traded into #3 to get Mayfield...now, they may have assumed the Browns were taking Darnold.

Well, they definitely could have traded their #4 pick and still got Ward later. The dumb moves for the Browns just keep piling up.
