Cadet WTT’s

That's interesting because it would make him ineligible for his SR year. PIAA has an age limit, done at age 19 unless born on or after July 1. So he'd have to either go prep school or NLWC.
So he made BOTH teams?!
How many guys have done THAT?

PIAA you can be 19 until 7/1 after your senior year.
That is not what the rule says.

Here is the rule:
Section 1. Maximum Age Rule.
A student shall be ineligible for interscholastic athletic competition upon attaining the age of nineteen years, with the following exception:
If the age of 19 is attained on or after July 1, the student is eligible, age-wise, to compete through that school year.

On or after July 1st before your Senior year you are good to compete. You can be 19 the whole year. That’s a fact.

That rule reads funny.
If a kid starts school at a normal age and then is held back one year he would 19 the year he is graduating.
PIAA championships are complete before July 1, so the rule would not need the exception.

OK but that's not applicable to Bassett.

If he's 14 while in 7th grade today, then he necessarily will be 19 on April 25 of his JR year . Therefore he can complete his JR year but not compete in his SR year.

OK but that's not what your first post said, literally.

Anyway, in the case of Bassett: if he's 14 while in 7th grade today, then he necessarily will be 19 before July 1 of the summer before his SR year. Therefore he can complete his JR year but not compete in his SR year.
If he is 14 and does not turn 15 until after July 1 he is a normal aged kid who has been held back one year.
The only way he can not compete his senior year is if he turns 19 prior to July 1 post his junior year.

I did a math fail. He'll be eligible for his SR year.

I literally used my fingers to count and still screwed it up. Extra strength idiot pills kicked in.

I would’ve been surprised they held him back giving up a year without knowing his birth date. Especially since athletically he didnt need to. Kid would’ve placed at states this year. He wrestled 7th grade for forest hills then repeated this year so he could technically wrestle next year as an 8th grader would be surprised if he did but Mason Gibson did the same thing and wrestled 8th grade.

PIAA also has a rule that gives athletes 6 years eligibility from 7th through 12th grades.
Not sure that any/either of these guys wrestled 3 years in Jr High (7th, 7th, 8th), but if they did, then they only get 3 years from 9th - 12th.

Bo Bassett did not wrestle this year for Bishop McCort, his family knows the rules and knew exactly what they were doing. Therefore he will be fine wrestling for his school every year now until he graduates. I do not know them either, its just common sense what they did. Just gives Bo and extra year to wrestle with is brother and cousins on the same team(and all the other studs that moved there). And my personal opinion is who am i or anyone else to judge what his parents feel is best for their son? They are obviously doing an amazing job with their kids on and off the mat.

One of my favorite wrestlers to watch is Bo Bassett. That kids motor and desire is unmatched, and he is never in a boring match. Takes on all challengers, and breaks kids almost all the time. Kid is also classy and humble in his interviews, and in the very few matches i have seen him lose, shows great sportsmanship.

A poster said above Bo could have placed in states this year...wrong he would have WON states this year in AA. Nathan Desmond teched Louie Gill the year before in PJW jr high states finals. Louie Gill won PIAA AA states this year as a freshman. No disrespect to Gill or any of those hammers, but they can not beat Bo.

All that said, congrats to him on his Greco and Freestyle Championships this past weekend. Good luck in the worlds.

Haven't really gotten a chance to see more than a few highlights of Bassett before this tournament. Positionally he looks more sound than most HS seniors. Miles to go and grow still, but he appears to be in good hands. FCP.

There's alot of talk saying that Bo will need to decide either FS or Greco. I have never heard that to be true but does anyone know if I'm missing something?

Both those guys did not participate the year they repeated. Exactly, these families know the rules and make whatever decision is best for them. Winning states would be considered placing.

I don’t think he has to choose, maybe people are advising him choose one and focus on it but its not a rule. Adam Coon competed in both styles at both Cadet and Junior Worlds for instance. Won a Bronze in both styles at Juniors I believe.

They are saying at cadet level you can only do 1 or the other.

It's pretty scary to think Bassett could potentially still be in college 8-10 years after being a Cadet World Qualifier.

Sounds like BO's and penn state kind of go together guess he's coming here right

Strittmatter is the problem. He will push Iowa.
Does he actually? I've never heard about that one way or another.

Seems when we want a YG kid, we get them. We've gotten Nolf, Nico, Cenzo and originally, Teasdale. Iowa's YG guys mins Spencer were guys that likely would have had to sit at some time during their career at PSU (even though they're all good)

no it's not.

(edit to clarify: it's not 'THE problem'. it's also not a false narrative.)
Imagine if you will oh, say Cenzo, setting up a dominant club in Des Moines, club colors are blue and white, superfluous pictures of famous Penn Staters festooned around, and said club makes regular trips nearly 800 miles to Rec Hall.

It would have an impact.

Im just glad DT is starting to build a monster for all the tough kids from the mountains to train at. I think it may be time for a satellite M2 training center in or around Saegertown - just to throw out an idea.
