Carter Starocci's injury - news, updates, and speculations

I don't know about anyone else that was at Rec Hall on Sunday, but you could have heard a pin drop when Carter limped off the mat. I buried my heart at Carter's wounded knee.
It was “no no no” followed by silence and a subdued crowd after.

I was on my feet clapping as Carter was helped off the mat, but I was completely alone, at least in my section, in doing so.

I said to my friend Dave before the match started, this is when you don't want any injuries so close to the post season. Hopefully no one gets hurt, then Carter gets injured. It's a shame that Carter didn't get his due Rec Hall send-off, but understandable with the circumstance.

Not asked or answered.

Questions were pretty scripted about all 10 guys. For Carter the lead in was “what effect is there for someone like Carter to have a lot of extra time before BIG and NCAA”…

Cael said it was great to have time to heal … Carter is a tough kid who has battled injuries while career… etc.

And “not as bad as we originally feared” which was about the only real news.
That last bit is about as good as we’re going to get out of Cael. More positive than he sounded about Nolf if I recall correctly

Healthy Carter doesn't need a seed. No need to risk anything.

Remember when Suriano was in the room wrestling but was really on crutches. Then they pulled him from NCAAs at the last minute. Exactly what I expected Cael would say. Coach speak is all that was. Once Carter steps on the mat for an actual match is when everyone will know

He’s got a better chance of wrestling at the tournament than your beloved AJ Ferrari

Lol that's all you've. Point was most coaches aren't gonna tell the fans he tore his knee up
Write in English, please. That first sentence is nonsensical.

We all saw what happened to his knee. We’ve also heard from good room sources (pretty much an unimpeachable source in 1 case) that he’s moving, he’s on the bike and most likely will forfeit Big 10s since there’s no reason to risk anything there in order to heal better for Nationals.

We will still kick the Hawkeyes heads in - don’t you fret.

Why be a jackass. I expect Penn st to win by 60 or more

I appreciate your contributions here (plenty of well liked Hawkeye homers here) but what kind of response did you think you would get from a PSU message board when you were more or less implying Cael's words can't be trusted and we shouldn't hold optimism for Carter right now?

This board already acknowledged Cael will just coach speak, doesn't mean his quotes won't be shared. Most of the optimism comes from alb409, direct source from the room who will forget more about PSU wrestling than he shares usually. If he was radio silent to date, we would be more worried.

Because you’re talking to us like we’re children. Of course it’s coach speak, but there are endless levels to Cael’s coach speak. Don’t you think we’ve gotten miles better at divining the truth out of the riddles spun by the Heber City Sphinx himself, Cael Sanderson, since Nicky Soppressata left town? Cael’s comments about Carter - as bland as they were - were like sunshine and ponies compared to his legendary “he’s downstairs drilling” comment

I have posted plenty here in the past and have never started shit. Also I'm not a Iowa fan I'm a fan of the sport. And depending on Carter 1st round opponent he might wrestle at Bigs and only take 1 injury default loss. The LCL heals fast and he's on the bike building his shape and working the soreness out. I was just pointing out that Cael isn't gonna give the fans any answers nor should he

I guess since you think I'm a Iowa fan I'm the enemy. Been posting here for years and have never talked shit. But I will move along .

I don’t think you like Penn State at all. I don’t have a Twitter account but those who do seem to suggest you post plenty of shit on there that would lead most of us to believe you don’t like Penn State at all.

I’m cool with plenty of Hawk fans who are thick skinned enough to post here. We generally have a few things in common - we don’t like the Ferrari family and think Bob Nicolls is a dirtbag.

I actually don't hate penn st at all . And get along well with the coaches actually just saw them a few weeks ago. Not sure what the Ferrari's have to do with anything but ok

Appreciate the CC Colt mentions.

I was a "guy in the room" for Coach Bob Craig in the late 1960's.
Apologize for going off topic, but I always enjoy hearing about Coach Craig.

My father in-law went to high school with Bob in Pottsville and always speaks glowingly of him. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, my daughter was honored to win the Bob Craig Memorial Scholarship when she graduated from Cedar Cliff. I have tremendous respect for him… would have really liked to have met him.

He was a memorable character. Grew up as an orphan I believe but he had real passion for life. Quite a wrestler himself who lost a close match in the Trials to narrowly miss going to the Olympics. Coached at Newport for a few years and went on to Cedar Cliff where he coached football and wrestling for many years with great success.

One of the most competitive persons I ever met. Not just coaching wrestling and football, but he would teach a PE class occasionally with a touch football game with regular students and play his butt off. Hated to lose even a game like that.

Didn't cuss that I ever heard, but when he said NUTS! everybody paid attention. Had this deep voice and could grow a beard in a hurry -- must have had testosterone levels off the charts. Sadly, he didn't live long after retirement.

Your daughter received a distinct honor to win a scholarship named after Coach Craig.

I think I literally hate him

Here's recently uncovered footage of Cruiseliner Nick downstairs drilling at the time. Turns out Cael was being truthful, and literal.

It's not his fault that we all heard what we wanted to hear and didn't ask the right follow up questions.

I’m wondering if you and I ever crossed paths way back in the past.

I didn’t go to CC but knew Bob Craig pretty well. He was a really good guy and I was very sorry when I heard that he had passed on. The last time I saw him in person was at the 1990 NCAA tournament that was held at Maryland that year. A couple of us were walking by a hotel room where the door was standing open and we saw him sitting on the edge of the bed. Most of us knew him so we all walked in and chatted with him for a while. I think he was still coaching at that time.

BTW, if you were at CC in the late 60s, you might remember my friend Kris Krieger. 😁

This. Cael doesn't say, not as bad as we thought, unless it's true.

Honestly, my biggest concern is that he could re-injure it in a match. That didn't happen with Nolf, but, it certainly could have. I'm just continuing to hope for the best.

Why do I envision Willie carrying a grenade and trident to a rumble like in Anchorman? Something tells me he fights really dirty. The Italian heritage and Easton upbringing is a volatile combo
Something tells me Willie calls his cousins to do his fighting for him.
