See the link below. From the article:

"He didn’t see the field in Pasadena and saw limited reps throughout the season after losing out on the starting quarterback job in fall camp, but Stevens kept a positive attitude during Penn State’s improbable run.

“A lot of success for the team is really all that matters,” Stevens said. “It’s been fun. When I get my chance, I try to make the most of it.”"

On the Iowa touchdown:

"“It was pretty funny,” he recalled. “I started running on the field and Trace started running off the field. I guess he thought I was going in to take over mid-series. I was like, ‘No, no, no stay.’ Then it clicked for him.

“I lined up in the slot, and there’s this mass confusion. Their defensive end just stood up, looked over and started pointing. Everybody was freaking out. They never really got it figured out because it was still madness when I was coming in motion. The rest just kind of happened.”

It wasn’t a play normally drawn up for backup quarterbacks, but in many ways Stevens isn’t a conventional No. 2. His dual-threat ability makes him a seamless fit for Joe Moorhead’s read-pass-option offense, and the size is a mismatch for most defenses."

On not being the starter:

"Stevens fell short of earning the No. 1 spot once before, but he’ll keep pushing for it.

“It was disappointing not to get the job. That’s what you work for,” Stevens said. “As far as accepting your role, it’s doing what you’ve got to do moving forward. You’ve got to accept your role. I wouldn’t necessarily say that it was okay, because I’m never accepting the backseat.

“I said earlier in the season that it didn’t really matter what happened. Whether I won or lost the job, I’d still work hard. I think I held true to that.”"

Stevens seems to be a great teammate. From a limited sampling, I like his game. McSorley is the starter, but I think Stevens could handle the job well if needed.

Great article. Thanks for posting. I just watched highlights from the Iowa game the other day and was reminded how great his TD run was.

I would have liked to see him play more against MSU...........in clean-up time. I would hope he would get an opportunity next year especially if the offense is.......sluggish. Wait for it..........................

What an all-round awesome guy to be around and have on the team. Never put his head down on not getting the starting nod.. and when he was called upon, he made quite the splash! Class act all the way. Wishing him all the success in the world!

Would love to see JoMo incorporate Stevens into our "short-yardage" and "goal-line" offenses - I think he gives defenses a dramatically different look from the "wildcat" and he could potentially be on the field at the same time as Trace which should give the defense absolute fits given the run/pass option they both present. Maybe even use both on the field for 1 or 2 series a half as well as short-yardage situations....

I really hope that he gets in the first half with some interesting plays. I also hope that he gets in for the second half once we are 2+ tds ahead. With or running quarterback type offense we need experience in the QB position.

I was thinking the "Tebow package" of plays he was involved in his first year at Florida when Chris Leak was the starter. Short yardage wildcat with some read option plays. I hate rotating qbs but showing that package early on would make opposing teams prepare for it. Or run it out there for the first time vs OSU when it's needed.

Also seems feasible given that Stevens is good enough athlete and running/receiving threat to line up in a traditional "flanker" position in the backfield (PSU could also motion him to the shotgun and have Trace relocate to flanker). Stevens would cause real problems for a defense if inserted into the game as one of the 6 eligible receivers in short yardage and goal-line situations.

Hope...and trust...staff will find ways to give him significant PT this season.
