Chase Young gets 2 games

Let me start off by saying that I would expect Tosu to beat Penn State without chase young. With or without him, Tosu is better. With that said, this situation with Tosu and young disgusts me. Reading gene smith’s bullshit about Tosu and young makes me hate this sport. As far as I’m concerned, let Penn State just continue Success With Honor. We won’t be at the top, but we’ll win enough, we’ll graduate our players, and we’ll simply do it the right way, the Penn State Way. Screw the rest. Being elite isn’t worth selling your soul.

When you see this kind of crap being allowed, expected, and even commended, the game isn’t worth the investment of my time and money. I have a Pokémon GO event from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. on Saturday. I’ll hang out with friends and play Pokémon GO instead of stopping my life to watch football. Whatever.

If it's against the rules, it's against the rules.
And that's why he's being suspended 2 games for it. But the bigger question is, why is it a rule in the first place? Thank God these players are getting paid here in the near future.

Ahh, there's that "holier than thou" mentality I've grown so accustomed of seeing. You wanted it to be an agent so bad, you wanted OSU to vacate wins so bad, you wanted him to be suspended for the rest of the season so bad, but it wasn't any of that and now you're complaining that it's unfair and OSU skates. What's really unfair is that this was a 2 game suspension and not a 0 game suspension.

If you look hard enough, you can find a conspiracy in just about everything.

The NCAA is a JOKE for suspending him "indefinitely" in the first place. What did Young do? He borrowed money from a family friend to fly his girlfriend to the Rose Bowl back in January, then paid the loan back over the summer.
Um, yeah..the exact definition of an improper benefit. And where did he get the money to pay it back? Another “family friend”?

NCAA/B10 deep state. The guilty has to be punished but they can't take a chance of their "cash cow" losing. I'm sure Rutgers is breathing a big sigh of relief.

Do you at least admit that OSU self-reported before their two easiest conference games of the season, banking on a two game suspension?

It's a rule because otherwise a "friend" could offer an athlete a no interest $200K loan that is only due when they get their NFL signing bonus. Obviously, you see why that is a problem. I hope....

"Thank God these players are getting paid here in the near future"
I strongly disagree. I'd rather see things go the other direction (glorified club sports) than to this quasi-pro model.

How do you know it wasn't an agent? We still don't know who this person was, correct?

Obviously, you are outraged.

I don’t understand why Herbstreit feels the need to explain the logic that went into the 2 game suspension. Was he in the room deciding his fate? Kirk, next time just a one liner to report the news : This just in : Young suspended 2 games.

thanks

These players have been getting paid plenty all along. They get a scholarship. They get to keep any Pell Grant money they qualify for even though tuition, room and board are covered. They now have the attendance stipend. I like the lie about they don't even have money for pizza. Walk around a facility. The players have access to free food all day every day. This is all within the rules. These guys do not suffer economically. If his girlfriend needed $5,000 to go to California and didn't have it, she should have stayed home.

This isn't an tOSU issue. This is a much bigger problem.

Yes, PSU suspends a player one game for spitting and Young gets one more game for breaking NCAA rules...either walk the walk or just admit your program is a cheating football factory....don’t try to BS everyone like Gene Smith is doing.

Of course they self reported before those two games. But not because they sat on information like so many people think.

Also that comparison is completely off base and not even remotely the same as what happened. 200k$? Paying them back once they get to the NFL? Both of those are so, so much worse.

There's more information to suggest it wasn't an agent than to say it was. Holding out hope that is was an agent (because you desperately want it to be) isn't going to help you.

Good points but they apparently aren't getting money to have their girlfriends come see them play in the Rose Bowl. They're still broke college kids basically.

The purpose of the rule is immaterial. The rule is the rule - you break it, and you should pay a penalty. So, what is going to happen in the future is immaterial to what happened in ....2018 and is being adjudicated (sic) in 2019.

I don't think God cares that these players are getting paid in the near future. But you may know more about what God finds thankful than others do.

Does Rutgers really count as a game? Young probably would've been pulled when you went ahead 42-0 with 12 minutes left in the second quarter anyway

That’s a girlfriend problem, not a player problem.

What information is that exactly? Mr Young's word?

Unless you know who the $$ man was, you have no idea if he was an agent or not. And if he was an agent, I'm certain that OSU had some other non-agent "friend" volunteer that it was actually he who lent the $$.

I think Herbstreit must be thinking of moving back to Ohio. He needs to get in good with the locals so they don’t stalk his wife at the grocery store again. He has to remove the “fake buckeye” label they gave him a few years ago.

This year Herbstreit has gone from generally being professional in his work to being an outright cheerleader for OSU.

Well I would imagine that the players have constant reminders that taking a loan is against the rules. Someone at OSU most likely - and perhaps it was Chase - sat on this until right before their 2 easiest games. This was most likely a 1-2 game suspension so it played out perfectly. Similar to osu arguing several years ago let our players play in a bowl but suspend them for multiple game’s the following year when it was clear several of those players were never coming back.

And although I don’t think psu matches up
Well this year I would rather play vs a full strength team. I think they lose regardless but they play the games for a reason.

This was just cleared with the NCAA. If you think it was an agent, then you are also saying this is a huge cover up between OSU and the NCAA and yea that's not going to happen.

Remember everyone that we are talking about a program where their starting QB does not attend a single class on campus,... all on-line classes. O$U is now and always has been a professional team without a salary cap. Chase Young should have been suspended no more than 2 games for nothing else than breaking a rule that he absolutely knew was in place. Yes, the rule is probably silly and needs to be adjusted somehow; but he knew what he was doing put him at risk. Any chance he had a a Heisman run is now off the table so he has suffered enough. I'm just curious who loaned him the money to pay back the other person that loaned him the money.

Hey remember this clever little prank Fleming pulled right after he announced he was going to become a nut?

It's really not that funny, when everyone knows it's true.... While he may not have gotten the vehicle from Brutus, something got him to switch over to the dark side... and given his gf or xgf is Penn St. student, I highly doubt it was free airline tickets to the "vacated bowl."

College players taking online classes is trending further up. Now you're trying to make that a conspiracy? Dear lord.

Chase Young gets 2 games, as was pretty much expected, he'll be back for our game vs. tOSU. We'd best be prepared to deal with him.

https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio...eturn-for-ohio-states-game-against-penn-state

As I posted before, the NCAA is always willing to act when it doesn't matter.
If OSU had lost, it would be easy to act.
As it worked out, OSU asked for a 2 game suspension and UMD/Rutgers don't matter.
That was easy.
The funny part is now he'll have fresh legs after 2 weeks off and be fresh for Nov 23.
Couldn't have worked out much better. It's almost as if the B1G tries to take care of a couple select schools or something
