It's interesting that, although everyone on this media, share a common bond with each other, we still find ways to insult and alienate each other. We are....Penn State!!! I plead with you to act like it guys.

You need to lower your expectations. It's interesting that, although everyone on this media, share a common bond with each other, we still find ways to insult and alienate each other. We are....Penn State!!! I plead with you to act like it guys.

Threads were mostly about Penn State football and little about pro sports teams and very few OT threads back then. This board was incredibly civil in the Plotit days. After that, commercial considerations ruled.

Your thanksgiving dinners sound intersecting grandpa.Or with a niece or nephew who demands you think the way they do, change everything because everything is bad and has to be changed and don't disagree or they will bring out the label maker. A family talks children ignore.
They are, but we always have each others back, once you alienate someone over politics, religion etc. it's not worth it life is short.Your thanksgiving dinners sound intersecting grandpa.![]()
This happens everywhere. There is usually one or two emotionally sensitive individuals that react poorly to ideas or opinions they disagree with. It happens in person as well. We have a guy like that in our tailgating group. Most people haven't actually talked to him in years because he isn't worth the effort.I won't call anyone out by their handle. But during a discussion, a poster here called me a jack*ss, moron and such simply because I had a difference of opinion. It's puzzling to me why people have to resort to name calling and insults to present their position.
This message board is a microcosm of American society. We live in an angry, arrogant, self-centered, greedy, intolerant culture. Civility is a distant memory. It's interesting that, although everyone on this media, share a common bond with each other, we still find ways to insult and alienate each other. We are....Penn State!!! Why should I have to apologize for always being right! This message board is a microcosm of American society. We live in an angry, arrogant, self-centered, greedy, intolerant culture. Civility is a distant memory.

That’s news to me, at least on this board. It’s not that hard to get along with people. Sometimes you reach the point where you need to say, “We’re going to have to agree to disagree,” but that’s okay. I used to be that guy who needed to win every argument here, but I got over that. I also got over the need to react to the slightest provocation, real or imagined.Civility is a distant memory.
Engineers are boring, except those electrical guys. I always get a charge out of them.Civil?!?!
No way. I'm a Mechanical Engineer 🤓
You wanna see civility at its finest? Head on over to the moron...excuse me test board!

There have been many times when I've typed a reply to a ridiculous or way OT post but thought, "Is my post really worth the effort? Is the topic really so important that I need to offer my two cents?" If the answers are "no" then I don't make the post and delete the draft. I find myself doing that a lot lately. That’s news to me, at least on this board. It’s not that hard to get along with people. Lol, I delete a good half of my responses. Maybe doing it this way serves as a way to let off steam. There have been many times when I've typed a reply to a ridiculous post but thought, "Is my post really worth the effort? To address that everyone’s username should be their real name. Responsibility not anonymity. IMHOPeople are going to insult and belittle those they disagree with here because they can say things safely that they would never say in person for fear of physical peril and/or actual repercussions.
Add in the arrogance that comes with everyone here being educated and most here wielding a little bit of power in their everyday lives and you've got a board full of entitled experts of every subject that don't have to be civil.
Find myself doing this as well. Some of the just plain stupid posts get me riled up and I instantly reply, but then think the better of it. I try to refrain from calling people names as well as this is IMO something you do when you have nothing to back up your argument. There have been many times when I've typed a reply to a ridiculous or way OT post but thought, "Is my post really worth the effort? I thought so to and said the same thing a few years ago. You can definitely see it bleeding on to both this site and the Den.It needs to go. The rhetoric over there - championing race wars and violence and promoting misinformation for political gain - is disgusting and bleeds into regular threads. Like Art said, it only exists to make money. It’s an embarrassment to the good BWI/McAndrew name and is basically 4chan for this demographic.

Civility is a thing of the past. Being Polite is no longer in fashion , sad to say. Have a great day. It's interesting that, although everyone on this media, share a common bond with each other, we still find ways to insult and alienate each other. We are....Penn State!!! I sent an email to Nate several months ago sharing that sentiment, and never received a response…if it went away, I’d sign up for premium here, but refuse to financially support a site/network that sponsors such a forum. It needs to go.
