clemson vs. Tosu -- Sugar Bowl/CFP Semifinal game thread

"Targeting" has only been around since 2013, but "spearing" (which is what happened on that play) was banned in the mid-1970's, as a result of the spinal injuries incurred by players ducking their heads and leading with the top of their helmet like a "spear." Spearing is part of the targeting rule.
Up until 7 or 8 years ago they never called defenders for leading in with their helmet, especially below the numbers. Ask yourself one question, would that tackle have resulted in a flag let alone an ejection just 7 or 8 years ago? Not even close, heck they were hesitant about calling a helmet to helmet.

If you take off your PSU hoodie for a few hours, it’s actually quite pleasurable to watch OSU in all facets coaching, play calling, warriorship, execution, fundamentals, coaching. I’m enjoying the show.

Same here.

I've always been a Michigan hater first. Always. F*** those guys.

Ohio State? Meh. They're a superior program, and that's just the way it is. While many of their fans are absolute wastes of oxygen, the OSU football program doesn't bother me. They are what they are -- a semi-pro team of sorts. Just like Bama and Clemson.

OSU is calling a masterful game on offense. Long way to go, but this offense is something else to watch.

Agree

It's not over.

I’m not saying it is. Lawrence is an unreal qb. But at some point Dabo has to get called out for adding bulletin board material for a team that has talent up and down the roster. Being confident in your team is one thing. Flat out telling the team you are playing in the semi final game that they don’t deserve to be there multiple times might not be the way to go.

Also...don’t forget they lost their defensive qb with the targeting call for the second half. So is it over? No...is the fat lady warming up...maybe.

I really wasn’t looking forward to seeing either team win tonight but it feels pretty good watching Clemson get stomped at this point.

Also, I don’t remember seeing OSU’s tight ends all year. Day obviously saw something in his game planning. Love when you can actually see a plan take shape.
