I find it funny as hell that a Pitt guy starts to bitch about a confederate flag on an rv, tweets it out and recruits see it. Now we are all racist lol, what? Have any of you been to an SEC game? Confederate flags flying all over but let it be at psu.....,,,

As tasteless as flying that flag is, it's even more tasteless to be a Pitt clown.

Hasn't anyone been to the south? From Maryland to Georgia

you'll see the confederate flag everywhere...on back windows of car, hanging from houses, businesses, etc. No saying it is right, but go to an SEC game and you'll see the flag, that surely doesn't stop any player from considering those schools. Good lord, faux internet outrage. Get a life.

Apparently the poster never watched the Dukes of Hazzard **

Confederate Flag is a part of History,

shouldn't be destroyed or forgotten. If we don't read and understand History, we continue to make the same mistakes. (and we do continue to make the same mistakes)

That flag has no place in our society. Except maybe a

A Museum. The south will never rise again, get over it

If the Pitt guy's efforts were supposed to derail our recruiting,

it doesn't seem to have worked.

And, it's ironic that we're racist, but we've got the black head coach. Maybe the Pitt guy is hoping nobody notices that.

I would suggest education, but that won't work with people brought up in an environment of hate, listening to fairy tales that some moonshined family members have turned into "history", and who spend their days on the manure spreading wagon.

A part of history that MANY gave their lives to rid from existence....

...nothing wrong with reading about the confederate flag -- and seeing pictures -- in history books, but the flag should NOT be flow.

The south should have won the war if they wanted that flag flown.

Re: A part of history that MANY gave their lives to rid from existence....

I have to chuckle when i read posts of people today judging people from over 150 years ago when just about 35-40 years ago we as a nation were still requiring African American people to drink from separate water fountains and attend different schools. Our nation (north, south, east and west) did a horrible job of treating people for many, many years and in ways we still have a long way to go. Racism and bigotry is not isolated to the south or anywhere for that matter.

Just 50 years ago we had to pass a federal law guaranteeing

things like non-discrimination in public accomodations and voting rights and STILL we had to fight it over and over in the south but elsewhere too. And in every single one of those fights with VERY few exceptions, the confederate flag was used as a rallying symbol. These people should not try to describe what it stands for. I have seen what it stands for.

Re: Just 50 years ago we had to pass a federal law guaranteeing

Yes...exactly. We all know what it stands for...although I cannot assume it means the same thing to every person. I for one would never own one or fly one but I also realize this is America. We have certain freedoms even if we don't always like what someone else does. I am fearful when people starting wanting symbols and other things banned...we don't live in China or the Soviet Union. This is America and even if I don't like you or your symbol, a lot of people have died to give us those freedoms. Freedom of Speech, Freedom to express ourselves.

it's a good way to let people know where ignorant people are tailgating**

we have our share of a$$holes in our fan-base... and then some - I have seen it with my own eyes, hell I even participated in it quite a few times back in the eighties and early-nineties...

as you grow-up, you learn to become the type of tailgater you would want to have next to you and your family... I don't think it's anything other than that

Pitt fans should be more concerned with getting people to their spring game

All they do is obsess, and make up nonsense they know is false.

Anyone displaying a Confederate flag from a vehicle or their home is demonstrating their intellect.

Put it in a museum, fly it at southern buildings, battlefields, use it in history show and tell.

It was disappointing to see that flag flying in the frat area tailgates. Pretty stupid and insensitive for college kids. It is even more stupid however, for the Pitt moron to generalize it to the entire university.

I certainly think the government has no business saying you cannot fly that

flag. But that is where the first amendment stops. If, for example I got the next tailgate slot and made a huge sign which said RACISTS with an arrow pointing to their tailgate, certainly none of these "heritage, not hate" folks would make any bones about it, right?:)

That would be very presumptuous on your part **

F em. I have first amendment rights too. Sorry this offends your

sense of conservative political correctness.

I didn't say that you didn't have rights...

I just stated that you might be wrong...

You would probably be arrested, like the guy who snatched the vulgar sign from Bicycle Bernie the drunk at Joe's Statue, then University Police were sent to protect the turd. I wonder if the town police protect him while he's stealing Collegians from the honor boxes and defacing them with vulgarities in red ink.

The pitt guy better not drive south. By the time you hit Virginia on I-81 there's a huge (?10 ft x 10 ft?) confederate flag flying right along the highway. Can't possibly miss it. That said, the way people hold on to that flag is ridiculous. It symbolizes the fight for slavery. You lost. Let it go already.......

I think you may just be breaking a law if you were to do that.

What would your proof be that someone flying a Confederate Flag is racist?

Anyone putting that on a vehicle or their house doesn't have the highest intellect. What do the Neo Nazis carry beside their Nazi flags? They never miss a march without a confederate flag. Just listening to them open their mouths is all the proof you need.

Don't think so. You know that first amendment goes both ways.

I suppose anyone with a filing fee could sue me for defamation. Fine. But breaking a criminal law? don't think so.

Nothing presumptuous about it at all. They're advertising it themselves....

...by flying the flag. They're also advertising that they are, and/or support losers.

Some Pitt fans are unbelievably ignorant.

And stupid. (Just re-read some of the Pitt thread about this.)

The ONLY reason ANYONE flies a "confederate" flag is to announce they are bigots. Saw a bumper sticker on a "pick-up truck" in Florida with "Where is Lee Harvey Oswald when we need him". Really???? Remember the average IQ is 98 !!!!

The nonsense about Lincoln, states rights, slavery, etc. is ONLY a distractor for the the real REASON :) people fly that flag today.

That's EXACTLY what they want to convey

It's not illegal to be a racist so they are not breaking any law.
(Though that bumper sticker may be borderline it is not explicit enough to be legally considered serious incitement.)

Like some on this board the flag people are just announcing their ignorance and hiding their real motives since it is no longer PC to be a bigot in polite company, otherwise, they would be wearing white robes and burning crosses since that is legal too. (There is something to be said for PC.)

I do agree not against the law in either case. But it clearly says "who" that person is. For me. I'm crossing the street and rolling up my windows every time. In short "nothing to see here, move along".
