Sad that I think we might be less than 500...Being in that environment, the best in all of sports, I don’t know how we could even lose a game.

Who do we typically play during white outs?

first, a definition. The student section first did a whiteout in 2004. The first stadium-wide whiteout was in 2007. I'll only include the stadium-wide whiteouts in the answer.

2007: Notre Dame (PSU won 31-10)
2008: Illinois (PSU won 38-24)
2009: Iowa (PSU lost 24-10)
2011: Alabama (PSU lost 27-11)
2012: Ohio State (PSU lost 35-23)
2013: Michigan (PSU won 43-40 in 4 OTs)
2014: Ohio State (PSU lost 31-24 in 1st OT)
2015: Michigan (PSU lost 28-16)
2016: Ohio State (PSU won 24-21)
2017: Michigan (PSU won 42-13)
2018: Ohio State (PSU lost 27-26)

Thought 05 vs osu was the first student white out following the failed code blue of previous years?

I'm pretty sure the 1st student whiteout was in 2004 against Purdue, with the second in 2005 against Ohio State.
What about the Nebraska game in 2002? Earlier Nebraska took over Notre Dame stadium with a sea of red. PSU organized something called "Operation Visine - get the red out".

If I recall correctly, PSU didn't organize Operation Visine. That was something that was organized by fans. The concern was that Nebraska fans, who had a history of traveling in large numbers to away games, would be a large "red" presence in Beaver Stadium. Operation Visine was a combo of let's sell the stadium out, don't sell your tickets to Nebraska fans, and PSU fans were encouraged to wear blue (not white).

IIRC Code Blue was only done once for the Nebraska game. Something like Keep the red out and it was very successful.
Far more successful that Sat. night's game because there were way too many OSU fans in my section.

Don’t remind me about those crappy weather nights in 08 and 09.

Those were great atmospheres sell besides the way 09 played out. But when guido ran the music it was way better than the shit now
Funny, I was thinking on Saturday night that as good of a job as Guido did, I think that P.J. has taken it to another level.

People forget that we, the students, did a student whiteout in 05 for Wisconsin too. I actually sold my ticket for $100 on my way in the stadium AFTER we were already up, I think, 14-0. Only time I did that, but at the time I couldn't turn down $100.

I think W-L records for official White Outs are misleading given the recency of the sample size and that these tend to happen against the highest-quality teams on the schedule. The program struggled from 2011 to 2016, and looking at those opponents (particularly Ohio State), you can't ask for much better than .500.
