Newflash..... you're arrogance is showing in this post. I came in peace and you had to go there. I didn't claim this rumor was true, only reported what I heard. Why the snark?
First, kids are kids there could be 100 reasons why he wants to transfer and come home, and Wrestlers that are his kinda good can win National Championships anywhere practicing in any room. This isn't football.
Second, He has not used his redshirt and if he came to Rutgers,or any school in the Big Ten for that matter, he could use his redshirt in his conference transfer sit out year instead of losing a competitve year and lose zero eligibility.
And yes Rutgers is a lesser program to Mighty Penn state, but lets not make pretend that Rutgers isnt a top 10 quality program in the country that is on the rise. This isnt Monmouth or Cal Poly he would potentially be transferring to. A move to Rutgers, or any Big Ten School, provides him the same path against the same competition that Penn State would.
I don't know why you are upset. Is it because I called Rutgers a lesser program than Penn State? Is that arrogance or just an accurate assessment of the relative strengths of the program? And you agree with the assessment.
The huge question remains - why would Nick give up a year of eligibility to wrestle at what is, by your own admission, a lesser program?
And others have pointed out the other obvious problem. If he wants to reach his full potential, he will go where he gets the best competition in the room and the best coaching. If you don't think the competition in the room doesn't help development, I don't know what to say to you. Anecdotally, I wrestled in a high school room primarily against my coach, who was a PSAC winner, a 185 pounder who gave a PA state champ a tough match and a two time placewinner as a PA Hwt. If you don't think I got a lot better as a wrestler because of that, again, I don't know what to say to you.
Really, Rutgers makes less sense than Iowa or Ohio State as a transfer destination within B1G (better programs with better rooms and coaching) except for the claim about homesickness, which seems kind of spurious in its own right. Others have pointed out that State College is about 3.5 hours from Bergen County. Hell, Rutgers is close to an hour from Paramus depending on traffic. He's a young man, a little extra driving isn't going to bother him that much.
So, yeah, your "First" is dead wrong. Historical data argues against you. Kids have the best chance of winning championships, which I am pretty sure is Nick's goal, at better programs. Your "Second" is factually incorrect. Finally, yes, Rutgers has improved a lot since they joined the Big Ten, but they are a long way from the level of PSU, Iowa, OSU and tOSU at present.
