Don't shoot the messenger.

Not everyone from Jersey smells like dead fish. Not everyone from Iowa marries their cousin. However the stereotypes originate from somewhere, and thats from a lot of Jersey folks smelling like dead fish, and a lot of Iowans being into their cousins.

I have a love/hate relationship with Jersey. I certainly enjoy the beaches and boardwalks. I hate getting a picture of the ass end of my car going through their poorly lit toll booths. There's definitely a racket there.
I had a thing with a lovely Jersey girl in high school who was visiting relatives. We've reconnected in the last couple years but the romance has not grown legs. In looking at her Facebook posts (and I say this being half Sicilian myself), I suspect I'm not guido enough (and don't want to be)..............As for Nick Suriano, love the kid, that would sting a bit if true, and yet, I slept good last night.

Im trying to envision these Jersey posters yelling at their screens with their heavy accents, fake tans and slicked back hair.. I better not say to much or some guy named Paulie is going to pay me a visit with a bat in one hand and a hoagie sandy in the other. ;)

Hoagies are a Philly thing, not a Jersey thing. You'd have trouble even finding a sandwich called a hoagie north of 195.

Careful, Turk. If you can't keep your Jersey stereotypes straight, someone might hit you the head with a Taylor ham and cheese.:)

The guy who started with the (false) stereotypes whining about being stereotyped. At least he's decent at his passive aggressive jealousy of PSU wrestling.

Im not whining! Im happy and having fun on a Sunday while at work getting paid double time to post on message boards. Im also not jealous.. and i prefer to be aggressivly passive not passively aggressive. 21guns has rubbed off on you too much!

If Nick has been in the Rutgers wrestling room rolling around that would explain the rumors. Someone put 2 and 2 together and calculated 22.
If he is in their room rolling around without Penn State's knowledge and consent that would be tampering.
If he is in their room rolling around with Penn State's knowledge that means Cael is OK with Nick getting some work in with the Rutgers guys or Cael has already released him from Penn State.

Doubt to the nth degree there is any tampering.
Gotta believe if he was released the guys on the team would know and word would be out.
If logic and reasoning is applied the most logical conclusion is the kid is getting some work in as a guest of the Rutgers staff and with Cael's knowledge and blessing.

GTFO with your logic and reasoning. What kind of message board do you think this is?

Takin a break from shucking the corn to post on the boards Turk? ;)

Kidding aside, I'd like your gig.

Hoping my Iowa and Jersey ribbing haven't been interpreted as mean spirited. I'm just trying to have fun. And who doesn't love a good Jersey joke or Field of Dreams joke?

Hey, this sure beats PSU Iowa fans throwing dirt at each other's coaches or athletes, doesn't it?

I still take my cue from The Mat. Posts about PDIII, McKenna, Meija, Macri, but not even a rumor based thread about Suriano.

For the sake of this thread:confused:, let's say the rumor is true. When would we find out as fans? If not true, when would you expect him to return to campus?

Here is what I think after reading this stuff:
1) Rutgers is committed to wrestling and they are doin a terrific job.
2) Penn State Wrestling is on another level, right now.
3) What happened to Nick was terrible. Had to tick him off.
4) Young men channel their emotions in different ways.
5) I would not want to be the first guy to wrestle Nick when he gets back on the mat. When that foot heals, look out

So like, what's the message in this thread?? Fans bored out of their minds.

The message for me has been "truly, the best things in life are free"

More thread drift:

I miss the old Yankee Stadium with $2.50 general admission as late as 1981. Can't bring myself to go to the new one after all the seat license fees, etc. It's not that long ago (ok, maybe it is a long time ago) you could hop on the subway for $.50, pack some food and beverage and catch a game for $3.50 a person for the day. That probably wouldn't even get you a bag of peanuts today.

Suriano? I hope for his sake the rumor is baseless and I think it makes very little more than zero sense, maybe even less than zero I'd hate to see him get only two more full years of wrestling after the way last year ended with the injury.

More thread drift: I think Less than Zero was a really underrated 80's movie.

Don't you dare hijack this thread with logic, it's just getting good... o_O

I will be concerned if Cael is visiting Pat Glory on July 1st.

I think hoagies are an everywhere in America thing. Give me my sammich!

You have to get out more. In NJ, they are subs. In eastern PA, definitely hoagies. New England, I think, and verified by this link, calls them grinders.

Btw, if you go to the PSU/Rutgers match, my vote for the best sub in North NJ is the Tastee Sub Shop in Edison about 10 minutes from the RAC. Definitely my prematch stop. #5 with hot peppers is the choice.

My son and I saw Nick lose to Arujau at the Journeymen's event in the fall of 2015. A kid sitting next to us said "I pity anyone in NJ this season" when Nick lost. He will be on a mission.

I didn't click the links, but ...
A grinder in Philly typically means the roll is toasted (sometimes while sandwich is as well)

They are called hoagies in South Jersey as well

Didn't say that was all Iowa had. But Iowa produces corn and is land locked. Not stereotypes and I wasn't personally insulting its people like you were.

Look, you're trying to get a rise and I obliged. It's just that it gets really old and tired. Most of this country's tomatoes and blueberries come from NJ. But most people think all it leads in producing is toxic waste. Strikes a nerve with some of us to continually hear falsehoods, that's all.
Why does Iowa get all the corn-love anyway? Nebraska literally named their mascot after corn.

I was an Olde Queens frequenter when I was in grad school at Rutgers. At that time, Rutgers had a pub in the basement of the one of the buildings (subsidized alcohol consumption - you don't see that anymore) but it closed at 11. Post-pub was at historic Olde Queens Tavern.

I lived in San Diego for 30 years and there is no way I would have considered trading that experience to live in the "greatest city in the world.". San Diego makes living on the East coast look like a sentence to a gulag.

A gulag with culture, diversity and an ocean you can go into without a wetsuit, none of which does San Diego have. San Diego has good weather and people bitching about "cold weather" when the temp ventures below 70. ;) The place can't even keep professional sports teams in town.

I remember driving thru the country from Eastern PA to Western Nevada on route 80 and going thru Nebraska. Boring!!! The highway was perfectly straight to the horizon. The corn field would be on the right the soy bean on. 20 miles down the road would be be the big switch soy bean on right corn on left. What made it worst was if you behind a hog truck. Brutal.!

From my Bloomsburg days in the 1980s . I can remember eating more than one grinder at Barrigans at 1am . I think they were called a sub if you didn't heat it.

Route 80 in Nebraska isn't even what I would consider an US interstate highway. It's like something in a remote part of Pennsylvania or New York state. No rest stops, no gas or food on the road. And only 87 octane gas available if you did get off 80 for gas. But, yeah, flat and boring. Iowa at least has some rolling hills and lots of windmills. A staggering number of windmills, actually.

The financial capital of the world, drive to beaches and ski resorts, 9 (!) professional sports teams, 3 international airports to get you directly to places from Mumbai to Tokyo, incredible surrounding towns in 3 states to build a career and raise a family....San Diego is a great town with an awesome beach, New York is an international crown jewel of the western world along with London and Paris. Or as we've learned you can also live in Iowa....

Yeah Nebraska is a brutal drive. I hate that state. In defense of I-80 however you must realize the Engineers built the road in the flatest possible locations for a reason. To save effort/money/time. The views arent great but the road is efficient.

Mumbai,Tokyo, San Diego, New York, London,Paris, Iowa. Fair comparison.

You realize you can get to all of those places from Iowa aswell right? Have you even been to Iowa? Let me guess, you either flew over or stayed on I-80 looking at Cows, corn and soybeans.

It's like Iran but less safe, at least that's what Foley said.

You have to come to a real place first, which was kindof the point. But hey you've got a view of the Mississippi River.
