Don't shoot the messenger.

Out of the top 10 in Gulibon's class, he had he 2nd best college wrestling career. Tsirtis was #1 in that class. Maybe the 2012 class just wasn't very good.

This is true. But Jimmy does remain aberrational among PSU's top recruits. You can see Cael improving with his recruiting results over the years, imo. His hit rate has gone up significantly.

Good to see Christian Pyles characterize the Suriano rumors as "far-fetched", btw.

There was an abnormally high amount of busts in the top 10 but there were a lot of guys who ended up being very good.

Agree about the rumor being far fetched. Done deal, only hurdle is being eligible this season. Well B1G transfer rules require forfeiting a year of eligibility unless a waiver is granted. Cannot see any way PSU would agree to a waiver for a transfer to Rutgers. Now if the rumor was Suriano was transferring to Rider there is little PSU could to stop it besides Suriano having to sit this season and pay his own way. Going to a B1G school without the waiver, forfeit a year of competition.

The 2012 class was good, it just so happens to be that a lot of great wrestlers were outside the top 10.

I have read on this list multiple times that the loss of year cannot be waived by the previous school--i.e., if you transfer as an undergrad, you will sit a year.

Manhattan is one of the safest large cities there is. I've been here since 1990 and it's only gotten safer over that time, not coincidentally as it progressively got less affordable. Only reasonable fear, Gebmo, is that your daughter becomes a Rangers fan.

Agree, I've been commuting into Manhattan since 1995 and it's very safe. What a lot of people don't realize is there are roughly 35,000 uniformed police officers in NYC, which is roughly 3x that of Chicago's or LA's. The number of sidewalk vagrants has increased considerably since de Blasio was voted into office, but you rarely see any crime.

Less affordable housing = less crime?

Born and raised in NYC, have lived in 3 boroughs, now live in NJ but still work there. It's safe to an extent. Be aware of your surroundings and learn to be an observer of people. Don't mouth off unless you're prepared to back it up, particularly in the subway. Jogging in the park alone past 10pm is stupid. You may think you're safe but you're really not--you've just been fortunate. Only 50% of homeless people on the street actually want your food. The super large cockroaches are a real thing as are the rats scurrying about on the street late at night (walking through the side streets).

@Gebmo, your daughter should be fine. Good Luck to her.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is appreciated and helps alleviate some of the uncertainty.

I guess after growing up in the suburbs and then spending 4 years in Tempe (which is great, but to me kind of like a country club, not a city), I have to trust in her using some common sense which she seems to have….though she likes to run and won’t be far from the park.

All I remember about central park is visiting NY in the 70’s & 80's…when it seemed to us outsiders that it was dangerous to go to even during the day. :D

I've been trying to make sense out of this whole thing, and finally had a revelation. There is only one reason that Suriano would want to transfer to RU. It has nothing to do with wrestling, homesickness, National Championships, none of that.
It boils down to this. He watched the Penn State v. Rutgers football game last November and thought the RU student section could use a little help next time around:

Why doesn't somebody from BWI look into this so we can stop all of these stupid posts?

I can say that various members of the wrestling media have attempted to get a hold of both sides of this since the tweet came out. I am also told the sports media that cover PSU, NJ wrestling have reached out to the sides.

My opinion.... I dont put much stock in him transferring, but i do think there is a tension between the parties that needs released.

My opinion.....on the transfer talk is that it is some sneaky squirrel stuff by rutgers. this could be staff, boosters, wrestlers, whatever. But its my thoughts they dont mind poking the bear in state college with regard to the transfer stuff.

many wrestlers attend class in the summer, an easy way to either stoke the flames or end this story is if Nails in SC right now for class.

we saw how fast JLowe got smacked down on the mcfadden thing, the silence of the parties to date says something is up.

then again, Im not a journalist so I could be full of complete BS.

Because the tail doesn't wag the dog. It's same reason why it's ridiculous to think that Nick or Cael would even address this. BWI, Nick, and Cael can't address every ridiculous message board rumor.

Anyone that thinks anybody should look into this has an inflated sense of how much power this message board has.

I remember an an article about Suriano which detailed a very intense workout regimen. Is it possible Nick would rather just be home in the summer and work out on his own?

True! Nothing wrong with a kid going home in the summer... it is not like they worry he will slack off!
