Don't shoot the messenger.

Good to hear!! Hoping CPyles did some homework and verified this rather than just his opinion/rumor like Willie tweeted out a few days ago to start this mess

Looks like Gobblin wrong again..he's like 0 for last 8 rumors and counting..amazing how some of the smart posters on HR look to this dude as an insider

lol @ me starting this.

You kidding? What's so funny. If you didn't put that tweet out, no one would have mentioned this stuff.

You are one of the main figure heads of IMO the main wrestling site in the country. I like many others follow you on twitter. When you tweet a "rumor," it's not far fetched to think you (who is IN the industry) has some info that actually has some legs and it carries much more weight than JoeSchmo does on a message board.

You need to realize, you are representing the #1 wrestling website and people are going to take anything you say seriously.

You may have not started the "rumor," but you tweeting it out gave the rumor much more validity.

8 pages ... hard to believe

Maybe for you it's hard to believe, but you have access to info most of us don't have. In other words, if I were Cael's best friend, I wouldn't care either knowing I can get the info right from the main guy.

For many of us, our info is coming from the main wrestling websites including FLO who is my number #1 source of info. When my #1 source, has their main man tweeting a "rumor" that one of my favorite wrestlers is leaving, it creates a buzz

Agree with everything said...though in today's world, the advice fits for Anywhere, USA. Well done.

Tell me about it. My soon-to-be sophomore daughter is moving to an apartment building across the street from campus and I'm not particularly thrilled. I know she's fairly safe but still there's something about being on campus that makes me feel a bit better.

Well, RU fans seem to be believe this was going to happen and still may. Isn't it odd that this is like the 3rd wrestler, 2nd NJ wrestler in a year that RU claims is transferring to their program from PSU? A little tampering going on behind the scenes?

Exactly. The tweet served little purpose other than to get people talking. And if it turned out to be true, Flo could claim to have been one of the early ones to be on top of it. But Willie was smart to say "[I have] no idea how legit it is" -- it relieves him of any culpability should the rumor be false.

Such tweets put Flo in the game without having to do any actual work beyond reading message boards and taking 10 seconds to compose a message.

Lol is right. Willie is probably lol-ing at all the bunched undies in his effortless wake.

Not directed at you, but I don't find this brand of journalism to be okay nor funny.

And somewhere RUCreedo is saying it was true but all the msg board chatter scared him into changing his mind. ;)

Will, imo, there was enough smoke out there to warrant Willie's tweet. You guys blaming Willie are just looking for a scapegoat or have a past grudge you are trying to dig up.

I'd think Willie will address this on the next FRL and give us his side

Trust me slush doesn't find it funny either, and neither do I.

I think '85 is referring to Twitter "journalism", but it reminds me of something else that has been bugging me a little . . .

I read on one of the boards that the McFadden rumor to RU was triggered by a fake news article poated online. My first thought was "Oh sh**, I hope no one thinks I was the one who wrote that."

I never looked for it to see if it resembled my work, but I can assure you that I try to make my articles too ludricrous to believe, but with enough elements of truth to make it funny.

Anyway, just throwing that out there in case it is relevant to anyone. I didn't write the McFadden thing.

Not true..I have been a FLO Pro member for over 3 years. I tweet at them and tell them when they do a great job and support what they do 100%. I like Willie and all the Flo guys, I just don't agree with this one.

There was NO smoke until that tweet.

Speaking for myself, I respectfully disagree. I hadn't heard of the rumor until Willie made it national. As I understand it, the rumor was on some NJ wrestling facebook page, which I never knew existed. Even some of the posters on the Rutgers Rivals forum were unwilling to say what the rumor was the day of Willie's tweet, as they had no info on its merit.

To my knowledge, no other boards were talking about it prior to the tweet. So, I'm not sure there was really all that much smoke for a guy like me to see (as has been pointed out previously, I am Obviously Far From The Program).

I'm not looking for a scapegoat. I cried foul as soon as I saw the tweet, and my beef had absolutely nothing to do with whether the rumor was true. I just happen to be someone who takes journalism and its responsibilities seriously. Willie can claim all he wants that he's not a journalist, but what he does on his Flo twitter account is a form of journalism. I thought it was shoddy work and expressed my opinion.

Been to San Diego on business twice; fantastic city. Stayed across the bay on Coronado Island one of the times, absolutely beautiful. The only negative I saw was the number of homeless in the downtown area. Seems like one at every corner.

Did you have to wear a wetsuit to get in the ocean? (was the water unpleasantly cold?)

I see Willie more in the role of a commentator than a news journalist....giving his opinions on things, forcasting, speculating as well as giving us legitimate news. I see him much the same way as I saw Bill OReilly when he was on the factor. Bill is indeed a journalist but really didn't play that role on his show.

Some are going to like what Willie does for FLO and some won't. That's just the way it is...it's never going to change. If there's a rumor going around out there, I'm the type that wants to know about it. I want to hear where Willie and CP think a certain recruit will end up. I want to hear who they think will win or lose a match....I want their opinions on things. It's not like they can't be called out on things and they expect us to because they understand when you play the role of a "commentator" you're never gonna be right on everything nor will everyone agree on everything you say.

I personally see nothing wrong with the tweet. There was a rumor flying around in NJ and Willie told us. He even stated it was a rumor and had no idea if it were legit or not. By doing so, who'd he hurt? Cael? Nick? I doubt that very much. I think the only one it hurt may be the Penn State fans who are so entrenched in the sport that they are going to get ulcers worrying about it. Well... us and maybe your typical Rutgers fan, but they already have wrestling induced ulcers from waiting on a winner so no big deal there anyway.

i mean, cmon.

i've broken a gazillion stories (dare I say 'the most in wrestling'?) while rarely, if ever, rumor-mongering (which actually hurts your chances of breaking a story, btw)

this instance - the rumor had been circulating forever, i said nothing of it, and no one (in positions of importance) was saying anything.

it became public (on facebook) and i tweeted it.

get a grip. or hate away. whatever your pleasure.

Willie:

I think the hate stems from a clear anti-Easton bias. It's a damn shame they let that cloud their objectivity. ;)

quite contradictory, right?

that's the point. people cry when they don't like the way i do things, and say 'you're not a journalist'. so. ok. i'm whatever.

So your contradictions are the fault of others? C'mon. Your job does come with some responsibility. Forget the word journalist for a moment. Because you have access to wrestlers, coaches, et al., and because you bring some credibility to the table (your track record is a matter of shared public knowledge--and I know I've given you a hard time in the past, but I appreciate what you bring to Flo), your tweeting without commenting on the veracity of what was until that point an unfounded bombshell rumor naturally allows a reasonable inference to be drawn that you believe the rumor had merit. I know I sat up and took it more seriously than I did before. I imagine it'd have been relatively easy to stamp it out with a few phone calls or emails, but what you do with your credibility is your business.
