been awhile since both teams were battling for the playoffs, this late in the season.

Hoping to hear a lot more of Fly, Eagles, Fly than Hail to the Redskins 2nite. ;)

So far so good. I'd like to see another TD by the Eagles right now

I've got FIOS in the Harrisburg area and I don't see it on the TV schedule. What channel please?

No pass rush at all. This secondary is in the process of getting torched again tonight.

The Eagles offense settled into its usual groove early tonight. They celebrated like they won the Super Bowl after the opening TD and have now settled into 3 and out land.

'Skins need to keep Blitzing Bradford........The Eagles line isn't stopping the blitz, but when rushing 4 he has all day and moving the team!

Go 'Skins! Clinch the playoffs tonight!

I gotta say - by no means do I like ANY of the DC teams, but credit where it is due. THAT is a kick-ass fight song. The tune just sticks in your head.
Unfortunately I'm afraid that's what I'm going to be hearing over and over for the next week.

Kind of humorous the big deal being made of Cousins' brain freeze when one or more Eagles seems to have a brain freeze every other play.

Cousins with the BONEHEAD of the year award on that play. I'm sure that will be the difference in the game now! UGH!!!

Growing up I had a mug that every time you lifted it to take a drink it played the fight song. You end up learning the fight song very quickly. ;).

Eagles have already made their tee times in 3 weeks.
This is the truest post I've read all day. Both these teams are just awful, but the Skins players are at least trying.

I'm so tired of seeing the Eagles offense repeatedly let down Sam Bradford with drops, mistakes and penalties. He's the only guy trying on offense. It's become a bit of a joke to watch.

The Eagles will probably lose tonight...like any of us who watched the last 14 games would have predicted. Chip's assembled a group of small time, mistake prone players. He let go guys who were the heart and soul of this team and a 6-10 season is what's left.

Chip will be back next year based on a flukey victory against New England, but I fear his roster moves have set the team back several years.

The 'Skins offense is actually pretty good now that the OL is playing OK and giving Cousins some time to throw to a pretty talented group of WR and TE(Reed). When Matt Jones is healthy it really helps the ground game as well with his ability out of the backfield. The OL still needs to get a little better, but I am very happy with the offense now. The defense is what needs A LOT of help. The secondary is AWFUL, The LB's aren't real good, but servicable....the DL is pretty good with Pot Roast, Hatcher, Baker, and Kerrigan. Need a good safety and a couple good CB to become a real good team IMO.

The Skins secondary doesn't need to be good with the way Chip's vaunted receivers drop and fumble the football.

That is the only way the 'skins are stopping them, need to blitz and get to Bradford because the DB's can't cover anyone!

Another shot fired in the Eagles' foot. Wow. Can the discipline and concentration of these players get any worse???

Being a 'skins fan I've seen my share of terrible signings. Looks like Snyder may have gotten out of the sign the top overpriced over the hil free agent and we may have some actual football people running thing in Washington. A couple more good players and another good draft and the Skins could be pretty good next year.

....and the Riley Cooper signing isn't far behind.

difference between Murray and Cooper is that Murray was a FA, while Cooper was drafted by the Birds, and then signed to an extension. I thought he was drafted too high (5th round), didn't do enough to warrant being resigned, let alone being given a nice contract. I guess it helped him in the negotiations that his draft contract was for 4 years, and he had the best year of his career in the final year of his draft contract. I believe Howie was the GM when Cooper got his 2nd contract for 5 years, 25 million, with 8 mill guaranteed.

So is it safe to assume that Kelley gets fired, and if so, where does Chip end up next year?

doubtful that he gets fired. he has a 5 year contract, at $6.5 mill per year. he'll have 2 years remaining after this season. that's a lot of money for the Eagles to eat, especially when can make a case that injuries really did impact the team this year. (And his detractors can make a strong case that his personnel decisions had an even bigger impact on why the team has struggled so much this season.)

Wrong. Chip won't be fired this year
The last 2 weeks got Chip fired. You simply can't go into a Primetime home game with the division on the line and get blown out like this.

A good, competitive showing and Chip was fine. This is the continuation of a string of blowout losses for the Birds.

Neither offense nor defense has been decent in that stretch, save for one flukey game in Boston where the probability of that scenario was literally 1 in 1000.

I think he's gone, Tom. He may resign when given the option of less power in the organization, but I think he's gone.

If he's fired that says that both Chip and Laurie (so) have failed. Billionaire s have egos too. I doubt that JL is ready to say he made a mistake at this point

I think you sell Lurie short. He's a bright guy and understands momentum and when drastic changes are required.

Chip will probably have a choice between a lot less power and resigning. The latter would see him give up his remaining contract.

It's possible.

hard to know what move would be best for the Birds. This season certainly doesn't give one a lot of confidence moving forward. The first two seasons under him were very encouraging.

Generally, you can point to things to look forward to in the coming year. For the Birds, I'm not sure what there is to look forward to. The Defense was a problem most of the year. They finally got the safety problems resolved, but the CBs have not been stellar (though Rowe looked good after Carroll's injury), and the CBs haven't been helped by the lack of a consistent pass rush from the 3-4. The LBers were a mess, then Hicks filled in due to an injury and looked good, then he got injured. Not a unit that you expect to be really good next season.

On offense, where to start. Bradford has been good, and when he was out you really noticed his absence, as Sanchez stunk. The OL is a disaster. Peters is starting to show his age. Kelce was good when called to move but never overpowered on run plays. The guards have been a problem all year. Johnson, the RT, is mediocre. Ertz seems like a decent TE for the future. The WRs have been a disappointment all year. The best of them has been Jordan Matthews. The RBs are a mess, between Murray not being suitable for the offense, and the OL rarely creating holes for them. Sproles is a nice change of pace back, but doesn't seem like a workhorse. Matthews was pretty good, though inconsistent.

It's not as though the addition of a few players will make a big difference. This team needs a major overhaul. In that vein, it might be best to do that with a new coach.

Meaty post, Tom! You stated exactly why I think Chip's gone. He's a good egg and I think he realizes his situation is now untenable.

I think the players have given up on his system and no amount of window dressing and focus on "execution" will change that.

The roster was poorly built/maintained and the league DCs totally moved Chip's cheese and he had no answer. Zip, nada, zilch.

Some guys just aren't cut out for the NFL and I think Chip now realizes he's in that category.
