Epperly drops the mic.....hes out at VAtech

As far as the impact Kevin Dressers decision to leave VT when he did had on this 2xAA 4x state champ. Events speak for themselves.

My point was that I do not think this is what this kid envisioned as the end of his career last year when he won seven straight matches to get third at the nationals. The kid seems like a really good kid who would have wanted close out his career with his team in the top five and his feet on a podium.

Wasn't there a rumor about Epperly quitting his sophomore year? Sounds like he's had enough of the grind of competing.

Exactly right. He missed a bunch of matches without any real explanation. There were rumors about him quitting the team. Dresser dismissed those rumors and said he was missing time because of a "family issue." Then after he came back and everything was going OK, Dresser was a little more candid about what was going on. This is from a story in the Roanoke Times right before NCAAs:

BLACKSBURG — Zach Epperly once was a bit lost, but now he’s found.

The Christiansburg High School graduate missed six Virginia Tech wrestling matches in January, even though he was healthy.

The 2015 All-American is one of the nation’s best wrestlers in the 174-pound weight class, yet he was not in the lineup.

“His head wasn’t in the right place,” coach Kevin Dresser said. “We needed to pull him out and get his head right. ...

“When you’re not in the right place mentally, you’re not as disciplined with your weight and all that kind of stuff. He wasn’t ready to go from just an overall training standpoint. He wasn’t ready to compete … physically or mentally.”

Sounds like maybe he just got worn out.

Way he wrestled and looked at St.Louis I believe he had a injury of some kind. He is most likely tired of the grind and just wants to move on with his life..Is a cruel tough sport and can say don't blame the young man..Wish him success in his future and was a tough and good wrestler.

Sounds like I didn't know what I was talking about :( which is apparently good news. Good luck to a good kid and apologies to coach Dresser
