Fargo is coming

Got to love Carson Manville too, it's hard to believe he is so young. He just looks so mature and strong for a sophomore. Athletic, fast, strong, agressive and relentless. Let's hope he viewes PSU favorably even though it seems big bro is boxed out of the lineup with no real daylight in sight. Maybe Mason is happy focusing on Greco, but everytime I watch Carson I come away thinking 'wow'! I try not to put too much stock in Sophomore kids as so much can change, but he is the real deal. In two more years he may/will end up being ranked the #1 p4p and will be on everyone's radar as the #1 recruit. Flo currently has him as #2 in the 2021 class and he only seems to get stronger, the kid is an animal.
Mason's a happy camper, and the "no daylight in sight" thinking is a bit short-sighted. He's a RSFR this season, with a shot at an OlyRS in 2019/20, meaning he could have 3 years of eligibility left after Joseph and Hall depart. Heaven only knows what course the young man will take, continued improvement in folk, and I can see scenarios where he's a starter down the road.

Anyone believe Carson is not on the coach's radar?

Manville and Facundo are going to have themselves a battle for the #1 P4P in the 2021 class by the time they graduate. Before this summer I’d probably have given Manville the edge due to the number of elite wins. However, Facundo medaling at Cadet Worlds and Carson not evens things up a bit in my eyes.

Anyone know enough about Cassioppi to handicap his match with Parris? I've seen Parris wrestle since he was a freshman and he's a beast. I expect Parris to dominate, but I can't be objective and know very little about Cassioppi.

Parris is a manchild forsure. Cass has done well this past year making this a highly anticipated match. One thing I know is both project to do quite well at the next level. Looking forward to that

Kharchla over Wittlake 7-4
Plott over Starocci 6-2

Plott is gonna be a monster when he fills out.

Cass just caused a major bed wetting in the land of corn

Paris might want to rethink this wrestling thing...

#tweeningainteasy

Cassioppi a beast. Crazy that Seth Nevills is the 5th or 6th best Hwt prospect if we're counting Kerkvliet

I was looking forward to Starocci and Wittlake meeting in the final, so much for my prognostications.

So can I predict they will meet for third?:(

If you want a Mind F of a match in terms of freestyle vs. folk check out Christensen vs. Hendricksen 195 championship semis. A quick thriller.

Most likely we will see Parris vs Cassioppi in the Semis, nice! Talk on Hawkreport is whether Parris can keep it close, lol, those guys crack me up, they honestly have no idea how good Parris is. The real question is whether Cass can keep it close with Parris who has been considered the better prospect for at least the last 2 years.
Some real morons on that forum.

Crazy. Never said anything when he was committed, but for whatever reason, wrestlers from Oregon/Washington/Idaho seem like a big risk at the D1 level.
Sad to me to read this but true. Maybe the Lovett kid will make hay in college.

To be fair, Plott was the #1 seed but I get what you are saying. Starocci didn't look so hot. Kept taking poor shots from space and getting himself in trouble. Scrambling wasn't the best either.

Parris losing like he did was obviously a big surprise. Should of known I was in trouble when MSU started talking him up over on hawk report, lol. Still don't think Cassioppi could replace Stoll's points as a true freshman but he has justified some of the hype with this result. Of course it's also possible Parris was even more overrated. :D

Was thinking about the future at 74 post Wreck Hall, do you guys see Mason Manville or Joe Lee growing into that weight by then? Would they be more capable replacement than a young Starocci or another recruit? I’d take Joe Lee or Mason there as kids below them in weight like Nick Lee/Verk and Berge bump up as well as years go by. #firstworldproblem

Not to be a downer, but I have no idea what people are talking about when they say Starocci is a must get. I just don't see it.
Stems from the fact he is arguably the best prospect in the state for 2019. 2019 is probably the thinnest class that PA has produced in a while. Which makes the two 2018 recruits rolling into 2019 (Brooks, Beard) look even better.

Hes never been dynamic offensively. Would be a nice recruit but not if hes trying up a lot of money.

A better recruit than a guy Iowa got recently, but definitely not a must get. More like a nice to get. Verk level.

Ahhhhh...sports! One just never knows. Favorites lose, followed by fans giving up on them a bit. Coaches do too. Then there's the long shots that impress, and their stock takes off. Fair weather, that's what many are.

Imagine being a college coach. Travel the country, look for talent, seeing some of the same kids...but not focused on one match, one tournament. Looking for trends.

Looking for the Aaron Brooks' (and others of like talent) of the world is easier, they stick out. Recruiting them successfully is a bit harder, everyone wants kids like that. It's the kids being talked about above, and many others that Head Coaches fret over with their Assistant Coaches. There's often parity at/near the top, so each schools coaches must be selective. Are they close to home? Do they (and their parents) have interest in a particular school? How are their grades? Do they "fit" (coachable, high character, "offensive-minded" for PSU recruits)? And other questions.

Sometimes kids blossom in a college room that suits them perfectly. Sometimes kids pick a school that doesn't work out. It's life. And it's not just about talent. So many factors.

Being critical of a high schooler isn't in my DNA. Plenty of time for high school losses to be learning experiences, and the right college coaches to tweak a kid's skill sets to reach a new level of results at the next level. Just love this sport, love these kids, and wish them all the best (especially those named Michael, Seth, Gavin, Paul, Joe, Brody, Aaron, Roman, and Jack!!).

Given the state of the program, there are NO must gets. Not Spencer Lee, not Daton Fix, not Gable Steveson ...

174 is the closest thing we have to lineup uncertainty in 2021, and Starocci is the best 174 prospect in the Class of 2019, which means the timing works for him to succeed Hall immediately after shirting. But if he's not the right fit or the price is too high or he prefers elsewhere or he's not ready after shirting, we have options. In Cael we trust.

Cassioppi dominant... very obvious he has a lot of Freestyle experience as well. Used it wisely.

Gable. Snacks. Cassioppi. Parris. What a time to be a HWT.

Yep, and I have taken some grief on this board for stating the ever so more obvious, Cassi is a stud and with that stocky build and not stop motor he is going to give a lot of guys a lot of trouble. If Stoll's knee keeps him out this year the drop off for the Hawkeyes will not be too great.

What I like about the kid is he enters everything and takes on all comers, and it shows in how rapidly he is improving. With all the new hardware in his trophy case, there is a case to be made for him as the #2 in this class behind Gable. I think the Hawkeyes found a diamond in the rough.

Cassi has been going through folk and free tourneys like a meat shreader all year. I only wish big snacks was as motivated. Other than Ca. states he has had little open tourney time lately, and simply destroying a bunch of Ca heavies is not the best benchmark. I would have loved to see big snacks to have wrestled Gable or Cassi this year just to guage where each stands.

Edit to above: offhand IDK Kharchla's year or projected college weight.

IIRC Snacks lost to Shultz this year by a point. I believe Cass lost to Schultz 2 out of 3 somewhere.

It's Gable...then a dropoff

Schultz, Cass, Snacks, Parris..I think they all pickems in folk. I don't recall ever seeing Nick in freestyle, maybe they just don't like it.

Cassioppi lost in Schultz's favorite style-- Greco. Not sure if Cohlton will wrestle D1 or go Greco full time, but id expect Cassioppi to beat him in Free or Folk. He's how I think the tiers will play out.

Steveson
Kerkvliet

Cassioppi
Parris

Nevills
Schultz

Then you have Hutchmacher coming later if he picks wrestling over football (already offers from Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Missouri).

I think the fact that Nevills wasn't even a low-tier D1 football recruit (at his size) leaves some questions about his athleticism. Then again, Coon and many others werent recruited either.

Still feel great about Seth. Even AJ was one of the best Freshman heavies last year. Those dudes come into D1 well prepared

Yeah it was in Greco and IIRC Cass was a VERY late 4 away from beating Schultz in the deciding match. That's about as impressive in a loss as you can be, given Schultz being an age level world champ in Greco.

You must not be from Illinois. We all knew what a stud he was for a year or two now. Northwestern knew it and unfortunately for them he backed out of their agreement and chose the Hawks.

How many top 10-20 recruits has Northwestern lost over the last few years? I feel like it is at least 4.

They got Jessen :)... and Davison.

(but it has been a few... Cassioppi, Beard, Karoly off the top of my head)
