FC: hairball and the michigan football team are in France this week.

I don’t believe that we can say UM got “special treatment” on the Patterson transfer yet. The NCAA changed its transfer rule on April 18, after which UM, Ole Miss, Patterson and the NCAA agreed UM and Patterson would rescind their application on the grounds Miss/Freeze mislead him and instead apply under the new rule with Ole Miss rescinding its objection. So we’ll have to see how that new transfer rule is applied going forward - this was the first case to use it. I would suspect the next few cases to attempt to use it will be the other former Ole Miss football players trying to transfer to other schools. If they are denied immediately eligibility, it would certainly appear UM/Patterson got special treatment. Their cases haven’t been ruled on yet.
So, unprecedented by NCAA standards, like Rudock by B1G standards. Make those bailouts count.

Is your contention that the first to use a new, 10-day old rule is receiving “special treatment”? Would you disagree that whether it is “special treatment” would depend on how the rule is applied to others in similar circumstances - which we will learn in the coming weeks? The NCAA said months ago it was going to make this rule change. Thankfully for Ole Miss it allows to save face with the half dozen waivers they were inevitably going to lose under the old rule anyway.

I don’t know..the reversal of offensive fortunes/outcomes over the past two PSU-UM games would lead me to believe each is capable of putting up points and yards on the other, no?
What happened to your free board? Dear God. It's dead for the most part but you have complete losers like that dbag pharmdablue or whatever and some other moron going on about how Barkley sucks. No wonder you guys evacuated to the fort.

Haven’t visited the free board in years. Take from that what you will.

They're just being leadersy and besty. We can't compete.

And we might be better off.

As long as one team is missing their top 5 LB’s and #6 gets booted in the first quarter for a BS targeting call...as long as that happens, both can put up points.

As much as I am annoyed by Harbaugh, and he may be motivated by the attention, I think exposing his players to things beyond football is fantastic for their growth as contributing members of this country.
Sure, but when does he start exposing them to football? Not much of that has happened apparently.

My mind is made up... helping the downtrodden would be better for them than seeing the world as a tourist, but Harbaugh can’t sell that as well to recruits. Seeing the world is still better than not seeing the world for these kids. How is this difference so hard to understand?

Never mind. I'm convinced you are unwilling or unable to see the contradiction between your two posts.

how many academic scholarships could they have paid for with what this is costing?

It's a privately funded trip and an unbelievable opportunity for young student athletes to see the world, learn and share a cultural experience. If that offends anyone, then you lead a pretty pathetic existence.

Yeah, that’s why he’s doing it...give me a break.

It's most certainly an improper benefit because the booster is paying for it solely due to the athletic abilities of the players.

I guess I'm curious.... Even if it is privately funded, how is it not an improper benefit if it's limited to the football team?

He also said it costs less than $500k total, for everything. I don't know how many people are going on this trip, but it's almost certainly more than 100 people. ~$5k per person for flights, hotels, food, and travel in France seems very, very conservative (and almost not possible).

I'm guessing that the team is not chowing down at Restaurant Le Coupe-Chou:rolleyes:

Exactly. All Michigan athletes should get to partake in the fabulous French culture or none should. Seems like the donor would pay for a trip to the moon to get football a few more wins.

Sure.

Hey, one amusing thing to watch is Harbaugh screwing up your recruiting time after time. How do you have two instate 5 star offensive tackles in the 2019 class, which Michigan needs desperately, and both of them hate Harbaugh's guts? Well done there.

I find this interesting. I know companies do these "reward trips" that I've been on. They always come with a daily "business meeting" that Obliviax was always so dumb he attended. After going to several of them, almost by himself, someone pulled him aside and told him that these were necessary to make the trip a "business meeting" and, therefore, not taxable. If you are just awarded a trip, with no business association, it is considered income and the value has to show up on your taxes.

Hopefully they learn from the French and give a half-hearted effort for the first 5 minutes of every future game followed by total surrender for the rest of the game.

I wonder how many of their players will contract VD as a result of the trip to France???

An off-campus trip overseas outside of the academic year that does not include competition is allowable under NCAA rules - with the notable exception being for basketball which is allowed a foreign trip including competition once every four years.

Your redefinition of improper benefits would imply that the donors who have endowed athletic scholarships are guilty of providing improper benefits “because the booster is paying for it solely due to the athletic abilities of the players.”

I'd be more worried about the French women contracting VD...see Jabril Peppers.;)

Interesting. I was just asking, didn't know.
Not picking on Michigan, but seems to fly in the face of the whole "athletes can't receive benefits not available to other students" thing.
So if I can send players on a vacation to France, why can't I buy them houses, or cars? Why is one high value perk ok but not others?
I know it's the NCAA, it doesn't have to make sense.

Endowed scholarships aren't for specific players. This trip was for specific players.

Endowed scholarships are for attending college. This trip was for a boondoggle.

Remember, Harbaugh already had one rule instituted because of the trips. I expect another one in the near future.
