Final X

I'm old enough to remember when people lost their minds when clearly injured wrestlers forfeited at a conference tournament. I can't imagine how these same "fans" will react to a forfeit in a match that decided a National team spot. Twitter must be exploding with relentless calls of ducking and how this will kill the sport......
Cenzo ain’t ducking to protect his seed, yo.

Bummed about Cenzo, but I guess it makes sense if he doesn't care as much and wants to be around as a coach?

I'm old enough to remember when a certain fanbase said the referees got it right when an ACC 197 didn't get a pin called against their guy because they were "right there and had the best look" and then lost their mind a year later when another ACC 197 didn't get nearfall points against their rivals guy and it's because it's a conspiracy to help a certain school.

Turns out, everyone has their biases to their own teams ;)

At MSG now and they’re not letting spectators in for the true third matches. It’s a real cluster as they don’t have ticket takers yet and security has no clue what is going on. ☹️
They didn't at Stillwater either, though there were far fewer matches there than in NYC

Dude. This isn't even an "apples to oranges" comparison.

You're trying to compare apples to a hippopotamus.

Common sense ain't that common in Iowa?

Winning a True 3rd match and making the National Team is great for a college wrestler or someone training full-time. All the travel and training are helpful (along with the money). It is not great for someone with a real job with lots of responsibilities. Nico and Cenzo obviously fit that category. No surprise for either of them to turn down the opportunity

Are you young enough to remember your teacher telling you that no question/thought is stupid?

Well she was wrong.

86kg / 3rd

Hall up at break 1-0 on shot clock point.
Hall w/ push out off of a shot attempt, 2-0.

Sweet duck by Markie on T. Hidlay, converts for 4-0, gut for 6-0.

TD Hidlay on a shot at the edge that really looked like a push out point for 1, not a 2 TD.

Markie wins 6-4 .. grounded himself at the edge at the end, gave the easy go-behind to THidlay & MHall looks like he hurt his ribs a little bit.

...jes hope Hall didn't suffer any rib cartilage damage from that last scrum...🤷🏽‍♂️

As soon as I was going to bitch about 2 reviews in this head-scratching Greco ... Kamal Bey just lifted & slammed his opponent onto his back for WBF

Amit Elor - 18yr old freestyle & BJJ prodigy - Up 6-0 at break, all on upper body attacks or go-behinds from her 2-on-1.

Elor up 8-0.

Another TD, 10-0 tech for Elor. What a beast at 18 yr old.

Amit Elor and Skylar Grote looks like a Greco match, both looking for offense off collar ties and 2 on 1s. Elor up 6-0 at the break, mostly off counters to ill-advised Grote half shots. Tech 10-0.

  • Yianni mostly dictating the match against Henderson but Henderson got two exposures off of one Yianni shot and leads 4-4 at break.
  • Wow, Henderson shoots, great D by Yianni but even better job by Henderson to convert for a 6-4 lead.
  • Yianni quick shot and a gut but Henderson steps over on the second gut attempt. 8-8 Henderson.
  • Step out, Henderson up 9-8.
  • Henderson kills a Yianni shot attempt, :51 remaining.
  • Step out, 9-9 Henderson up. Bad call, it should've been Henderson's point.
  • Yianni gets in, lifts, and takes Henderson out of bounds, Yianni up 10-9.
  • Henderson challenges, loses, 11-9.

Henderson is looking pretty good this match. Much better than I would have ever guessed. Staying calm on that takedown on the edge.

Don't understand much about it, but Greco can be pretty exciting.

Definitely not something to challenge. Risk/reward not worth it tbh.
There was a stepout 1 given to Yanni about 15 seconds earlier that I thought should have been challanged as Yanni would have needed a 2 point move at end.....

Yeah I know the exchange but if they had lost the challenge, it gives Yianni a point and it goes from being tied with Henderson having criteria to being down 1. Hindsight 20-20 with how the match ended but they trusted Henderson to just hold on for 25 seconds.

Amit Elor is going to be a clear gold medal candidate. She's so much better than anyone else. AND SHES 18!

She's crazy good, and she was mostly just countering in the Grote match. She can go out and get points as well as anyone.

Didn't know Jason was repping Sunkist. Found out on the Flo info graphic - they are such a great wrestling resource!!!!

Nolf and Dake!
  • Dake looking to push Nolf out, going underhook, but Nolf holds his ground.
  • Nolf warned for passivity.
  • Nolf snapping down, half shot attempt.
  • Nolf going on the clock w 1:18 left in first.
  • Neither guy committing, ref blows whistle. Nolf w an injury time out, maybe fingers?
  • Break. 1-0 Dake.
  • Nolf looking more active, Dake still just pushing
  • Beautiful ankle pick, Nolf lifts, gets behind, converts. 2-1 Nolf.
  • Nolf driven out, plus a caution (!) 3-2 Dake.
  • Dake with another step out point, up 4-2, 1:31 remaining.
  • Nolf with an ankle again, but Dake drops down and neutralizes.
  • Nolf needing a TD for the win, Dake backing up. Dake warned.
  • Dake wins 4-2, on two step outs, a caution, and a shot clock point. Dake never shot, just held center.

That caution and 1 was total bs. I know they are calling it way more frequently but Jason did not attempt to get out of bounds at all. Seemed exact opposite actually. He was fighting to stay in bounds in my eyes. Nolf should get some confidence from this match though. Able to get in cleanly on 2 shots and finished once which he hadn’t been able to do in previous matchups. I actually thought he was going to score on the second leg attack as well but Dake did normal Dake defensive things and got a stalemate. I think Nolf needs to take a few more chances. Nothing crazy but he’s going to need at least 4-5 points to win and only taking 2 committed shots usually won’t get you there against someone as good as Dake
